Of all the hotels we stayed in during our 25 days in NZ, The George in Christchurch was by far our most favorite. A great boutique hotel with exceptionally friendly and professional staff. As one would expect in a boutique context, the attention to detail was in everything. The room had all comforts, breakfast is great, the decorations around are done with a lot of taste. Thank you for making our ...

We unfortunately booked here not knowing there was a concert on that night. It was very expensive but we wanted to treat ourselves. I explained when I checked in that we just wanted a nice quiet night but despite this we were given a room on the ground floor directly opposite the concert. No one assisted me with my bags, the windows were filthy, the blinds were dusty and it wasn't very clean. The ...

Great location by the botanical gardens, nice and friendly receptionist and a welcome coffee was appreciated. Room (premium executive overlooking gardens) was small with no real view, good comfy bed, low pressure shower. Barman made some great cocktails although the gourmet experience dinner/breakfast was a letdown at the Bistro 50. Free parking and charging was useful.

I took my mum to the 50 bistro for a joint birthday treat. It could not have been better. We shared the bread plate with the most divine smoked butter to start, then mum had a grouper dish with corn and chorizo it was delicious. I had the rib dish with mashed potato so silky they melted on the mouth. It also had mushrooms. It was divine. I had a desert which I shouldn't have as the staff bought us...

We only stayed one night at the George and wished we spent more time at the hotel and in the city itself. Hotel is wonderfully located, making possible a wonderful day at the botanical garden followed by dinner at one of the many restaurants in the business district by the cathedral. Very welcoming front desk and concierge staff who provided excellent personal recommendations for what to see and...
