Common Complaints

While overwhelmingly positive, a few minor points have been raised:

  • Room Size: Some guests have noted that rooms can be "a tad on the compact side," or "smaller than an inside cabin on a cruise ship" for certain room types.
  • Design and Facilities (infrequent): One less common review suggested that while a five-star hotel, the design was "very average" and internal facilities felt more like a "four-star hotel." This sentiment, however, is an outlier compared to the vast majority of positive feedback.
  • No elevator: The two-story villa structure means there is no elevator, which could be a consideration for some guests with mobility needs. However, the property does offer wheelchair accessible rooms and facilities for disabled guests.

We had a lovely stay here for a mini getaway over the weekend. Staff were so friendly and accommodating, it's a nice quiet area but very handy to great restaurants. The room itself was beautifully appointed, and had everything you need. The bed was extremely comfortable! The included breakfast was served in room and was very delicious (and generously portioned), as was the coffee. We will definit...

Giving a 3-star review for business ethics. I booked a room a long time in advance. In the intervening period the operator of the hotel went out of business. The new operator, despite knowing about my reservation, declined to let me know in advance that I would need to pay again for the room. They waited until we were checking-in to communicate the news... by which time of course it's going to be ...

Total disappointment - buyer beware! Promoted as as boutique hotel with a Superior Suite. Not even 2 chairs in the room, small, no milk in fridge, no evening drinks with hors d'oeuvres as promised inclusions, no yoghurt or chia pudding as promised breakfast inclusions, noisy - old home with no double glazing or insulation between 2 stories. Not value for money and an insult to 5 star standards. C...

Our experience at Hotel Fitzroy was a great way to end our trip to New Zealand. The staff were very attentive and allowed us to check into our room early, and additionally prioritised our breakfast due to an early flight. The decor in our room (Campbell Suite) and the main hotel is fantastic, the bed is super comfortable and the bathroom was spacious and well designed. The hotel is in a great area...

Fantastic hotel, the service was impeccable! Leo was a wonderful host, took care of us and start to finish. And the breakfast was out of this world, more than I could eat, but the best eggs Benedict I’ve had in a long long time. The location of this hotel is ideal, especially as an out-of-town visitor to Auckland. Definitely will stay here again!

Loved our first stay at hotel. Tried to book it again. Website has been down for two weeks. No one answers calls to the hotel and no return calls when we leave messages. Very frustrating. Lovely hotel though.
