Expert Review: Journey East Hampton
Journey East Hampton, a Michelin Key Selected property, offers a sophisticated and cozy retreat in the Hamptons, praised by guests for its intimate atmosphere, attentive service, and stylish design.
1. Overall Rating & Sentiment
Journey East Hampton consistently receives high praise from guests, earning an impressive overall rating of 9.2. Many describe it as a "hidden gem" and a "perfect getaway spot" from New York. The general sentiment is overwhelmingly positive, highlighting comfort, exceptional staff, and an excellent location.
2. Key Highlights
Guests frequently laud the hotel's beautifully decorated and cozy ambiance, along with its amazing facilities. Key highlights include the incredibly comfortable bedding, a welcoming firepit with s'mores in the evenings, and the availability of bikes for rent, encouraging guests to explore the nearby beach. The saltwater pool, lush garden, and outdoor play area provide ample opportunities for relaxation and recreation. The hotel also offers thoughtful amenities such as complimentary breakfast, coffee, and bottled water throughout the day, as well as round-the-clock food options. Additional perks include a lounge with a fireplace, outdoor yoga, bocce, free parking, and complimentary in-room WiFi.
3. Room Quality
The rooms at Journey East Hampton are described as clean, spacious, and charming, with a tasteful design featuring modern furnishings, plush bedding, and stylish decor. They reflect a classic Hamptons aesthetic, incorporating navy-and-neutrals color schemes and organic materials. Each room is equipped with air conditioning, a private bathroom, free WiFi, a refrigerator, a flat-screen TV, a wardrobe, and quality toiletries. While the smallest room is ample for a king bed, guests traveling with families are advised to consider upgrading to the larger suites or cottages for extra space and comfort. Some rooms are even available with two bedrooms.
4. Dining Experience
Journey East Hampton offers a delightful complimentary continental breakfast, which typically includes fresh pastries, granola, seasonal fresh fruit, La Colombe coffee, and assorted teas. Guests have particularly enjoyed the muffins offered during breakfast. The hotel also stands out for its "round-the-clock food options" and continuous provision of complimentary coffee, tea, and bottled water in the lobby. While there isn't a full-service restaurant on-site, a coffee shop/cafe is available.
5. Service & Staff
The service and staff at Journey East Hampton are consistently highlighted as exceptional. Guests frequently praise the team for being incredibly helpful, welcoming, kind, gentle, smiling, calm, and accommodating. Many reviewers note that the staff goes "an extra mile" to ensure a comfortable and special stay. The property is highly rated for its excellent service.
6. Location & Accessibility
Ideally situated in East Hampton, the hotel is perfectly located between the villages of East Hampton and Amagansett. This prime position offers easy access to the Hamptons' premier shopping scene, high-end boutiques, and diverse culinary delights, ranging from farm-to-table bistros to upscale seafood restaurants. It's also conveniently close to beautiful beaches, including Indian Wells Beach, which is just 1.1 to 1.2 miles away. While a car is recommended for exploring the wider area, the hotel provides free on-site private parking. For those using public transport, the East Hampton train station is a short five-minute taxi ride away, and the Hampton Jitney offers bus service to and from New York City.
7. Value & Pricing
While some guests have noted the pricing to be "definitely pricey though for a motel style hotel", Journey East Hampton generally offers good value for a Hamptons property. With an average price of around $546 per room, it presents a remarkable value compared to the city's average room price of $594. The hotel holds an 8.0 rating for value for money. It's worth noting that prices can start from approximately $184.5 for a one-night stay, excluding taxes and fees. A resort fee, typically 10% of the room rate, is applied and covers amenities such as beach towels, housekeeping, in-room bottled water, in-room safe, and pool access.
8. Common Complaints
Recurring criticisms are relatively few but include suggestions for more variety in breakfast options, specifically more choices of muffins, croissants, and bagels. Some guests have commented on the pricing being high for what they perceived as a "motel style hotel". Additionally, the property does not have elevators, which could be a consideration for some guests. For families, some rooms might feel "tiny," and an upgrade to the cottages is recommended for more space.

The hotel staff was very friendly and responsive. The standard king rooms are small and the walls are thin, but still cozy space. We did have one hiccup with the room but the staff quickly sorted it out and relocated us. Overall it’s not a bad stay, beds were comfortable and after a late show at Guild Hall it was a welcome retreat. Off season prices seem high for what it was, but not a bad s...

We stayed over MLK weekend and had an amazing experience. The staff, especially Keanu, were incredibly kind and welcoming. The property was clean, charming, and well maintained, and the sauna was a wonderful bonus. We would definitely stay again!

This is a motel that has been modernized. They offer some amenities to make up for the fact that you're staying at a motel. They've tried hard and done almost the best they can. In the winter it is challenging to take advantage of what they offer (pool, outdoor fire pit - not operating when raining, bicycles). It's still a motel. Friendly staff. The white noise/clock is useful as the noise from th...

My husband and I stayed at Journey East Hamptons for 3 nights at the end of a 2 week road trip from Boston to The Hamptons! As soon as we arrived we were made to feel very welcome. We had a wonderful relaxing stay and all the staff we met, especially Keanu and Cindy were so helpful and friendly. If we didn’t live so far away (we are from the UK!) we would definitely frequent the hotel a lot!! Th...

The room in this hotel is like 5 star hotel. Molton Brown bathroom amenities, Frette towels, Sferra throw on the bed. Very clean and modern. Large bathroom. Really very nice place and very well located if visiting East Hampton.

The room itself was honestly great — modern, clean, and clearly remodeled with attention to detail and decor. The grounds are well kept with a pleasant pool and small garden area for relaxation. The grab-and-go breakfast option, however, was underwhelming and really not worth mentioning as an amenity. Some other amenities, like water, coffee and soda supply, were to be chased most of the times. A...
