2. Key Highlights

Guests consistently rave about several aspects of Pimalai:

  • Service & Hospitality: The staff are frequently described as hospitable, friendly, attentive, and extremely hard-working, going above and beyond to ensure guest satisfaction.
  • Location & Scenery: Nestled on 100 acres of tropical jungle cascading down to 900 meters of pristine beach on Kantiang Bay, the resort offers breathtaking panoramic views of the Andaman Sea. Its secluded nature provides a peaceful and private atmosphere.
  • Design & Ambiance: The resort features understated luxury with contemporary Thai-style villas and rooms integrated harmoniously with the natural environment. The design preserved every tree during construction, highlighting a commitment to environmental conservation.
  • Amenities & Facilities: Pimalai boasts two stunning infinity pools (one beachfront, one hillside with spectacular views), a first-class spa, a well-equipped fitness center, and a variety of activities including marine excursions, cooking classes, and watersports. The private speedboat transfer from Krabi is also a highlight, offering scenic views.

3. Room Quality

Pimalai offers a wide selection of accommodations, including deluxe rooms, suites, and private pool villas, all designed for comfort and elegance. Rooms feature refined Thai décor, rich Thai fabrics, polished teak wood floors, and rattan curtains. They are spacious, air-conditioned, and include modern amenities like Nespresso machines, Bluetooth speakers, private balconies, and luxury linens. Many villas, especially the Hillside Ocean View Private Pool Villas, provide stunning infinity pools and uninterrupted ocean views from bathtubs. Welcome amenities often include fresh fruit plates and coconut water.

4. Dining Experience

The resort offers exceptional dining across its multiple restaurants, ranging from casual beachside eateries to fine dining.

  • Breakfast: The breakfast buffet, often served at Spice and Rice or Seven Seas, is highly praised for its magnificence and extensive choices, including Western and Asian options, fresh fruits, pastries, and an excellent egg station with favorites like Eggs Benedict. Free-flow sparkling wine at Seven Seas breakfast with a view has also been noted.
  • Restaurants:
    • Rak Talay: A beachfront bar and restaurant offering sumptuous Thai-style seafood, popular for casual lunches and themed dinner nights like "All You Can Eat Surf & Turf" and BBQ.
    • Seven Seas: Located on the hillside near the upper infinity pool, it offers fine dining with Michelin-chef-conceived menus and spectacular views, especially at sunset. It often serves Western cuisine.
    • Spice and Rice: Specializes in authentic Thai cuisine in a traditional setting.
  • Other Options: Room service and "Home Dining" (staff bringing BBQ to your room/villa) are also available.

5. Service & Staff

Pimalai's service is consistently highlighted as "superlative" and a key differentiator. Guests commend the staff for being genuinely hospitable, friendly, attentive, and efficient, ensuring prompt service, such as buggies arriving quickly for transport around the expansive resort. Staff members "go above and beyond" to ensure guest satisfaction and resolve any issues. Small touches, like unlimited ice water at the pools and beach, and mosquito repellent machines in rooms, further enhance the guest experience.

6. Location & Accessibility

Pimalai Resort & Spa is situated on the tranquil southern tip of Koh Lanta, Krabi province, specifically on the beautiful Kantiang Bay. This location offers a "peaceful and nurturing seclusion" away from more crowded tourist areas.

  • Getting There: The resort provides a complimentary round-trip transfer service from Krabi International Airport, which includes a comfortable van ride and a scenic private speedboat journey to the resort's private beach jetty. The total transfer time from Krabi Airport is approximately 1 hour 50 minutes to 2 hours 10 minutes during high season (November to April).
  • Nearby: While secluded, there are a few local bars and restaurants within walking distance from the beach, such as Why Not Bar. The resort is also close to Mu Koh Lanta National Park and offers marine excursions to nearby islands for snorkeling and sightseeing.

7. Value & Pricing

Many guests feel that Pimalai offers "incredible value" for a luxury resort experience, especially when considering the level of service, facilities, and unique setting. While prices can vary, KAYAK indicates rates starting from around $118 in low season for a Deluxe room, up to $1,081 for other room types, with high season in February. The complimentary airport transfers add to the overall value.

8. Common Complaints

While overwhelmingly positive, some minor recurring issues or criticisms have been noted:

  • Maintenance & Age: A few reviews mention that some areas of the property are "starting to show a bit of age" despite being very well-maintained. The spa's jungle jacuzzi was also closed for maintenance due to heavy rain in the off-season, which was a disappointment for some guests.
  • Atmosphere/Vibe: Due to its secluded nature, some guests have commented that the resort can be very quiet in the evenings, with a desire for more atmosphere or "vibe" in the bar areas, especially when the hotel is fully booked.
  • Communication: One review from October 2025 indicated that communication regarding complimentary pickup and drop-off from the Koh Lanta pier could be clearer.
  • Mattresses: While the resort strives for comfortable sleeping experiences, a few guests have mentioned issues with mattresses in certain rooms, though the resort is said to address these concerns.

We stayed in a pool villa, which was stunning and had everything we expected. The staff were, without exception, very friendly and welcoming. We also enjoyed some great food at dinner, and took advantage of the happy hour at the two bars. We did think that the breakfast was not particularly good - there was choice, but it wasn’t that extensive and the à la carte portions were small. We also thoug...

This resort is truly luxurious and you won't regret coming here. Rooms are large, clean and service is spot on. The beach is large and mostly private, pools are small but tidy and you'll always find a chair. Restaurants are very expensive, let's say 3x what you'd pay outside. Not too much less of what we would pay in London. However, for a 500£ a night resort, I did not expect to have a tour of...
