Expert Review: The Moore

The Moore, Miami: A Michelin One-Key Oasis in the Design District

The Moore, a Michelin One-Key property in Miami, consistently receives high praise as a "very special stay". Guests laud its exceptional design, prime location within the vibrant Design District, and attentive service, making it a standout boutique hotel.

1. Overall Rating & Sentiment

The general consensus for The Moore is overwhelmingly positive, with an "Exceptional" rating of 10/10 based on 21 reviews on Hotels.com and a "Wonderful" 9.2/10 from 8 reviews on Booking.com. Guests describe their experiences as "blissful" and "absolutely incredible," often wishing they could extend their stay. The hotel is particularly well-regarded for its luxurious and comfortable retreat atmosphere.

2. Key Highlights

Guests consistently highlight several aspects that make The Moore a beloved destination:

  • Design & Ambiance: Housed in a 100-year-old Art Deco building, the hotel's aesthetic is a major draw. It features a striking Zaha Hadid "Elastika" installation spanning its light-filled atrium, alongside blue-chip art and high-style rooms. The blend of custom furniture, art, and decorative elements by brands like Mous and Sossego contributes to its sophisticated and unique character. The building also functions as a "clubhouse" for Miami's creative set, offering a dynamic atmosphere.
  • Exclusive Access: A significant perk of staying at The Moore is the opportunity to "moonlight as a private club member," granting access to beautifully designed spaces such as The Courtyard, with its museum-quality art, Banyan Bar, and Miwa Sushi Bar. The hotel also offers access to a posh coworking space, private dining rooms, a game room, a cigar room, and cultural programming.
  • Location: Its strategic placement in the heart of the Miami Design District, Miami's luxury retail hub, is consistently praised. Guests appreciate being just a minute's walk from the Miami Design Shopping District and an 8-minute walk from The Shops at Midtown Miami. This location offers easy access to high-end boutiques, art galleries, and diverse dining options.
  • Amenities: The hotel offers a range of appealing amenities, including two on-site restaurants, three bars/lounges, a coffee shop/cafe, and daily housekeeping. Free WiFi, private bathrooms with separate bathtubs and showers, and free minibars are standard in all units. Some reviews also mention a partnership with a shoreside hotel for private beach access.

3. Room Quality

The Moore's 13 residential-style rooms and suites are celebrated for their size, comfort, and sophisticated design. Reviewers describe them as "large, beautifully appointed and exceptionally comfortable, providing a calm and luxurious retreat".

  • Comfort & Design: Rooms, conceived by Studio Collective in collaboration with iCrave, feature an inspired mix of custom furniture, art, and decorative elements. They boast plaster walls, curved wood, clay, and rattan, playing with texture and tone. King-size beds from Swedish brand Duxiana are noted for their plush comfort and crisp bedsheets.
  • Amenities: Each room includes oversized soaking tubs and bathrooms with porcelain slab walls and floors. Shower amenities are the "divine-smelling Byredo Mojave Ghost". Suites offer additional space with dining tables and seating areas featuring boucle-covered sofas. Minibars are often stocked with full-sized liquor bottles and a fancy Chemex pour-over coffee maker.
  • Variety: The hotel offers various room types, including Suites, Accessible Suites, Studios, and larger residences like La Familia and The Green Room, the latter boasting an in-room bathtub with city views.

4. Dining Experience

The Moore provides a diverse and high-quality dining experience across its two onsite restaurants and multiple bars.

  • Elastika: The main restaurant, Elastika, is located on the ground floor beneath the iconic Zaha Hadid sculpture. It serves farm-sourced, modern American cuisine with Mediterranean influences, overseen by Executive Chef Joe Anthony. Dishes include heirloom tomato gazpacho, roasted local mahi, and a signature smoked chicken platter.
  • The Courtyard (Members' Club): Guests also have access to the second-floor balcony restaurant within the members' club, The Courtyard. This spot offers casual, all-day plates and freshly prepared sushi from the Miwa Sushi Bar.
  • Breakfast: An à la carte breakfast is available, though rates are typically room-only, meaning breakfast is an additional purchase.
  • Bars: With three bars/lounges, including The Banyan Bar for bubbles and caviar, there are ample options for cocktails and refreshments.

5. Service & Staff

Guest feedback on service and staff is overwhelmingly positive, describing them as "warm, friendly, and helpful". From front desk attendants to restaurant servers, the staff is noted for going "above and beyond to help and accommodate". One guest specifically highlighted proactive communication from the team regarding their plans and requirements, setting a welcoming tone even before arrival.

6. Location & Accessibility

The Moore's location in the Miami Design District is a significant advantage.

  • Neighborhood: It is situated in Miami's luxury retail and cultural hub, surrounded by designer boutiques (Hermès, Loewe, Dior), art galleries (Institute of Contemporary Art, Opera Gallery), and concept stores.
  • Attractions: Beyond the immediate Design District, the hotel is a short drive from attractions like Kaseya Center (5 minutes), Bayside Marketplace (short drive), Bayfront Park (short drive), and Adrienne Arsht Center (2 miles).
  • Transport: Miami International Airport is approximately 35 minutes away by car. Self-parking is available for USD 25 per day, and valet parking costs USD 50 per night. The hotel also offers wheelchair-accessible paths, elevators, and public washrooms, with ADA-compliant rooms available.

7. Value & Pricing

The Moore is considered a 5-star hotel offering "good value with quality service". Prices for a night's stay start from approximately US$487. While it is a luxury property, the unique experience, design, exclusive club access, and prime location contribute to its perceived worth.

8. Common Complaints

While guest reviews are largely positive, some insights from employee reviews, though not directly guest complaints, suggest potential areas for improvement in internal operations that could indirectly impact guest experience if not consistently managed. These include mentions of disorganization, lack of structure, and management issues during the opening of the social club. However, the management has acknowledged these "growing pains" and expressed commitment to fine-tuning operations and building a strong culture to ensure outstanding service. Direct guest complaints regarding service consistency or specific operational issues are not prominent in the available reviews. It is also an adults-only property, which might be a consideration for some travelers. Pets are not allowed, with the exception of service animals.

the membership is a complete scam.. as it turns out 10k just gets you inside, co-working is additional fee, 20% mandatory service fees at restaurant, conference rooms are extra, events are mostly happy hour, astronomical parking fees around the area. Even coffee/water station is off limits - bring your own water! Once you’ve subscribed good luck getting a hold of the “member concierge”
