Expert Review: The Knot Sapporo
The Knot Sapporo stands out as a Michelin Key Selected property, frequently praised for its modern aesthetic, exceptional location, and friendly service, making it a highly regarded choice for travelers visiting Sapporo.
1. Overall Rating & Sentiment
The general consensus for The Knot Sapporo is overwhelmingly positive, with guests consistently reporting an excellent experience. The hotel boasts an impressive overall rating of 9.2 on Agoda and 8.7 on Booking.com. Guests frequently highlight their "exceptional stay" and describe the hotel as a "delight," appreciating its modern amenities, cleanliness, and contemporary design. Being a Michelin Key Selected property further underscores its quality and contribution to the guest experience.
2. Key Highlights
Guests consistently love several aspects of The Knot Sapporo:
- Location: The hotel's "unbeatable" and "outstanding" location in the heart of Sapporo is a major draw. A significant highlight is the direct elevator access to the underground mall, Pole Town, which connects to major metro stations like Susukino and Odori. This is particularly convenient during Sapporo's snowy winters.
- Design: The hotel's design is frequently lauded for its modern elegance and stylish ambiance. It successfully blends an urban, big-city loft style with rustic and rural elements, incorporating local cedar walls in some rooms and an "àpres-ski vibe" in the lobby lounge.
- Service: The staff are consistently described as friendly, helpful, and attentive, receiving high marks for their hospitality. Many guests appreciate the proactive service.
- Amenities: Key amenities include free Wi-Fi throughout the property, a welcoming bar with a vibrant atmosphere and a live DJ, a restaurant, and a coffee shop. A unique perk is the "Knot coins" given to guests, which can be exchanged for complimentary drinks or desserts at the lounge. The presence of an on-site convenience store (Seicomart) and a laundry room also adds to guest convenience.
3. Room Quality
The Knot Sapporo offers "modern, clean, and well-equipped" rooms designed for comfort and style. While some guests note that rooms can be "compact" or "a little bit small," many find the design efficiently maximizes the space, with some describing them as "larger than normal for what I am used to in Japan."
Each room features air conditioning, blackout curtains for a restful night's sleep, and plush linens. Private bathrooms are well-appointed with a bidet, separate toilet, shower, bath sheets, and hairdryers. A highlight for many is the "nice and deep" bathtub, perfect for soaking. In-room amenities typically include a flat-screen TV, refrigerator, electric kettle, work desk, complimentary water bottles, and an air purifier. Some rooms also offer city or tram views. It's worth noting that the hotel does not have an onsen (hot spring). Housekeeping provides a light service, refreshing towels, pajamas, and trash daily, but does not include full bed sheet replacement for short stays.
4. Dining Experience
The hotel features an on-site restaurant named "Les Bois," which serves European cuisine for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
Breakfast is described as consisting of a main dish coupled with a semi-buffet. While some guests have lauded the breakfast as "fantastic" and "stunning," others have found the buffet selection to be "quite limited" and suggested exploring external dining options. It is important to note that the breakfast offerings and pricing will be changing to a "Choice of Main Dish + Half Buffet" style starting August 1, 2025.
The hotel also has a bar, described as vibrant and welcoming, offering a selection of local and international beverages, including cocktails. A live DJ sometimes adds to the ambiance.
5. Service & Staff
The service at The Knot Sapporo receives high praise from guests. The staff are consistently highlighted as "friendly," "helpful," and "attentive," earning strong performance ratings. Many appreciate their proactive approach to service. The hotel also offers multilingual staff to assist international travelers. While generally excellent, a few minor criticisms include some "new faces" being "a little clunky" at times and occasional disagreements regarding breakfast terms and conditions for children. The hotel also has a policy that requires the name on the guest's passport to match the reservation name.
6. Location & Accessibility
The Knot Sapporo boasts an "excellent" and "unbeatable" central location in Sapporo. Its most celebrated feature is the direct elevator access to the underground mall, Pole Town, which connects directly to major subway stations like Susukino and Odori, making navigation convenient, especially during winter.
Key attractions and transport links nearby include:
- Shopping: Tanukikoji Shopping Street (steps away / 190m) and directly opposite Mega Don Quijote.
- Entertainment/Nightlife: Susukino (132m / 200m)
- Parks & Landmarks: Odori Park (8-minute walk / 430m) and Sapporo TV Tower (2297 feet / 550m). Nakajima Park is also within a 15-minute walk.
- Transportation: The hotel offers easy access to the Sapporo Chuo Bus Terminal and local bus routes. The airport bus stop is a mere 3-minute walk away. Sapporo Station is approximately 1.2 miles (1.8 km) distant.
7. Value & Pricing
Guests generally consider The Knot Sapporo to offer "good value for money," reflected in its value rating of 9.0 on Agoda and 8.6 on Booking.com. Room prices can start from around $102, with some deals found as low as $46-$50, and an average rate around 150,000 KRW (approximately USD 110) per night. This positions the hotel as a more accessible option while still delivering a high-quality experience compared to other hotels in Sapporo. The "Knot coins" for complimentary drinks at the lounge further enhance the perceived value.
8. Common Complaints
While largely positive, some recurring criticisms include:
- Breakfast Limitations: The breakfast buffet, while generally liked, is sometimes noted for its "limited" selection, leading some guests to suggest seeking alternatives outside the hotel.
- No Onsen: The absence of a traditional Japanese hot spring (onsen) might be a drawback for some travelers.
- Parking Inconvenience: On-site parking is not available, and nearby public parking lots can be inconvenient or expensive.
- Room Size: Although often well-designed, some guests find the rooms to be "compact" or "small."
- Lounge Access Fee: There is no complimentary waiting area in the lounge without paying a fee (e.g., 550 yen for unlimited tea/coffee).
- Strict Check-in/out: The hotel has a strict 3:00 PM check-in time, with no early check-in offered, and late check-out is not available.
- Amenity Provision: Some basic amenities like toothbrushes or lotion may need to be picked up from the lobby rather than being provided directly in the room.
- Housekeeping: Housekeeping is a light service only, which means full bed sheet replacement is not done during short stays.

