Expert Review: Hyatt Regency Casablanca

Hyatt Regency Casablanca: A Michelin Key Selected Oasis in the Heart of the City

The Hyatt Regency Casablanca stands as a prominent five-star luxury hotel, earning recognition as a Michelin Key Selected property. Guests consistently praise its exceptional service, prime location, and diverse amenities, positioning it as a top choice for both business and leisure travelers in Casablanca.

1. Overall Rating & Sentiment

The general consensus among guests is overwhelmingly positive, with many describing their stays as "flawless" and "luxurious". Review scores often fall into the "very good" to "excellent" range, with particular accolades for staff performance and location. The hotel is frequently cited as one of the best in Casablanca, offering a high-end experience that often exceeds expectations.

2. Key Highlights

Guests consistently highlight several standout features of the Hyatt Regency Casablanca:

  • Exceptional Service: The staff's professionalism, warmth, and attention to detail are repeatedly lauded, with many guests feeling treated like VIPs.
  • Prime Location: Its central position in the city, near the Old Medina and directly opposite a tram station, makes it highly convenient for exploring Casablanca's attractions.
  • Well-Maintained Facilities: Despite being an older property, the hotel's facilities, including the lobby, pool, and restaurants, are generally well-maintained and often beautifully decorated.
  • Diverse Dining Options: The variety and quality of on-site restaurants, offering both international and traditional Moroccan cuisine, receive positive feedback.

3. Room Quality

The Hyatt Regency Casablanca offers 255 rooms and suites across various categories, including King Rooms, Twin Rooms, View rooms, Regency Club rooms, and larger suites. Rooms are generally described as spacious, clean, and comfortable, with even the smallest starting at 398 square feet (37 square meters).

Rooms feature deluxe amenities such as Simmons Beautyrest beds with cotton linens and down duvets, marble bathtubs, free high-speed internet access, air conditioning, minibars, and flat-screen TVs. Many rooms boast exceptional views of Art Deco facades, the Old Medina, or the Hassan II Mosque, particularly from higher floors. Suites often present a richer decor with wood-paneled walls and separate seating areas. However, some guests have noted that the decor in lower-end rooms can appear somewhat "under-decorated" or "old style". A recurring minor comment is the presence of translucent bathroom doors in some rooms.

4. Dining Experience

The hotel offers five dining outlets catering to various tastes.

  • Café M: This elegant French brasserie is highly regarded for its refined French cuisine, fresh ingredients, and pleasant terrace, and is popular among locals.
  • Dar Beida: Guests can experience authentic Moroccan cuisine in a chic oriental atmosphere, often accompanied by live music and belly dancers.
  • Bissat Restaurant: This is where the buffet breakfast is typically served, often described as "delicious, fresh, and full of variety" and "sumptuous".
  • The Living Room and Les Bougainvillées: Offer more casual dining experiences, with the Living Room also serving wine and cigars.

The breakfast buffet is frequently praised for its quality and extensive selection. While some guests with Regency Club access enjoy complimentary breakfast, it may come at an extra cost for others.

5. Service & Staff

The service at Hyatt Regency Casablanca is consistently highlighted as truly exceptional, often cited as the main reason guests return. Staff members are described as professional, warm, attentive, helpful, and friendly, going "above and beyond" to ensure a comfortable stay. From doormen and reception to restaurant staff and housekeepers, guests frequently commend individual employees by name for their outstanding hospitality. The hotel is noted for its ability to anticipate guest needs and make them feel at home.

6. Location & Accessibility

The hotel boasts an "unbeatable" and "extremely convenient" central location at Place des Nations Unies, placing it in the heart of Casablanca.

  • Attractions: It is within walking distance of the Old Medina (600 meters or 0.25 miles), central market, and close to Art Deco facades. The Hassan II Mosque is also relatively close (2.5 km or 1.6 miles away), with some rooms offering views of it.
  • Transport: The hotel is right opposite a tram station, making public transportation easily accessible. Taxis are readily available outside, and the hotel staff often assist with price negotiations for guests. Casablanca Mohammed V International Airport is approximately 31.7 km (20 miles) away, with airport transfers available for a surcharge.
  • Neighborhood: While central and bustling, some guests note that the immediate area can be a mix of vibrant city life and less tourist-friendly spots, and walking at night might require caution. Despite this, the hotel is considered a "welcome oasis" within the busy city.

7. Value & Pricing

The Hyatt Regency Casablanca offers five-star luxury. While considered fairly expensive, with rates that can sometimes be around $350 per night or higher, many guests feel it offers good value for its class, especially when compared to other luxury hotels in the city. Its selection as a Michelin Key property further underscores its quality. Some guests also note that the exceptional service and amenities make it a worthwhile investment for an outstanding stay.

8. Common Complaints

While reviews are largely positive, some recurring criticisms include:

  • Outdated Facilities/Decor: A few guests mention that some facilities or room decor, particularly in lower-end rooms, can feel "old style" or "a bit old and run-down" and could benefit from refurbishment. Issues like cracked tiles in bathrooms or plush carpeting have been noted.
  • Translucent Bathroom Doors: The design choice of translucent bathroom doors in some rooms is mentioned as a minor inconvenience by some.
  • Breakfast Cost: For guests not in Club Access rooms or without specific packages, breakfast can be an additional, sometimes pricey, expense.
  • Noise Levels: Some reviews mention potential noise levels, likely due to its central city location.
  • Bedding Issues: One older review mentioned stained and ripped sheets, though this was quickly rectified by staff.

Despite these minor points, the overwhelmingly positive feedback regarding service and overall experience suggests these issues do not significantly detract from the hotel's strong reputation.

First of all, the location is good, close to the nearby market and very convenient. The hotel staff and service were outstanding. We were on a family trip, and it was my husband’s birthday during our stay. The staff went above and beyond to help us celebrate his special day in a truly wonderful way. The lady manager (I’m sorry I don’t remember her name) was kind enough to accommodate one of my sp...

I had a vacation to Morocco and stayed here after my flight arrived. I had a great experience. The airport transfer is very reliable and our driver was very courteous. As a Globalist, I was upgraded to a suite and it was very large. The room was a bit dated, but the service is absolutely exceptional. The breakfast is also incredible and is definitely one of the highlights.

Stayed here as a globalist and was upgraded to a very nice suite. The room is a bit dated but still very nice with a great view of the mosque. Employees were very nice but I found service to be slightly slow. Breakfast was a disappointment, everything was empty and wasn’t being replaced for the amount of people that were there. Had to wait 10mins in a line to get eggs and there wasn’t much else ...

The guest room and the restaurant were very good. I stayed in a Junior Suite and was fully satisfied with the room. The view was also excellent. However, the front desk experience at check-in was disappointing. The staff’s attitude felt noticeably different toward Asian guests compared to Western guests, and the service came across as rather careless and unprofessional.

The room and bathroom seem to be from the 90s, old, outdated, not clean. The toilet seat was separate from the rest of the bathroom , which is extremely not practical if you need to wash your hands after using the toilet. The shower and sink door is brown transparent glass so this room is not advisable for other than couples. External Entrance of the hotel is extremely dirty. Smoking cigarettes an...

A comfortable place to stay overall with free breakfast for Hyatt members. The room toilet was problematic since the toilet area only had a toilet seat, so we had to walk through the room towards the bathroom to wash hands in the sink. Also the toilet area was too small. The door opened inside and i had to scootch though to exit
