Expert Review: Moxy The Hague

Moxy The Hague: A Modern, Vibrant Stay in the Heart of the City (Michelin Key Selected)

Moxy The Hague stands out as a "Michelin Key Selected" property, recognized for its exceptional hospitality and character. It consistently garners high praise for its energetic atmosphere, prime location, and dedicated staff, making it a popular choice for travelers seeking a stylish and comfortable stay in the Dutch capital.

1. Overall Rating & Sentiment

The overall sentiment for Moxy The Hague is overwhelmingly positive, with guests frequently rating it "Very Good" or "Exceptional." Review aggregators show strong scores, such as an 8.5 on Booking.com (from over 7,450 reviews) and 9.4 for cleanliness on Hotels.com. The hotel is lauded for its "trendy feel" and "fun vibe," appealing to both younger travelers and those "young at heart."

2. Key Highlights

Guests consistently rave about several key aspects:

  • Service & Staff: The "super friendly," "helpful," and "attentive" staff, often referred to as "hotel ambassadors," receive frequent commendation.
  • Location: Its central position, just a short walk from The Hague Central Station, is a major draw.
  • Design & Vibe: The hotel's "modern look and feel," "quirky but trendy" design, and "uncluttered spacious bedroom" aesthetic are widely appreciated.
  • Comfort: The "very comfortable beds" and clean rooms are recurring positive points.
  • Amenities: Free WiFi, a lively 360-degree lounge bar with board games, a fitness center, and a welcome cocktail upon arrival are popular features.

3. Room Quality

Moxy The Hague offers "Scandi style, uncluttered spacious bedrooms" with a minimalist yet functional design. Rooms typically feature "luxurious 'Moxy Sleeper beds'," air conditioning, private bathrooms with spacious walk-in showers, and 55-inch flat-screen televisions with Chromecast and Netflix capabilities. Guests appreciate the cleanliness and comfort. A unique feature mentioned is the cantilevered bed with motion sensor guide lights. However, some guests note the minimalistic approach means a lack of traditional amenities like a kettle, mini-fridge, or safe in the room. Storage is provided by a trendy metal grid with hangers instead of a full wardrobe, which some guests find limited for longer stays or for two people.

4. Dining Experience

The hotel offers a "highly-rated breakfast" buffet (guest review score: 8.4) in its lounge bar. Priced around €17.50 to €18.50, the breakfast includes a varied selection of freshly squeezed juice, yogurts, fruit, cheese, cold cuts, salads, pastries, bread, and hot options like scrambled eggs, bacon, and sausages. Guests can also make their own coffee, tea, and waffles. Beyond breakfast, the restaurant serves lunch and dinner with small plates and daily specials available, with food generally described as nicely plated and good quality. The bar is a central hub, offering hand-crafted drinks.

5. Service & Staff

The "magical and young at heart ambassadors" at Moxy The Hague are consistently highlighted for their exceptional friendliness, helpfulness, and attentiveness. The welcome drink offered upon check-in is a pleasant touch frequently mentioned by guests. While the service is largely praised, there have been isolated instances of forgotten drink orders or slow service at the bar during busy periods, and some initial confusion regarding specific promotions.

6. Location & Accessibility

Moxy The Hague boasts an "unbeatable" and "perfect location" in the city center. It's conveniently situated just a 5 to 10-minute walk from The Hague Central Station, making it highly accessible via public transport. The hotel is within easy reach of major attractions such as Plein Square, Theater aan het Spui, and the main shopping streets. Other notable attractions like Madurodam and Paleis Huis Ten Bosch are approximately 2.1 miles away, and Scheveningen Beach is around 3.5 miles, both easily reachable. Public parking is available directly underneath the hotel for around €20-€30 per day, and bike rentals are offered, enhancing exploration of the walkable city.

7. Value & Pricing

Many guests consider Moxy The Hague to offer "great value for money," especially given its central location and the quality of its modern rooms and services. Prices for a 1-night stay for two adults can start from approximately $70.38, though these are subject to change based on dates. Additional costs include a city tax of €6.20 per person, per night, and a pet fee of €25 per accommodation, per night. While some find the breakfast a little expensive, the overall value is generally seen as positive.

8. Common Complaints

While overwhelmingly positive, some recurring criticisms include:

  • Lack of In-Room Amenities: The absence of a kettle, mini-fridge, and safe in rooms is a common point of contention for some guests.
  • Limited Storage: The "trendy metal grid" for hanging clothes, instead of a traditional wardrobe, can be insufficient for two people or longer stays.
  • Bed Sheets: A few guests have reported issues with bed sheets not staying fitted to the mattress.
  • Electronic Locks: There have been isolated complaints about electronic door locks being unreliable.
  • Bar Service: During peak times, the bar can experience delays or forgotten orders.
  • Noisy Air Conditioning: Some guests found the air conditioning to be noisy or difficult to fully turn off.

(The photos were taken when we were leaving) I had a very pleasant stay overall. The rooms were a good size, the bed was comfortable, and the cleanliness was very good. There were a couple of minor issues. Some of the shower jets were spraying sideways, and the heating system was not working properly. When we arrived, the room was very cold even though the thermostat showed 22°C. We increased it ...

To the Management, I am writing this to formally lodge a complaint regarding the behavior of your reception staff. Today, Saturday, January 17th, at 12:57 PM, they called my room twice, which was a direct disturbance to my peace and privacy. I booked my room for three nights through Booking.com, and according to the confirmation I received, my breakfast was already paid for. However, this mornin...

The location is very near the train station, so close to shops and restaurants. Nice if you're coming by public transportation. Frustrating if you're coming with your car. While there is a parking garage nearby, that information didn't seem to be communicated ahead of time and the staff member was very annoyed at check-in when I asked for help downloading the app and securing my spot. The rest of...

The hotel is very convenient if you are looking for something near The Hague Centraal train station. It is lined with many food options outside the hotel. Groceries, fastfood, asian food. Hotel room is just right for a business stay- clean and bright. And the employees are very polite and nice. Took a photo of the entrance. Difficult to miss. It's like 5-7 mins walk from the Train station. The ...

Room was spacious but that was because there was nothing in it. No proper chair, no desk or place to set anything, no fridge, no tea or coffee making facility, no wardrobe, no drawer or cupboard of any type. There was a shelf pretending to be a desk and a pouffe pretending to be a seat. Ibis, Holiday Inn Express are much better. I would not stay again.
