The hotel boasts high guest review scores, including 9.3 for location, 9.7 for cleanliness and comfort, and 9.5 for staff on Booking.com, reflecting strong guest satisfaction.

2. Key Highlights

Guests particularly love the hotel's sleek, contemporary design, which incorporates local Kyoto aesthetics and craftspeople's products in the rooms and communal areas. A major highlight is the rooftop bar, offering panoramic city views, fire pits, and blankets for a romantic and relaxing atmosphere. Other cherished amenities include a dedicated meditation and yoga room for well-being programs, a well-equipped fitness center, and convenient on-site laundry facilities. The hotel also provides bike rentals, encouraging exploration of the surrounding area.

3. Room Quality

Rooms at Nohga Hotel Kiyomizu Kyoto are consistently described as comfortable, modern, stylish, and spacious, particularly for a Japanese hotel. They feature minimalist décor and a clean ambiance. Each room includes essential amenities such as air conditioning, soundproof walls, a flat-screen TV with streaming services, a refrigerator, and a tea/coffee maker. Private bathrooms are well-fitted with a bath, shower, bidet, hairdryer, and slippers. Guests appreciate high-quality touches like Simmons mattresses, ATMOSPHÈRE JAPON pillows and room wear, Imabari towels, OSAJI bath amenities, and gentle rain showers. Some rooms also come equipped with Bluetooth speakers.

4. Dining Experience

The hotel's on-site restaurant, CICON by NOHGA HOTEL, receives excellent reviews for its breakfast, lunch, and dinner offerings. The restaurant specializes in Italian cuisine, utilizing local Japanese ingredients cooked in a Josper Oven. Breakfast is highly-rated (9.2 on Booking.com) and includes a buffet of freshly baked bread from CICON BAKERY, along with a choice of six main dishes such as egg dishes, risotto, and a vegan plate. It is ideally situated within walking distance of popular attractions such as Kiyomizu-dera Temple, Sanjusangen-do Temple, and the Gion district. For public transport, it's a convenient 7-minute walk from Keihan Railway Kiyomizu-Gojo Station (Exit 4). From JR Kyoto Station, the hotel is approximately a 10-minute taxi ride or a 20-minute journey by bus (15-minute ride, 5-minute walk).

7. Value & Pricing

Nohga Hotel Kiyomizu Kyoto is generally considered to offer good value for money, especially given the quality of the facilities and the spaciousness of the rooms for a Japanese hotel. While one source indicates the cheapest room price around USD 132.30, another guest's experience suggested a price of roughly £150 a night (without breakfast) might be considered overpriced, with a more realistic value at £80 a night.

8. Common Complaints

While generally positive, some minor criticisms have been noted. Due to the hotel's popularity, certain common areas like the lobby can become bustling. One guest experienced limited availability and long wait times (around 2 hours) for the coin-operated laundry machines, with only three machines available. Occasional internet cut-outs and the absence of a single, consistent Wi-Fi network throughout the entire hotel were also mentioned. A minor point for some guests was the lack of a dedicated desk in the room.

An excellent stay in Kyoto. We stayed in the executive King Room which had a view of Yasaka shrine…Big room with lovely bathroom, and huge comfortable bed. Comfortable walk to Yasaka shire and pagoda, a bus stop on the corner will take you everywhere else, a quieter spot just far enough away from the busy areas to feel like a retreat from the chaos. Beautiful food on site at the Rooftop, bakery an...

This hotel is phenomenal. So clean, so stylish, so luxurious for how affordable it is. They have everything you could possibly think of in the rooms. The staff is extremely nice and helpful. The beds are comfy and the shower is BIG (for Japan lol). I am shocked by how good this hotel turned out to be as we didn’t have any expectations coming here. Would come back any day, 10/10 experience!

My experience at this hotel was phenomenal. The rooms are beautiful, the service superb and the location is great as well. It is very close or accessible to everywhere including the city center, Kiyomizu-dera, Nishiri market, Ninenzaka, and Sannenzaka streets. It is also within walking distance to Gion, and Pontocho alley. Two blocks from there I would like to recommend the Sakura Bar, an iza...

Highly recommend this hotel. It’s beautifully designed and perfectly located within walking distance of the Gion district and Kiyomizu-Dera Temple. The on-site bakery and breakfast restaurant are great ways to start the morning, and the rooftop bar is the perfect place to end the night with delicious drinks and views facing Kiyomizu-Dera. One thing to note is the laundry dryers. It took almost an...

This was my first trip to Kyoto, and after a lot of research, I chose Nohga Hotel, and I was very satisfied with my stay. The bed was extremely spacious, somewhere between a double and a king size, which I really liked, but the pillows were disappointing as they were too soft and sank easily, which was a bit unfortunate. The water pressure in the shower was excellent, and having a water purifier ...