Lovely boutique hotel located in the heart of Sapporo! Perfect location that is just a few minutes away and walking distance to Odori Park, the TV tower, Niju Market, Ramen Alley and the Nikka sign. There's also a SeicoMart convenience store next door btw. We visited during the Sapporo Snow Festival. The Knot Sapporo has direct access to the underground mall. From the underground mall, you can wal...

Front staff have been placing smile on their face and attempted to show friendliness. However, we had issue with the breakfast attendance taking when we booked 6 rooms but it is claimed that children are not included: 1. In the original booking with booking.com, there is no mention of children are excluded from breakfast. 2. Staff are in a mess, not systematic, when taking in breakfast attendance ...

Loved my stay here! Rooms are a little smaller than usual but extremely well maintained and very cosy. This is a new property and it shows in every aspect. They have a chic modern woody vibe which I loved 😍 Breakfast was not too varied but was super high quality. Heartily recommend.

Very disappointing experience. The rooms and location are indeed ideal, however the service at the hotel was hostile. Guests are unable to enjoy the lobby without paying a service charge for sitting, and simple requests were difficult. We asked for a spoon to eat some yogurt in our room, and were told no. We also wanted a cup of tea, and had a problem getting cups to take back to our room. Through...

We stayed 3 nights in this hotel, perfect location in the main Susukino area, access underground shopping street and mrt station directly. The room was average spacious but fusion with good quality. Heard about complaint of their staffs from several review but luckily, we were good and actually, their staffs were quite helpful.

As a frequent traveler, this is my first time returning to a room that was only superficially serviced. Only towels were changed, the trash was removed, and the blanket was placed over the bed, covering clothes I had left there—without even arranging the pillows. The rest was practically left untouched. I would honestly have preferred no housekeeping at all, assuming the room had been missed, rat...
