  • Exceptional Personalized Service: The staff's attentiveness and ability to anticipate needs, with personalized touches like in-room check-in and remembering guest preferences, are frequently highlighted.
  • Serene Design & Grounds: The hotel is celebrated for its low-rise architecture set within six acres of beautifully landscaped gardens, courtyards, and lotus ponds, creating a peaceful sanctuary. The design, inspired by the ancient capital of Sukhothai, seamlessly blends traditional Thai elegance with modern comfort.

The rooms at The Sukhothai Bangkok are described as spacious, comfortable, and embodying "classic luxury." They are adorned with elegant wooden floors, often finished with water-based, non-toxic polyurethane, and feature rich Thai silks and Jim Thompson fabric upholstery. Modern amenities include large flat-screen high-definition TVs, Bose audio systems or iPod docks, Nespresso coffee machines, and well-appointed desks.

Bathrooms are luxurious retreats, featuring separate bathtubs and rain showers, dual vanities, and high-end toiletries from brands like PAÑPURI and Diptyque. It offers easy access to various attractions and transport options:

  • Nearby Attractions: Within walking distance to Lumphini Park, the new One Bangkok development, other luxury hotels, and the vibrant gay neighborhood. Landmarks like the Snake Farm and BNH Hospital are also close by.
  • Public Transport: Conveniently located a short walk from Lumphini MRT Subway Station (about 10-12 minutes) and Sala Daeng BTS Skytrain Station (about 15 minutes), allowing quick access to major precincts like Siam Square, Silom, and Chatuchak Weekend Market.
  • Airport Access: Approximately a 40-45 minute drive from Suvarnabhumi International Airport (BKK) via taxi, with the hotel also offering private limousine services and airport transfer options.

7. Value & Pricing

The Sukhothai Bangkok is generally considered to offer excellent value for a luxury five-star property, with guests often remarking that the luxurious experience is "worth every penny." While prices vary based on dates and room types, an average room price is around $250, which is noted as providing "exceptional value for money" compared to the average hotel room price in Bangkok. Booking a Club Room is often recommended for the added benefits of lounge access, including afternoon tea and evening cocktails.

8. Common Complaints

While overwhelmingly positive, some recurring criticisms and issues have been noted by guests:

  • Inconsistent Service in some areas: Some older reviews mentioned instances of dirty room-service trays left in hallways and a lack of staff at the pool for service or towel replenishment.
  • Club Lounge Offerings: A few guests expressed disappointment with the variety and quantity of food in the Club Lounge.
  • Aesthetic Concerns: The addition of "tacky video monitors" in the lobby was criticized for detracting from the hotel's elegant and zen ambiance.
  • Room-Specific Issues: Occasional complaints include noisy room air conditioning that couldn't be completely turned off at night, and a desire for more lighting in rooms. One recent review cited a Deluxe Room as "very run down" with a "musty smell," contrasting with generally positive room feedback.
  • Mini-Bar Pricing: The mini-bar prices are often considered to be high.
  • Pool Shade and Facilities: The pool can get shade in the afternoon, making it best used in the morning, and some noted older or poorly maintained pool WC facilities with mosquitoes. The AC in the main breakfast restaurant has also been noted as being excessively cold at times.

To be honest, I initially wrote a negative review this year because there were a few disappointments compared to our stay last year. However, the staff handled them very well, patiently, and respectfully, so I've updated the review, and we are completely satisfied again. The breakfast and service are among the best of any 5-star hotel I've ever stayed at. The Club Lounge staff are very attentive a...

Great hotel with good amenities. The swimming pool and spa are luxurious. The food at the Italian restaurant was good. Staff is courteous and service is fast. Rooms are well kept and very spacious. Beautiful gardens and spacious property. Slightly away from malls and main party areas (Sukhumvit etc.) but good for those who enjoy peace and quiet.

I don’t know where all the rave reviews come from but having chosen the Sukhothai over another 5 star hotel due to the Michelin keys, my experience has been nothing short of underwhelming: 1. I booked a Club room which comes with free laundry of 2 garments per stay. Having had the garments picked up more than 24 hours ago, the garments have still not been returned even though I rang them this eve...

We purchased day passes for the pool and had a wonderful experience. The grounds are huge. If you get in early you can grab a comfy cabana. Iced water is refreshed regularly, and the pool snacks were beautifully presented and delicious. And bonus: the pool was a comfortable 26 degrees!
