  • Room Views: Some guests mention that not all rooms offer particularly inspiring views, especially those not facing the river or a garden.

  • Concierge Inconsistencies: An older review mentioned some isolated issues with the concierge team struggling to secure reservations at highly sought-after local restaurants. However, more recent reviews praise the concierge's efficiency.
  • Breakfast Menu Repetition: A very minor point, but some guests who stayed for extended periods noted that the Japanese breakfast menu, being a set meal, did not change daily.
  • Room Smell: One older review mentioned a persistent smell in a specific room, though this appears to be an isolated incident.

Fantastic find. Great location on the river. Very quiet and 'authentic' feeling for Japan. The breakfasts were amazing. The French toast may be the best ever and the Japanese breakfast was very well done. Staff is very helpful and accommodating. The rooms are very nice, not particularly big but comfortable. I just wished they sold the pajamas they gave out, my wife would have probably pa...

Amazing stay! We stayed for 1 night to visit Kyoto for the first time on the back end of our Tokyo trip. This location is very accessible from Shinkansen and centrally located. The stay was phenomenal- everyone was friendly and they really made us feel welcome. I used bonvoy points and I was extremely pleased with this stay! Room was perfect, great views, friendly staff.

The finest Ritz-Carlton stay I’ve had. Well-deserved three Michelin keys. This property excels in anticipatory service—solving problems before you realize they exist, which is the defining characteristic of 5-star hotels (but many so-called "5 stars" actually fail to do so). The Space: Stunning architecture that blends international luxury with traditional Ryokan intimacy. The transition from the...
