8. Common Complaints

While generally well-received, some recurring issues and criticisms have been noted by guests:

  • Noise: Being in a bustling downtown location, some guests have experienced noise from the street, even in higher rooms, due to thin windows.
  • Outdated Technology: Several reviews mention that the in-room televisions are "very outdated" with no options to stream or connect devices, which is seen as a lacking feature in a modern hotel.
  • Room Layout/Features: A few guests found the room size small, or had issues with the placement of shelves making luggage access difficult. Some also noted the absence of a proper wardrobe.
  • Service Inconsistencies: While staff are largely praised, isolated incidents of "curt and unfriendly" front desk staff or staff seeming "a little put out" when asked for assistance have been reported. There was also a complaint about a rooftop bar not being open during posted hours.
  • Dining/App Functionality: One guest reported a "very limited and underwhelming" food menu and non-functional QR ordering system for room service or poolside.
  • Parking Cost: The high cost of valet parking ($60 per night) is a frequent point of contention, with some feeling it's an intentional overcharge compared to nearby independent lots.

I can’t recommend this hotel enough! From the staff to the actual cleanliness of the hotel. I have never felt so comfortable in a hotel in downtown Los Angeles. I stayed here three nights. The security is great and ensure safety especially if you are traveling alone. The check-in process was amazing and the instructions were very clear. The room was spacious and I love how the shower and the bathr...

Stylish Design Can’t Hide Incompetent Service and Poor Management I am beyond disappointed with my stay at this property. While the hotel is visually appealing, the "hospitality" was nonexistent. For the price paid, the service was amateur at best and insulting at worst. The Check-in Disaster After a grueling 15-hour flight, we arrived 30 minutes before the official check-in time. Instead of a ...

The duvet cover was excellent quality (not just a basic bedsheet). It had very little synthetic fiber, which made it extremely comfortable and breathable. The room was also well equipped, including a kettle and all the essential amenities. Plus the room has good soundproofing. Overall summary: Atmosphere: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (5/5) Cozy, clean, and thoughtfully designed with a unique character. Service: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐...

I booked my stay here during New Year’s Eve, and overall the hospitality was amazing. They offer unlimited water and milk refills, and I really liked the room decorations. The receptionists were friendly and provided excellent service, and the room service was also outstanding. I would definitely recommend this hotel as one of the best places to stay in downtown LA.

UPDATE Jan 2/26: Hotel management resolved this issue promptly. I really appreciated how the Hoxton dealt with the matter, and felt it was important to update this review. Jan 1/26: Bought tickets for the Hoxton’d NYE party (through Eventbrite) and it was the biggest rip off! That place was dead. The lobby area they designated for the NYE party was a small area to the le...

I stayed at The Hoxton for two nights and absolutely loved it. The room was spotless and beautifully designed with Art Deco touches, and the heated rooftop pool was a highlight. Booking through Amex came with dining credit and late checkout, which made the stay even better. I highly recommend The Hoxton and would definitely return.
