Guests frequently describe their stays as a dream-like experience, highlighting the hotel's commitment to exceptional service and timeless appeal.

1. Overall Rating & Sentiment

The general consensus for the Four Seasons Hotel at The Surf Club is exceptionally high. Reviewers consistently praise it as a beautiful, stylish, and updated property that exudes a sense of peace and timelessness, standing out among Miami's luxury offerings. It is considered by many to not only meet but exceed the high expectations associated with a top-tier luxury hotel. Its recent recognition with two Michelin Keys further solidifies its reputation for offering singular and authentic travel experiences.

2. Key Highlights

Guests are particularly captivated by several aspects of the hotel:

  • Service: The service is frequently described as exceptional, with staff members being polite, personable, attentive, and demonstrating a sincere commitment to guest satisfaction.
  • Location: Situated oceanfront in Surfside, just north of Miami Beach, the hotel offers a serene atmosphere with pristine beaches, away from the typical Miami crowds. Its proximity to the upscale Bal Harbour Shops and the convenience of a complimentary house car service within a 15-minute radius are also highly appreciated.
  • Design: The hotel's design is impeccable, beautifully updated with thoughtful nods to its historic "bygone era" while incorporating modern sleekness. The original 1930s club building is preserved, with modern structures built around it, creating a unique ambiance. The Champagne Bar, in particular, is noted for its stunning aesthetic.
  • Amenities: The property boasts two heated swimming pools (one for adults and one for families) with abundant lounging areas including cabanas and poolside spaces. The beach service is highly attentive, and the fitness center is well-equipped. A world-class spa offers a range of treatments, and a kids' club is available for younger guests.

3. Room Quality

The rooms and suites at the Four Seasons Hotel at The Surf Club are consistently described as ultra-luxurious, featuring a modern, subtle design palette of soft sand tones and off-white fluted paneling. They offer remarkable comfort, with many guests praising the incredibly comfortable Four Seasons king mattresses. Rooms are spacious, with some Bay King Studios exceeding 700 square feet and featuring large wrap-around balconies offering both ocean and bay views. Tall ceilings contribute to a more expansive feel.

Practicality is also a highlight, with ample storage space, including up to three closets, and thoughtful details like numerous power outlets and bedside USB chargers. In-room tablets control temperature and electric drapes, adding a high-tech touch. Bathrooms are large and well-appointed, featuring double vanities, spacious marble bathtubs, and cavernous showers with rainfall and handheld fixtures and good water pressure. Exclusive toiletries made specifically for the hotel are also a notable feature.

4. Dining Experience

The dining at the Four Seasons Hotel at The Surf Club receives high praise, with every meal often cited as excellent.

  • Lido Restaurant: This fine-dining establishment offers a taste of the Italian Riviera with all-day dining and is particularly noted for its very good breakfast served on the terrace. Led by Executive Chef Marco Calenzo, Lido's menu artfully blends Italian traditions with contemporary finesse, offering both a Percorso Tasting Menu and an à la carte selection featuring handcrafted pastas, classic entrées, and crudos.
  • The Surf Club Restaurant: Helmed by the renowned Chef Thomas Keller, this Michelin-starred restaurant is a "dinner must" for its exquisite Continental cuisine, reinterpreted for contemporary tastes. Signature dishes include True Ribeye, Beef Wellington, and Lobster Thermidor.
  • Winston's: A solid option for casual daytime fare.
  • The Champagne Bar: Celebrated as stunning and a recipient of Virtuoso's "Best Bar" award in 2019, it's an ideal spot for an aperitivo.

5. Service & Staff

The hotel's service and staff are consistently lauded as a standout feature. Guests commend the team for being exceptional, personable, friendly, and genuinely attentive, embodying a philosophy of hospitality. From the outstanding concierge to the beach staff and housekeeping, the commitment to creating unique and personalized guest experiences is evident.

6. Location & Accessibility

The Four Seasons Hotel at The Surf Club is ideally located in Surfside, Florida, an upscale and tranquil community on a barrier island north of Miami Beach. This oceanfront setting provides a more relaxed and exclusive beach experience compared to the bustling South Beach. It is approximately a 30-minute drive from Miami Airport and offers easy access to the nightlife of Miami Beach (about 30 minutes away) and the luxury shopping at Bal Harbour (a 5-minute drive). The hotel's complimentary house car service within a 15-minute radius further enhances local accessibility.

7. Value & Pricing

As one of North America's most decorated and exclusive hotels, the Four Seasons Hotel at The Surf Club is positioned at the higher end of the luxury market, with nightly rates typically starting at $1,100+. Despite the premium pricing, guests generally feel it offers excellent value for a truly luxurious, relaxing, and high-quality experience, making it a worthwhile investment for special occasions or those seeking a top-tier escape.

8. Common Complaints

While overwhelmingly positive, some minor criticisms have been noted:

  • An older review mentioned occasional understaffing at one of the dining venues, leading to slower service, and perceived high prices for some menu items like steak.
  • Minor room specific issues included the absence of a toilet brush in European-designed loos and a low sink tap in one bathroom.
  • One guest found the provided shampoo and conditioner less appealing than the shower gel.
  • The angle of the bathtub in one room was found to be uncomfortable.
  • Some guests have noted that while the beach is pleasant, it might not be as "wow-worthy" as those in the Caribbean, suggesting the pools and the hotel's amenities are the primary draw.
  • A trivial complaint noted that the complimentary fruit upon arrival was "edible, but strangely not tasty."

Had a great experience at the Four Seasons Hotel Miami beach area. Kevin, Dewa, and Pandu were extremely friendly, welcoming, and attentive. They created such a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere and were always happy to help with anything we needed. Their hospitality really stood out and made time at the beach area even better.

Everything was wonderful. Warm welcome by Victor at valet & Emma at check in, who also shared with us the interesting history of the building. Enjoyed the complimentary glass of champagne while we listened. The pool was beautiful and there are many options for where to sit. I've been here a couple of times as a guest of the spa and restaurant. This might be the top property I've been to in the world. (And I feel like the Marriott Puerto Vallarta is gonna be jealous of me leaving this review now. 🥺) The staff here really understand what it means to make you feel taken care of. I didn't always have that, so it's something I really cherish and appreciate. I look forwa...

Beautiful hotel, incredibly overpriced. The food was just ok considering it’s a four seasons. Everything we ate was bland and just not the amazing food we’ve come to expect at every other four seasons property.

It's a splurge and obviously for a specific clientele but this is hands down the most elegant and beautiful property in the state. From the aesthetic to the quality of finishing its impeccable. Both restaurants are fantastic with Thomas Kellers being a top 3 in Miami.

Amazing hotel! If you’re looking for a relaxed, classy, and truly luxurious getaway, this is the place to be. The food is excellent, and the spa is outstanding. The only area with a bit of room for improvement is the beach - otherwise, everything is perfect.
