Expert Review: Graduate by Hilton Minneapolis
Graduate by Hilton Minneapolis, a Michelin Key Selected property, is highly regarded for its distinctive collegiate charm, excellent service, and prime location adjacent to the University of Minnesota campus. It consistently receives high praise from guests, making it a top choice for travelers visiting Minneapolis.
1. Overall Rating & Sentiment
The Graduate by Hilton Minneapolis generally receives exceptional customer ratings, with an overall rating of 8.7. The sentiment is overwhelmingly positive, with guests frequently describing it as a "fantastic choice" and praising its "glowing reviews" for value, facilities, cleanliness, location, and comfort.
2. Key Highlights
Guests particularly appreciate the hotel's unique design and atmosphere, which blends "Gopher traditions and local legends" with creative interiors and college nostalgia, including Nordic nods and walleye wallpaper. The boutique style, with a chic schoolhouse theme, is well-suited to its university environment. Key highlights also include the friendly and helpful staff, outstanding service, top-notch facilities, and convenient access to transportation and campus life. The lively lobby and on-site bar are also frequently enjoyed by guests. Amenities such as complimentary Wi-Fi, a 24-hour health club, and free bicycle rentals add to the guest experience. The hotel is also pet-friendly.
3. Room Quality
Rooms at the Graduate by Hilton Minneapolis are described as clean, comfortable, and upscale, featuring unique designs that add to the hotel's charm. Each room is well-appointed with modern amenities, including a 42-inch flat-screen LCD TV with premium cable channels, a refrigerator, and a coffee maker. Guests can expect luxury linens and bedding, along with spacious bathrooms that often include rainfall showerheads and complimentary toiletries. Air conditioning and free in-room Wi-Fi are standard.
4. Dining Experience
The hotel features an on-site gastropub called The Beacon Public House. This warm and inviting restaurant serves regional American cuisine and contemporary cocktails, offering all-day dining for breakfast, coffee, lunch, dinner, and nightcaps, with seasonal outdoor seating available. Cooked-to-order breakfasts are available for a surcharge. Some guests have noted the convenience of a coffee shop/cafe on-site.
5. Service & Staff
The service and staff at Graduate by Hilton Minneapolis consistently receive high marks, described as friendly, helpful, and providing outstanding service throughout the stay. Notably, many of the staff are University of Minnesota students, who have been praised for being "on the ball, full of energy, great and very responsive service," with one reviewer even stating they "rivaled a Four Seasons." The staff's hospitality contributes significantly to the positive guest experience.
6. Location & Accessibility
The hotel boasts an excellent location directly on the University of Minnesota campus, making it ideal for visiting the university or attending events. It is a short walk from major sports venues like Huntington Bank Stadium (0.3 miles) and TCF Bank Stadium, and close to Williams Arena. Accessibility is further enhanced by its proximity to public transportation, with the East Bank Station just a 2-minute walk away and Stadium Village Station a 9-minute walk. While less than 2 miles from downtown, providing easy access, some note it might be a bit distant if downtown attractions are the primary focus. Nearby attractions also include the Weisman Art Museum and it's connected to Top Golf.
7. Value & Pricing
Graduate by Hilton Minneapolis is considered to offer "affordable luxury" and "exceptional accommodation at a competitive rate." With an average room price around $205, it's slightly higher than the Minneapolis average of $184, but guests feel the higher quality and service make it "well worth it." Prices can vary, with some rates found as low as $51, and average weeknight/weekend prices in the range of $129-$139 as of January 2026. The hotel also offers special rates for students and alumni.
8. Common Complaints
While overwhelmingly positive, some recurring criticisms include the cost of parking, which is available on-site for a fee of $30 per day for self-parking. Guests have also occasionally reported difficulties controlling the room temperature, finding rooms too hot even with the heat off. Although many reviews praise cleanliness, a few guests have mentioned issues in this area. Some longer-term guests have expressed a concern that the quality might decline following the Hilton ownership, though current reviews remain strong. Additionally, while the lobby is often lively, some facilities might show minor signs of age compared to brand-new hotels, which can sometimes translate to more affordable rates.

I loved this themed based hotel. The check in was smooth and easy with very friendly college students. The entry area offers a great study area with lighting, receptacles for your laptops or tablets. A nice sitting area with a fireplace for those cold days and/or nights. There're a bar, dining area, Starbucks, Dunkin, Top Golf and shuffleboard. Our room had character, the bed was comfortable and o...

I stayed here after my husband's lung transplant. Did not plan this as I only live 19 miles away. I asked the nurse if a place there was nearby that works with U of M hospital. Given a list of names and my son made reservations. Wow I was so pleased when checked in that it was so close. Kyle was so wonderful greeting ing me and letting me if anything I needed just phone down. He changed my room to...

Way overpriced for what you get. Paid extra for the rooms to get breakfast but all we received was a $10 credit to the room off the breakfast tab which ran about $20 per person. When I checked in I was told we would get $18 credited per adult up to two adults per room. The front desk is staffed mostly with what appears to be college students and their knowledge is very limited when asked questions...

Just blocks away from the Universe hospital (the hospital has a shuttle) the service was outstanding! The restaurant food was delicious. The bed was extremely comfortable. The only issue I had was my room had a weird smell and the bottom of the tub was a little slippery I almost fell in the shower the first time then I wiped it down. Again the service was outstanding!!

We’ve stayed at the Graduate Hotel—University of Minnesota several times, and it’s usually our top choice when visiting campus. The atmosphere, fun activities, and location make it a no-brainer, especially for a college tour. However, during our most recent stay, we were surprised to have housekeeping knock on our door at 7 a.m. Despite being exhausted travelers, we decided to get up after being ...
