2. Key Highlights

Guests consistently laud several aspects of Orphée Großes Haus:

  • Design & Ambiance: The "finest collection of art and decorations" and the impression of a "classy Parisian boutique hotel" are frequently mentioned. The historic Baroque building, dating from 1896, with its stucco ceilings, wooden floors, art, and antiques, creates a distinctive and charming atmosphere.
  • Location: Its prime spot in the heart of Regensburg's historic quarter, just a short walk from major attractions like the Regensburg Cathedral, Old Town Hall, Stone Bridge, and various shops and restaurants, is a significant draw.

  • Dining: The on-site French bistro and restaurant, along with the quality of breakfast, receive consistent acclaim.

3. Room Quality

The hotel boasts 32 to 58 individually styled rooms, many exceeding 60 sqm (650 square feet) in size, particularly in the "Großes Haus" (Large House). These rooms are a key part of the hotel's appeal, featuring antique furniture, chandeliers, four-poster beds, and beautiful stucco ceilings, offering a unique and luxurious feel. Guests appreciate the spaciousness and the "medieval touch" or "baroque stucco ceiling". Modern amenities like free broadband internet access and flat-screen TVs are also present. Extra costs may apply for rollaway beds (€37 per night) or cribs (€15 per night). Pets are allowed for an additional charge.

8. Common Complaints

While largely positive, some recurring criticisms include:

  • No Air Conditioning: Several guests have noted the lack of air conditioning, which can be an issue during warmer months.
  • Parking: The central location means there is no on-site parking, which can be inconvenient for those traveling by car.
  • Room Condition (Infrequent): A few older reviews mention rooms feeling "in need of investment" or "shabby," though more recent reviews predominantly highlight beautiful and well-maintained rooms, suggesting renovations or updates have occurred. One review in December 2025 mentioned creaking floors.
  • Breakfast Staff (Isolated Incidents): While generally praised, a couple of older reviews on HolidayCheck and Booking.com mention unfriendly or indifferent breakfast staff.
  • Bathroom Design: Some guests have found bathrooms to be small, or the high step into the shower/bath combination problematic for older guests.

We had a standard room which was very clean with a large, modern bathroom. We provided with complimentary wine, water, and chocolate in the room. Mattress was comfortable, but being made of foam, tended toward being too warm. Our window looked onto a roof. The room lacked a comfortable chair. We really enjoyed the beautiful beamed ceilings, cozy atmosphere, and interesting decor of this historical...

The check-in and check-out were quick and easy. The friendly reception staff was helpful. The room was spacious, but I would’ve liked a TV. The included bottle of red wine was delicious. The breakfast was also included and was delicious!

Very beautiful hotel and great location within old town. Rooms are nice, just wish they had digital card readers for the doors and a room safe. They give you a real key, which is nice and different, but not convenient. Rooms are very clean and spacious with plenty of lighting. They also have a bar/restaurant downstairs that we absolutely loved to have drinks and eat at.

Location is only a 4 star due to no nearby parking. BUT, they partner with local parking structures to get a discount. If you are not in need of a vehicle at your beck and call, this is a beautiful spot in the heart of the old city. The restaurant can’t be beat either.
