The Amelia Hudson, a Michelin Key Selected property nestled in the heart of the Catskills & Hudson Valley, offers guests a luxurious and unpretentious retreat in a beautifully restored 19th-century Queen Anne-style house. The hotel is consistently praised for its charming ambiance, attentive service, and prime location, making it a highly recommended choice for those seeking a tranquil yet sophisticated getaway.

Overall Rating & Sentiment

The Amelia Hudson garners overwhelmingly positive feedback, with an impressive overall rating of 9.3 on Agoda and 9.8 on Hotels.com, indicating an "Exceptional" experience for many guests. The Michelin Guide awards it an "Overall Experience" score of 18.6 out of 20, with high marks for rooms (19.3) and public spaces (19.3). Guests frequently describe their stays as "exquisite luxury with exceptional service" and a "wonderful, very special place."

Key Highlights

Guests consistently laud The Amelia Hudson for several key aspects. The stunning aesthetics and quietly chic design, blending modern furnishings with the historic architecture, are often highlighted. The friendly and welcoming staff, offering personalized attention, stands out as a major draw. Its excellent location, just a short walk from Hudson's main thoroughfare, Warren Street, is also a significant advantage. Thoughtful amenities such as Matouk linens, Frette towels, and Nespresso machines are appreciated comforts. The seasonal outdoor pool fringed with greenery, an English garden, a library, and an outdoor fire pit provide ample opportunities for relaxation and socializing.

Room Quality

The Amelia offers eight spacious and thoughtfully designed guest rooms and suites, each described as a "sanctum of comfort awash in natural light." Rooms feature a blend of modern and classic elements, creating a cozy and inviting atmosphere. Guests rave about the comfortable beds, plush linens, and spacious, well-equipped modern bathrooms with good water pressure and natural light. Amenities include plasma TVs, safes, designer toiletries (from local Hudson Valley company Lockwood New York), and Nespresso machines. The property offers various room types, including Garden View rooms overlooking the pool and Catskill Mountains, Hudson View rooms with captivating views of 19th-century homes, and Grand Suites with separate bedrooms and large living areas.

Dining Experience

The dining experience at The Amelia centers around a complimentary self-serve breakfast. This typically includes homemade granola, pastries, fresh fruit, baked goods, bagels, English muffins, and excellent coffee. While there isn't a full-service restaurant on-site, guests appreciate the quality of the breakfast offerings, especially the fresh items. The central location in Hudson means numerous restaurants and cafes are just a short walk away.

Service & Staff

The service and staff at The Amelia Hudson consistently receive high praise. Guests frequently commend the staff for their warm hospitality, personalized attention, and accommodating nature. Reviewers describe the staff as "friendly, welcoming," "super-responsive by text," and providing "exceptional" or "extraordinary service." The hotel also offers convenient services such as express check-in and check-out, and daily housekeeping.

Location & Accessibility

The Amelia Hudson boasts an "excellent location" in the heart of Hudson, New York. Situated on a quiet residential street, it offers a peaceful retreat while being just a short walk (about 5-9 minutes) from Warren Street, the town's vibrant main drag, known for its shops, art galleries, and restaurants. The hotel is also conveniently located near the Hudson Opera House and just a 9-minute walk from Hudson Station (Amtrak), providing easy connections to major cities. For those traveling by air, Albany International Airport (ALB) is approximately 50 miles away, with car rental, taxi, or ride-sharing services available. Free self-parking is offered on-site.

Value & Pricing

With an average room price around $465, The Amelia is positioned as a luxury boutique experience. While some guests consider it to offer "exceptional value" and "affordable luxury" for the quality of the experience, others have noted that the pricing may not fully align with their expectations, particularly concerning the self-serve breakfast options compared to a full hot breakfast. Compared to the average hotel room price in Hudson (around $279), The Amelia is a higher-end option.

Common Complaints

While largely positive, some recurring points of criticism or areas for consideration include:

  • Breakfast Offerings: A common sentiment is that while the self-serve breakfast is good with homemade items, some guests feel it could be improved in terms of presentation and selection, especially given the hotel's price point and the absence of a hot breakfast or full-service restaurant.
  • No 24/7 Staffing: The Amelia operates more like a private home than a full-service hotel, meaning there isn't 24/7 staff on duty, though staff are highly responsive via text.
  • Age Restriction: Children under 12 years of age are not permitted.
  • No Pets Allowed: Guests cannot bring pets.

We stayed at the Amelia over Christmas holiday and could not be happier! The rooms were large, comfortable and clean and the house is gorgeous. Misty took exceptional care of us during our stay, always trying to anticipate every need. It was a magical experience!!

The Amelia is in a big beautiful Victorian just a few blocks from Warren St. in a quiet neighborhood. We stayed in Rm 8, which is quite large with a separate bedroom. The living area furnishings are a little sparse and not super comfortable (the leather lounger was unusable - so stiff and mean!). Our biggest issue was the windows - we stayed New Year's Eve, when it was quite windy and one of the 1...

Perfect location, comfortable + quiet rooms. We had room 6 and it was a stunning view. Would love to return in the summer and use the gorgeous pool!! One star deducted because some of the furniture and such is a bit beat up and scuffed and could be updated/tended to.

Had a great stay at the Amelia for our wedding weekend with family and couldn’t have had a better stay. Great location, amazing pool, rooms are very clean and comfortable, common spaces were great, and staff was stellar! Looking forward to staying here again.

The room (#5) had an overwhelming chemical smell that made us ill. We weren’t comfortable spending the night, and the hotel refunded us, but it was an odd experience in the 45 minutes that we were there. Smell aside, the property is okay but doesn’t warrant the price, in my opinion. It is more of a B&B instead of a hotel. We love Rivertown Lodge and will keep that as our go-to stay in Hudson. For...

We are sorry about your experience. We do not use any harsh chemicals to clean. We use alcohol to sterilize remotes and switches and clean windows and Mrs Meyers products for other things. Anyway, we ...
