Expert Review: L'Hôtel Marrakech

L'Hôtel Marrakech: An Exquisite Riad Experience in the Heart of the Medina

L'Hôtel Marrakech, a Michelin Key Selected property, consistently earns glowing reviews, establishing itself as a truly exceptional retreat in the vibrant city of Marrakech. Guests frequently describe their stays as "magical," "amazing," and "exquisite," highlighting its unique blend of serene luxury and authentic Moroccan charm.

1. Overall Rating & Sentiment

The overall sentiment for L'Hôtel Marrakech is overwhelmingly positive. It consistently receives high guest scores, with ratings such as 19.5 out of 20 from the MICHELIN Guide and 19.6 from Tablet Hotels. The hotel is celebrated for providing a "luxurious yet homely stay" and an "unparalleled place to pass your time."

2. Key Highlights

Guests are particularly enchanted by the hotel's serene atmosphere, exceptional service, and sophisticated design curated by Jasper Conran. The property boasts a beautiful courtyard garden, a rare lap pool within the Medina, and inviting roof terraces offering views of the Atlas Mountains. The exquisite food also stands out as a significant highlight.

3. Room Quality

L'Hôtel Marrakech features six spacious and romantic suites, each uniquely designed. The rooms exude elegance with pure white four-poster beds draped in muslin, handmade Egyptian-cotton linens, and air-conditioning. Designer Jasper Conran's influence is evident in the tasteful blend of traditional Moroccan craftsmanship with antiques, textiles, lighting, and art from his personal collection, creating a "collected rather than designed" feel. Many suites offer private terraces or courtyard gardens, and some even include a walk-in wardrobe or a private sundeck with a dipping pool. Bathrooms are described as commodious, featuring roll-top baths, large sinks, and showers, complemented by Le Sens de Marrakech toiletries. Fireplaces are a cozy touch, with staff even lighting them without guests needing to ask on colder nights.

4. Dining Experience

The dining experience at L'Hôtel Marrakech is highly praised, often cited as among the best meals guests have had in Marrakech. There is no fixed menu; instead, meals are an informal affair where guests communicate their preferences to the staff. Traditional Moroccan cuisine, with a focus on tagines prepared in earthenware pots, uses seasonal local produce and celebrates rich aromas and spices. Breakfast, lunch, and afternoon tea can be enjoyed under a pergola on the roof terrace, or on private terraces, offering views and a peaceful ambiance. Dinner is served in the elegantly decorated dining room or on private terraces, with fires lit on cooler evenings.

5. Service & Staff

The service and staff at L'Hôtel Marrakech consistently receive exceptional reviews. Guests describe the team as "endlessly accommodating," "friendly," "attentive," "professional," and "warm." Staff members are commended for anticipating guests' needs, providing personalized care, and offering valuable insights into the city, including recommendations for souks, taxis, and local experiences. They go above and beyond, from providing gluten-free options to arranging excursions and ensuring reservations are timed perfectly. Many guests feel "taken care of from beginning to end" and describe the experience as being a treasured guest in a beautiful private home.

6. Location & Accessibility

L'Hôtel Marrakech is ideally situated in a secluded, peaceful quarter of the Medina, north-west of the bustling Jemaa El-Fna square and the souks. While nestled within the maze-like streets of the old city, it offers convenient access to major attractions like the Koutoubia Mosque and Jardin Majorelle. Given the Medina's layout, staff meet guests at the Ben Youssef Mosque and guide them directly to the riad's decorative doors, ensuring a seamless arrival. Complimentary airport transfers are included, making arrival and departure stress-free.

7. Value & Pricing

L'Hôtel Marrakech is a luxury property, with room rates starting from approximately €400 per night on a bed and breakfast basis. Rates typically include breakfast, lunch, and dinner, adding to the perceived value. While some acknowledge the higher price point, the overwhelming consensus from guests is that the experience is "worth every penny" for the divine atmosphere, impeccable service, and overall sense of being incredibly well looked after.

8. Common Complaints

While overwhelmingly positive, a few minor points for improvement have been noted by guests. One review mentioned some "patchy" breakfast timings and inconsistent information regarding the availability of the hammam. It is also important to note that L'Hôtel Marrakech is an adult-only property, catering exclusively to guests over 18, to maintain its serene ambiance. This may be a consideration for travelers with children. For some, at this price point, a preference might lean towards more modern, luxe spaces found outside the Medina.

We dined at L’Hotel Marrakech last night - it was absolutely gorgeous and we loved every minute. The food was simply delicious home cooking - best tagine I’ve ever had in Morocco. The setting was beautiful and the staff were wonderful. Sadly we couldn’t stay there as it was booked, but we will return one day. I really recommend this Riad as the most romantic place to stay, an oasis of tranquility ...

We only had dinner at L’hotel and I have to say… this is the best food we’ve had in Morocco and the level of service is really on another level. Attention to the tiniest detail feels effortless to them. Special thanks to Ibrahim and Ayoub who made our night feel truly special.

This hotel is absolutely amazing. My husband and I loved every minute of our stay. It is a stunning Riad in a great location and the staff are all so lovely. They can’t do enough for you. We would love to come back to Marrakech and this is the only place we would consider staying.

This boutique hotel is exceptional. Small, intimate and luxuriously simple. An authentic Moroccan experience secluded in the Medina precinct and only a short walk or taxi from the bustle. This riad has been sympathetically converted leaving all the elements of a traditional (very large!) Moroccan home. With a central garden, pool and multiple roof top lounging and seating areas, the property h...
