Expert Review: Le Faucigny
Le Faucigny in Chamonix, France, a Michelin Key Selected property, is highly regarded for its charming atmosphere, exceptional service, and prime central location. It offers a contemporary yet cozy mountain retreat for guests exploring the Mont-Blanc valley.
1. Overall Rating & Sentiment
Le Faucigny consistently receives "Very Good" to "Wonderful" ratings from guests, with high scores particularly for staff and location. The overall sentiment is overwhelmingly positive, with many describing it as a "lovely cozy little hotel" and a "hidden gem" in the heart of Chamonix. The hotel is praised for balancing modern design with a comfortable, welcoming ambiance.
2. Key Highlights
Guests frequently highlight several aspects that make Le Faucigny stand out:
- Exceptional Service: The staff's helpfulness and willingness to go "above and beyond" are consistently lauded.
- Prime Location: Its central position in Chamonix, close to shops, restaurants, and transport links, is a major draw.
- Chic Design: The contemporary Scandinavian-inspired decor, featuring a monochrome palette with red accents, creates a stylish yet comfortable environment.
- Relaxing Spa: The small but well-appointed spa with a jacuzzi and sauna is a cherished amenity, especially after a day on the slopes or hiking.
- Comfort: Despite some rooms being compact, comfort is prioritized, with cozy beds and warm materials used throughout.
3. Room Quality
Le Faucigny offers 28 rooms decorated in a contemporary chalet style with white pine furniture, soft heather grey carpets, and subtle red touches. Guests often describe the rooms as clean, comfortable, and well-equipped. Standard amenities include an LCD TV with satellite channels, free Wi-Fi, and private bathrooms with free toiletries, bathrobes, and hairdryers.
While some rooms offer beautiful views of Mont Blanc or Aiguille Rouge, standard double rooms can be as small as 11 square meters (118 square feet). Superior Rooms offer more generous space, and there are also family rooms with lofted sleeping areas. A notable point is that the rooms are accessible by stairs only, as there is no elevator. Top-floor (attic) rooms may have low, sloped ceilings and only skylights instead of windows. Air-conditioning is not typically available, which could make rooms warm in summer.
4. Dining Experience
The hotel serves a daily buffet breakfast in a wood-paneled breakfast room, often by a fireplace. Guests frequently praise the breakfast, describing it as "great buffet style," "very good," and "awesome" with a selection of local products, cheeses, and homemade items. Breakfast is typically offered for an additional charge. Beyond breakfast, the hotel also serves delicious homemade cakes and hot drinks in the lounge during tea time.
5. Service & Staff
The service at Le Faucigny consistently receives high marks, with staff rated around 9.1 out of 10. Guests frequently describe the team as "super friendly," "very helpful," and "uncomplicated". They are known for going the extra mile, assisting with dinner reservations, providing free bus passes, and helping with rebooking additional nights. The staff's attentiveness and hospitality are a significant part of the positive guest experience.
6. Location & Accessibility
Le Faucigny boasts an excellent and central location in the historical heart of Chamonix. It is nestled in the pedestrianized area, providing easy walking access to shops, bars, restaurants, and cafés. Key attractions and transport links are very close:
- Ski Shuttle Service: 100 meters away, connecting directly to Les Grands Montets, Le Tour, and Les Houches.
- Brevent Cable Car: Approximately 500 meters away.
- Tourist Information Centre: Just 50 meters from the hotel.
- Mont-Blanc Express Train Station: Around 850 meters away, offering connections to St-Gervais.
The hotel's location is ideal for local exploring, active holidays, and skiing, with ski storage facilities available.
7. Value & Pricing
Many guests consider Le Faucigny to offer "excellent value". With an average room price of approximately $170, it is often noted to provide exceptional value compared to Chamonix's average room price of $190. Prices can fluctuate, with October often being the cheapest month (around a 40% drop) and July being the most expensive (around a 73% rise).
8. Common Complaints
While overall feedback is highly positive, some recurring issues or criticisms include:
- No Elevator: The hotel does not have an elevator, and rooms are only accessible by stairs, which can be an inconvenience for some guests with luggage or mobility issues.
- Room Size: Standard double rooms can be small (around 11 sq m), which might feel compact to some guests.
- No Air-Conditioning: Rooms lack air-conditioning, potentially leading to discomfort during warmer periods.
- Attic Rooms: Top-floor rooms, particularly in the attic, feature low, sloped ceilings and rely solely on skylights for natural light, which may not appeal to everyone.
- Breakfast Cost: Breakfast is not included in the room rate and comes at an extra charge, typically around EUR 18 for adults.
- Parking: There is no on-site parking at the hotel, although public parking (Saint-Michel public and covered parking) is available 100m away with a supplement, usually EUR 18 per night.

We had a fabulous stay with a combo of hotel room and apartment which was perfect for our group. The staff were amazing and helped with all sorts of requests. Nothing was too much trouble. We had the breakfast included which I would highly recommend. Great way to fuel up for a day’s skiing. We will definitely come back and stay again. Thank you team Le Faucigny!! ☺️

Awesome experience staying at Hotel & Spa Le Faucigny! The location is prime in the city where is easily accessed to supermarkets, shops, and slopes. I was really enjoyable during my stay there. My friend and I also decided to add on breakfast during our snowboarding days and it was decent and value to its price. Highly recommended!

Le Faucigny was a fantastic launchpad for our Haute Route. The staff and service were excellent and the common areas are gorgeous. We loved the little courtyard to relax after the hustle and bustle of the town. The room was on the smaller side, but the fluffy bathrooms made up for the lack in space.
