Hôtel National des Arts et Métiers: A Stylish and Welcoming Parisian Escape

Hôtel National des Arts et Métiers, a Michelin Key Selected property in Paris, consistently earns high praise for its exceptional blend of contemporary design, prime location, and outstanding service. Guests frequently describe their stays as enjoyable, fulfilling, and exceeding expectations, contributing to an impressive overall rating of 8.6 to 9.1 across various platforms.

1. Overall Rating & Sentiment

The general consensus for Hôtel National des Arts et Métiers is overwhelmingly positive, with guests frequently rating it as "excellent" and "wonderful". The hotel is often lauded as a "beautiful" and "vibe boutique hotel" that offers a luxurious yet comfortable experience in the heart of Paris.

2. Key Highlights

Guests consistently love the hotel's terrific location, exceptional service, and sophisticated design. The beautiful building and its chic ambiance are frequently mentioned. Amenities such as the rooftop bar (though closed in winter), a well-equipped gym, and welcoming common spaces also stand out.

3. Room Quality

The 66 rooms are described as clean, comfortable, and well-appointed, though some entry-level rooms (starting at 215 sq ft) are noted as compact. Designer Raphael Navot's eclectic taste is evident, creating a "polished industrial" look with "minimal elegance". The design incorporates textured concrete walls, dusky colors, and artworks. Rooms feature classic herringbone parquet floors, dark velvet easy chairs, black marble nightstands, padded fabric headboards, and modern wooden chairs. Many rooms boast big windows with either street or courtyard views, making them feel roomier, and some include small balconies offering views of the city or the church opposite. Standard amenities include air conditioning, private bathrooms (some with walk-in showers and terrazzo), free toiletries, flat-screen TVs, soundproofing, Nespresso machines, wonderfully stocked minibars, and free Wi-Fi.

4. Dining Experience

The hotel offers a good dining experience with its on-site establishments. Ristorante National is highlighted as a stylish trattoria-style Italian restaurant, while Herbarium is a chic cocktail bar that has become a local favorite. There is also a rooftop bar, which provides panoramic city views (closed during winter). The breakfast is generally considered good. For those dining at the hotel, the food and cocktails have been described as "fantastic".

5. Service & Staff

The service and staff at Hôtel National des Arts et Métiers receive exceptional praise. Guests consistently describe the staff as "exceptionally helpful and friendly", "super friendly, warm, kind, and accommodating". Reviewers appreciate their attentiveness, welcoming demeanor, and willingness to provide recommendations for exploring the city.

6. Location & Accessibility

The hotel boasts an excellent and prime location in the 3rd arrondissement (Le Marais), near the famous engineering college and a small plaza across from an old church. It's described as an interesting, relatively quiet neighborhood, yet it's very central and convenient for exploring Paris. Guests love that many attractions, restaurants, bars, and shops are within walking distance, and it's well-connected to public transportation, including several metro stations (Réaumur - Sébastopol station is within 350 feet). The area is considered safe and incredibly walkable.

7. Value & Pricing

While offering a luxurious experience, the hotel is also noted for providing "exceptional value for money". The average price per room is around $447, with some sources mentioning an average of 381.2 EUR in the past month. Given its high quality and prime location, guests generally feel it's worth the cost.

8. Common Complaints

While most feedback is positive, some recurring criticisms include:

  • Shower issues: Some guests have reported that the shower was difficult to operate or that the water did not get as hot as desired.
  • Room organization: A few guests found limited space for organizing clothes for two people.
  • Noise: Rooms facing the courtyard occasionally experienced loud music and lights from the courtyard until late hours, without prior warning from the hotel.
  • Inconsistent cleaning: One review mentioned that a requested room cleaning was not as thorough as expected.
  • Staff assistance variability: Although overall staff feedback is excellent, one guest reported an unhelpful front desk staff member who was reluctant to book an external restaurant and tried to push the hotel's own restaurant instead.
  • Minor room maintenance: Issues like a broken toilet paper holder and lights not working were reported by a guest, requiring an electrician.

We stayed at the hotel for four nights and had a wonderful experience. Upon arrival, we were warmly welcomed, and the staff kindly made an effort to accommodate our request for a room facing the church. The room was beautiful, cozy, and spotless. Throughout our stay, the service was consistently excellent and friendly. The location is fantastic, right on the edge of Le Marais, with easy access to ...

I visited the hotel in late October, staying until early November, for a week with my pet. I booked “The Room with Balcony” from the hotel’s website. I asked for a tranquil, high-floor room, away from elevators and increased human traffic. Instead, I got a room facing the street on the second floor, next to the elevators. The breakfast was OK, nothing amazing for the price of the hotel. The gym wa...

For Paris large room but poor service. Room is extremely noisy and cold (heating isn’t really working). Offered with Nespresso machine - yes the machine is there but no capsule offered. Neither instant coffee or tea. Shower is best medium warm. Checkin takes 30 min (with no wait) with unfriendly receptionist. Apple Pay not accepted for guarantee for a fully prepaid stay. Marketing clearly doesn’t ...

This does not feel like a 4 star hotel. The rooms aren’t super comfortable, the finishing touches are bad ( not great shower for example), ugly lighting. I was a bit disappointed. Great location though and decent enough for a 2 star hotel. But I would not recommend it

The reception at the front desk was wonderful, very pleasant, aswell as the entire hotel team. We had a large, elegantly furnished room with a view of the square; the bed was very comfortable, and the breakfast was excellent. The location is perfect, right next to the metro and just a few minutes’ walk from the most beautiful districts of Paris.

Great fun hotel but very noisy on Friday and Saturday night with loud music downstairs until 2am - maybe a room not overlooking courtyard would avoid this? Amazing concierge, brilliant location with all marais has to offer on your doorstep. X2 nights of noise aside, I’d recommend everything about this hotel.
