The overall consensus points to a highly satisfying stay, with many guests expressing a strong desire to return.

2. Key Highlights

Guests consistently love several aspects of the Henry Norman Hotel:

  • Design & Ambiance: The hotel is celebrated for its modern, retro-inspired design, set within a converted 19th-century textile warehouse. The decor blends mid-century modern with colorful, contemporary elements, exposed brick, and high ceilings, creating a unique and stylish atmosphere. Festive Christmas decorations have also been noted to enhance the homey and stylish feel.
  • Spacious Rooms: A standout feature is the generously sized, loft-style rooms that often feel more like apartments, a rarity in New York City.
  • Exceptional Service: The staff's friendliness, helpfulness, and welcoming nature are frequently highlighted as a major positive.
  • Location: Situated in a safe and quiet Greenpoint neighborhood, it offers easy access to local shops, dining, and public transport.

3. Room Quality

The rooms at Henry Norman Hotel are consistently described as spacious, impeccably clean, and comfortable. They offer a loft-style living experience with hardwood floors, exposed brick walls, and high ceilings. The decor is a thoughtful mix of mid-century modern and contemporary, featuring attractive dressers, nightstands, and high-back armchairs.

Amenities include 42-inch flat-screen TVs, iPod docks, minibars, coffeemakers, and electric kettles. Complimentary bottled water, coffee, tea, and free Wi-Fi are provided. Many rooms, particularly upgraded suites, feature full kitchens with microwaves, stoves, ovens, toasters, dishwashers, and separate dining and seating areas. Some even boast furnished terraces with city views. Beds are noted for their comfort, often adorned with crimson throw pillows and bed runners. Bathrooms are also described as a good size, with quality amenities and excellent showers.

4. Dining Experience

The hotel offers a complimentary continental breakfast, which receives mixed reviews. While some guests find it "very good" with "lots of choices" and "ample", others have noted it as "not impressive" or "poor," wishing for more variety beyond pastries and bagels, such as cheese, hams, and more fruit options. Specific criticisms mention "burritos and jimmy dean, seriously?" There is currently no on-site restaurant and bar, but these are anticipated to arrive in the future. In the meantime, the rooms feature a well-stocked minibar, and the surrounding neighborhood offers a plethora of dining options.

The hotel is also a short car ride from LaGuardia and JFK International Airports. The neighborhood itself boasts a vibrant atmosphere with flourishing film stages and production offices, and is close to Msgr. McGolrick Park.

7. Value & Pricing

The Henry Norman Hotel is generally considered a great boutique hotel offering solid value, particularly given the spaciousness of its rooms for New York City. August is typically the cheapest month to stay, while June is the most expensive. While some guests found the separately priced breakfast to be expensive for what was offered, the overall experience, especially considering the room quality and service, is often seen as worth the cost.

8. Common Complaints

  • Breakfast Quality: As mentioned, the continental breakfast, while included for some, is a common point of contention, with guests desiring more variety and higher quality options.
  • Noise: Some reviews mention noise issues, including footsteps from above and street traffic, though the neighborhood is generally considered quiet.
  • Fitness Facilities Availability: A significant complaint from some guests has been the unavailability of the fitness room and sauna, especially when these amenities were a key reason for booking. Some guests felt they should have been informed prior to check-in. It is worth noting that current information indicates the hotel does have a fitness center and sauna available.
  • Location Accessibility (Minor): While generally good, some guests note that the nearest subway can be a 10-20 minute walk, which might be a consideration for those prioritizing immediate subway access.

Very chill hotel with great atmosphere. We were there in a very cold period (-6C on average), and I think the rooms are not so well isolated, because it took a while to get the room warm. Overall very nice experience. 13 minutes walk to the metro station, very easy and feels very safe.

Checked in for a short weekend and was pleasantly surprised. The front desk was friendly and efficient, helping with local tips and a quick luggage hold. My room was clean, well-lit, and pleasantly compact with a comfy bed and decent shower. The building has a low-key, relaxed vibe-quiet hallways and casual common spaces. Rates were very reasonable for the area, excellent value for a tidy, hassle-...

Spacious rooms, pleasant staff. We had huge room with high ceiling, large bathroom, very clean. Subpar breakfast. You can skip option for included breakfast with your reservation, there are more nice spots around the area. And most important drawback, place is pricey. 400$ for a one night stay in Brooklyn, that is totally overpriced.

The Rooms are really big for New York Hotels and equipped with Coffee Machine and Teas. We even could do our laundry in the basement. Since we we're there when it was quite hot, we really appreciated the water Machine with Lemon near the reception. The staff was Always helpful and polite.

Location is pretty industrial, but was perfect for our needs. Rooms are pretty cool, unique layout, eclectic artwork and nicely appointed. Some downsides though, first the beds are too firm and a queen bed, even though we reserved a suite. The breakfast is 20 dollars per person and has standard pastries like you'd get at work function. The coffee is pretty weak. But more importantly, we asked for ...

It's been a while since I've visited the hotel, but the world class and generous assistance I've received recently after my travel plans have gone awry not once but twice deserves recognition. Ownership/management here obviously empower their staff to do whatever they can to work with customers to find mutually beneficial solutions. I can't wait until my next stay and I would recommend the Henry N...
