Expert Review: Ingleside Estate

Ingleside Estate, a Michelin Key Selected property in the Palm Springs Area, offers guests a serene and elegant adults-only retreat steeped in Old Hollywood glamour. This historic Spanish Revival institution is celebrated for its intimate ambiance, attentive service, and prime location, though some minor areas could benefit from updates.

1. Overall Rating & Sentiment

Ingleside Estate generally garners an "Excellent" to "Fabulous" rating from guests, with high scores for location (9.6), staff (9.3), and cleanliness (9.1). The overall sentiment is overwhelmingly positive, with many guests expressing a desire to return and praising the peaceful, private experience. It is described as an "absolutely gorgeous inside and out" and "the most peaceful experience".

2. Key Highlights

Guests consistently laud the hotel's historic charm and elegant Spanish Revival design, which has been thoughtfully updated while preserving its classic atmosphere. The quiet, adults-only environment provides a truly peaceful escape. The beautiful grounds and the relaxing pool area with fantastic mountain views are frequently highlighted. The presence of Melvyn's restaurant on-site, along with the convenience of poolside cocktail service, are also significant draws. Furthermore, the close connection and access to amenities at its sister property, the Avalon Hotel & Bungalows Palm Springs, including additional pools and the Chi Chi restaurant, enhance the guest experience. The Michelin Key distinction itself recognizes hotels that offer "incredible service, architecture, interior design, and overall character," denoting "a very special stay".

3. Room Quality

The rooms and suites at Ingleside Estate are described as elegant, comfortable, and spacious, each offering a refreshingly unique design that incorporates historical details alongside modern conveniences. Many rooms feature desirable amenities such as private patios, courtyards, or fireplaces. Guests appreciate the "cozy rooms" and luxurious touches like custom linens and terrycloth robes, which contribute to a decadent feel. While many find the rooms spotless and comfortable, a few past reviews have mentioned concerns about cleanliness and the comfort of the beds.

4. Dining Experience

The on-site Melvyn's restaurant is a cornerstone of the Ingleside Estate experience, celebrated for its "swanky tribute to its Sinatra-era heyday" and excellent food. Guests often enjoy the ability to order cocktails directly at the pool. Complimentary craft coffee and tea are provided in the mornings, which is a welcomed touch. The option to dine at Chi Chi, the Avalon's upscale Californian restaurant, also provides additional culinary variety.

5. Service & Staff

The service at Ingleside Estate receives consistent praise, with staff members frequently described as friendly, helpful, accommodating, and attentive. Guests have highlighted "amazing service and hospitality" and appreciated the staff's eagerness to assist. This dedication to hospitality contributes significantly to the tranquil and enjoyable atmosphere of the estate.

6. Location & Accessibility

Ingleside Estate boasts an excellent location, rated 9.6 by guests, and is highly valued for being walkable to downtown Palm Springs. Despite its central proximity to attractions, the property manages to maintain a sense of being a "private oasis". Guests also benefit from easy and free parking on-site. The address is 200 W Ramon Rd, Palm Springs Area, USA.

7. Value & Pricing

While the Michelin Key selection implies a premium experience, typical room prices at Ingleside Estate have ranged from $347 to $628 recently. Some guests have indicated that they found the stay "too expensive", others believe it is "worth the cost" given the quality of the experience. The Michelin Key itself signifies a hotel that delivers "a very special stay" due to its exceptional service, architecture, design, and character.

8. Common Complaints

Despite the overwhelmingly positive feedback, some recurring criticisms include occasional concerns about cleanliness in certain areas and the comfort of the beds. As an older, historic property, a few guests have noted that while charming, it may "not expect prestige conditions" and could benefit from a "refresh" in some areas. One review also mentioned issues with cigarette smoke seeping into their room.

I’d like to preface this by saying we just checked in, so this review is based solely on our first impressions. The hotel itself is very charming, and our room is clean and well-presented. Unfortunately, our arrival experience was disappointing. The hotel was hosting an event at the restaurant, and all onsite guest parking was taken. We were not informed of this in advance. When we asked about pa...

I will prempt the canned message that they seem to respond to every review with by saying that I very much so am taking into consideration the historical nature of the property and have stayed in dozens of locations that bill themselves at a similar quality level while residing in buildings that are older than the state/country that Ingleside resides in. Next I want to underscore that the staff h...

We loved this peaceful getaway! It’s a great cozy set of bungalows and we enjoyed every minute of our two day stay. We especially loved the hot tub and the fire pit. The staff was really friendly and welcoming and offered terrific local tips. They are short staffed in the mornings so be prepared for a wait for breakfast.

We booked the Melvyn’s Suite at Ingleside Estate, swayed by the glowing website description: a suite “serenely tucked” away, with a plush courtyard patio shaded by a scalloped umbrella, elegant furnishings, and the promise of absolute tranquillity—“nothing to disturb you, only rugged mountains and graceful palms as background.” At nearly $1,000 per night, we expected an oasis of comfort and privac...

We stayed here because it is part of the Chase “edit” hotels program. As part of the benefits we were upgraded to a deluxe room. The room was small and clean for the most part, the bed comfortable. The food and beverage service here, was the worst I’ve experienced in a while. 3pm at the pool and there were only about 10 other people. The blonde employee would come and leave, cleaning the area, sa...

This place is incredibly charming especially if you enjoy a bit of old glamorous history. Adults only, dogs welcome, cute patios. Loved Melvyns and the pool. Just a great, quiet stay in walking distance to restaurants and shops.
