What this site is
An independent reference that compiles, contextualizes, and provides editorial perspective on the 8,378+ hotels across 140 countries that have received a Michelin Key — a hotel rating program operated by the Michelin Guide. We are readers and travelers, not Michelin. We have no commercial relationship with Michelin, with any of the hotels listed here, with their brands, or with any booking platform.
Why this site exists
The Michelin Guide's Key designation reflects the perspective of anonymous professional inspectors evaluating architectural quality, service excellence, and overall character. That perspective is rigorous and valuable. It is also a single perspective. Real travelers encounter friction that an inspector's stay often doesn't surface:
- Language accessibility for non-English speakers
- Payment, deposit, and refund friction
- Booking and front-desk handling of edge cases
- Maintenance and consistency over time, not just on a single visit
- How the property handles complaints and what the response looks like
For each property, we surface Michelin's own inspector recognition alongside aggregated public reviews from Google and other sources, so a reader can see both the expert view and the everyday-traveler view in one place. Each entry also links directly to the property's official Michelin Guide page so you can read Michelin's own write-up in full.
Editorial standards
- Non-commercial. No advertising, no affiliate links, no sponsored placements, no commissions. The site does not earn revenue from listings, clicks, or bookings.
- No paid placement. The order in which properties appear is determined by user-selected filters and sorting. Hotels cannot pay to be added, featured, or repositioned.
- Independent of Michelin. We do not coordinate with Michelin, do not receive its data feed under any agreement, and do not represent Michelin in any capacity. Where this reference and the official Michelin Guide diverge, the Michelin Guide is the authoritative source.
- Editorial perspective is labeled. Where we offer commentary that goes beyond compiling public information, it is identified as such.
Understanding the Key distinction
The Michelin Key is awarded by the Michelin Guide to recognize accommodations across three tiers. The official descriptions are published on the Michelin Guide; the summaries below are paraphrased for quick reference:
- Three Keys
Extraordinary experiences with exceptional character, artistry, and service.
- Two Keys
Exceptional lodging with outstanding comfort, design, and personality.
- One Key
A very special stay with notable quality, warmth, and distinction.
Data sources
Recognition data — which hotels have received a Key, and at which tier — comes from the official Michelin Guide. Traveler review signal is aggregated from Google. Property metadata (location, brand affiliations) is compiled from public sources. Where any of this is unclear or out of date, the Michelin Guide is the authoritative reference.
