Expert Review: The Sarojin Thailand

The Sarojin Thailand, a distinguished Two-Key property in the Michelin Guide, consistently receives high praise for its tranquil ambiance, exceptional service, and stunning natural surroundings. Guests frequently describe it as a "special place" and a "peaceful sanctuary" that offers an "exceptional stay."

1. Overall Rating & Sentiment

The overall sentiment for The Sarojin is overwhelmingly positive, with guests consistently rating it as an outstanding luxury experience. Its Two-Key Michelin status signifies an "exceptional stay," acknowledging its significant impact on guest experience across architecture, interior design, service quality, personality, value, and unique setting. Many guests are repeat visitors, some having stayed multiple times, highlighting a strong emotional connection to the resort.

2. Key Highlights

Guests particularly adore The Sarojin for its highly personalized service and attention to detail, creating a feeling of being "part of the Sarojin family." The resort's stunning natural setting on a secluded 11-kilometer white sand beach, framed by lush tropical gardens and lily ponds, is a major draw. Unique dining experiences, such as the all-day à la carte breakfast with sparkling wine, and private dining options at a jungle waterfall or on a secluded beach, are frequently highlighted. The beautiful and uncrowded infinity pool with its floating pavilions also stands out as a sanctuary for relaxation. The resort's commitment to tranquility is further enhanced by its adults-only policy, welcoming children aged 10 and above.

3. Room Quality

The 56 residences, including Garden, Pool, and Jacuzzi Pool Suites, as well as Two-Bedroom Residences, are thoughtfully designed in an understated yet stylish Asian contemporary aesthetic. Rooms are spacious, often exceeding 95 sqm, and boast high-quality materials like hardwood flooring and Thai silk bathrobes. A notable feature is the open-plan bathrooms with large, often oval-shaped terrazzo bathtubs set on pebbled floors, providing a relaxing garden feel. Many residences include outdoor pavilions with daybeds, and some offer private plunge pools or heated outdoor whirlpools for an added touch of luxury. Guests appreciate the thoughtful touches, such as personalized water bottles and bath bombs.

4. Dining Experience

The dining experience at The Sarojin is consistently lauded as outstanding and of Michelin standard. The resort features two main restaurants: Ficus, offering contemporary Mediterranean cuisine amidst lily ponds, and Edge, specializing in exquisite Thai dishes by the beachfront. A standout is the all-day à la carte breakfast with sparkling wine, served until 6:00 PM, allowing guests to enjoy their first meal at their leisure. Beyond the restaurants, The Sarojin excels in private dining, arranging memorable experiences at secluded spots like a jungle waterfall or on a private sand island. A wide selection of fine wines is available at The Wine Bar & Cellar.

5. Service & Staff

The service at The Sarojin is frequently described as "exceptional," "impeccable," and "next-level." Staff members are praised for their genuine warmth, attentiveness, and ability to anticipate guest needs, often remembering names and preferences from the first morning. Many staff have been with the resort since its inception, contributing to a strong team spirit and a welcoming atmosphere that makes guests feel like family. The dedication of the team, especially in rebuilding the hotel after the 2004 tsunami, is a testament to their commitment to hospitality.

6. Location & Accessibility

The Sarojin is located in Khao Lak, Phang Nga, approximately an hour's drive north of Phuket International Airport, with the resort often providing seamless private transfers. Its prime location on a secluded 11-kilometer white sand beach offers direct access to the Andaman Sea. The resort serves as an ideal base for exploring the region's natural wonders, being within easy reach of five stunning national parks, the renowned Similan and Surin Islands (popular for diving and snorkeling, typically November-April), and Phang Nga Bay with its magnificent limestone caves and lagoons. The resort's "Imagineering team" can arrange bespoke excursions, from elephant trekking and jungle safaris to private boat charters on The Lady Sarojin yacht.

7. Value & Pricing

The Sarojin is recognized by Michelin for delivering superior hospitality and value. While a luxury property, it often offers excellent value, particularly during the low season, with rates for standard rooms sometimes dipping below $200-$256 per night. This allows access to experiences often reserved for more expensive properties, making it an attractive option for luxury travelers. Rates typically include the celebrated all-day à la carte breakfast with sparkling wine.

8. Common Complaints

Recurring complaints about The Sarojin are notably rare, with guests often remarking that they have to "dig deep" to find any negatives. One older review mentioned some grouting looking "a bit tired" and, during March, one guest encountered jellyfish in the sea, though it did not detract from their enjoyment. Generally, the meticulous maintenance and dedication of the staff mean that any minor issues are quickly addressed, contributing to the resort's near-faultless reputation.

Our stay at The Sarojin is hard to put into words. From the moment you walk in, it takes your breath away. It helps knowing the story of The Sarojin, and the lengths the owners Kate & Andrew went to, to truly appreciate their astonishing achievement, when on several occasions , the odds were stacked against them. The story is in a book available to read in reception, it’s well worth the half hr ...

We wanted a place away from the fray of Phuket that felt peaceful and the Sarojin delivered. You can walk or run for miles on the beach. I would go for runs in the morning and see 8 other people the whole time. There is a larger resort on the beach next to the Sarojin, but it doesn’t feel crowded and the tranquility of the Sarojin’s environment makes it feel tucked away. The pool is outstanding. T...

The worst 5-star hotel ever existed In the world. Extremely disappointing. We discovered large amounts of animal droppings on the bathroom floor on the decorative stones, which is completely unacceptable from a hygiene perspective. We also received very poor customer service. In addition, there were two lizards inside the room. I had to deal with one myself during the night, which was unpleasant a...

After travelling around Cambodia and Vietnam we chose a week of R&R at this amazing resort. It was more fantastic than we had anticipated. We had the most exceptional bbqs on the beach and have to say the seafood bbq was the best meal I have ever had which is saying a lot. It’s like an oasis with so much wildlife roaming free. The all day breakfast was such a brilliant option. We went for beach wa...
