2. Key Highlights
Guests consistently love the blend of modern amenities with a nod to traditional Japanese design. The hotel's interior design is a significant draw, often described as beautiful and stunning. A standout feature is the inviting communal lounge area, often referred to as a "botanical lab" or "guest lounge," which offers free hot and cold drinks, including excellent green tea and herbal waters, creating a welcoming and relaxing atmosphere. The friendly and helpful staff are also frequently mentioned as a key highlight.
3. Room Quality
Rakuro Kyoto offers comfortable, air-conditioned rooms with private bathrooms, balconies, and free WiFi. The rooms are described as spacious, cozy, and beautifully designed, combining natural materials and colors with a contemporary lens, offering both Western, hybrid, and tatami-style spaces. Each room is well-equipped with amenities such as a bath, bidet, hairdryer, refrigerator, free toiletries, shower, slippers, carpeted floors, TV, and an electric kettle. Guests particularly appreciate the room size, cleanliness, and the quality of the bath products. Some rooms even feature an onsen bathtub. While generally comfortable, some guests noted that the pillows were "quite different" from what they were used to, a common observation in Japanese hotels.
4. Dining Experience
The hotel features an on-site restaurant serving European cuisine, and guests can also relax on the sun terrace. Breakfast receives positive feedback, with guests describing it as "delicious" and "great." However, one guest noted that the booking system for breakfast could be "a bit of a hassle."

Guests appreciate its proximity to public transport options, including bus stops and metro stations, which are only a couple of minutes away by foot, making it easy to visit and explore Kyoto's attractions. 8. Common Complaints
While overall satisfaction is very high, a few minor issues have been noted. One guest mentioned that the breakfast booking system could be "a bit of a hassle." Another recurring issue concerned the limited number of washing machines, with one guest experiencing a three-hour wait for laundry. Additionally, some guests found the pillows to be "quite different," though this is a subjective experience and a common observation in Japan. There were no drinking water bottles provided in rooms, although a refillable water station is available. The latest regular check-in time is 11 pm, and guests arriving later need to arrange with customer service.

I am really sad that I still have to stay another three nights here. Honestly, I was expecting much more, especially considering the price we paid. Based on the positive reviews, we thought the hotel would be amazing, but I am starting to suspect they might even be misleading. Several issues: The room only looks good in the photos. In reality, it is small, the bathroom is strange, and the bed is v...

Great location next to the Imperial Palace and a 3 minute walk to the subway. Clean rooms, easily accessible laundry room and very helpful staff. The breakfast was delicious but unfortunately only one option with three variants. Good enough to eat for four days but in the fifth I headed over to 7 eleven for a change.

The other critical reviews make good points which future guests might want to bear in mind, as they also materialised during my stay: -Avoid the hotel breakfast unless you want a small Western-style sandwich. The pre-booking is cumbersome and unnecessary particularly when there’s only three options to choose from. The coffee was the saving grace -Staff were superficially polite but completely un...

Not highly recommended. The rooms are okay and in fairly good condition and the staff is good. The breakfast system, however, is cumbersome, requiring *additional* reservations with a QR code by a certain hour the day before, which many jet lagged travelers are not going to remember. Leave it to Japan to unnecessarily complicate something as simple as a basic hotel breakfast. Additionally, the bre...
