2. Key Highlights
Guests consistently rave about several aspects of Eagles Nest:
- Location: Perched on a private ridgeline within a 75-acre estate, the villas offer spectacular 320-degree panoramic views of the Bay of Islands. It's conveniently located just minutes from the historic town of Russell, yet feels entirely secluded. The proximity to Tapeka Point Beach and various hiking trails is also a plus.
- Service: The personalized and attentive service is a recurring theme in guest feedback. Staff are described as "exceptional," "awesome," "friendly," and always responsive to guests' needs, often going above and beyond to make them feel at home. The presence of personal chefs, spa therapists, and a concierge contributes to the feeling of "7-star service and amenities."
- Design & Amenities: The villas are architecturally designed in an eclectic international contemporary style, blending seamlessly with the natural topography. Key amenities that guests love include private heated horizon-edged lap pools (in four of the five villas), private Jacuzzis, home theatre systems, fully equipped gourmet kitchens, and well-stocked provisions of food, wine, and even board games. The Rahimoana Villa, the presidential villa, even offers a Porsche Cayenne for guest use and two theatre systems, one with a 100-inch screen. Eco-friendly products are used, and there's a commitment to sustainability.
- Privacy: Each villa is designed to be a self-contained mini-hotel, ensuring total privacy and an intimate escape, a feature highly valued by guests.
3. Room Quality
The five luxurious villas at Eagles Nest are celebrated for their comfort, exquisite design, and meticulous attention to detail. They offer spacious accommodations with sea or garden views, air-conditioning, and private bathrooms. Each villa includes a balcony, terrace, or patio, providing stunning outdoor living spaces. The interiors are elegant yet informal, featuring original artworks by both New Zealand and international artists. Features like flat-screen TVs, DVD/CD players, home cinema systems with Sky satellite, free WiFi, and well-appointed kitchens are standard. The larger villas, like Rahimoana, offer multiple ensuite bedrooms, fireplaces, and extensive entertainment systems.
4. Dining Experience
While there isn't a central restaurant at Eagles Nest, the dining experience is a significant highlight due to the personalized approach. All villas come with fully equipped gourmet kitchens and are supplied daily with breakfast provisions. However, most guests opt for the services of the resort's resident personal chefs, who prepare custom-designed menus featuring fresh, local ingredients such as freshly caught fish, crayfish, venison, and lamb, all cooked within the guests' private villas. A comprehensive wine cellar with thousands of bottles is also available. Guests have described the breakfast provisions as "great and replenished in full daily."
5. Service & Staff
The staff at Eagles Nest are consistently praised for their exceptional hospitality, friendliness, and willingness to cater to every guest's need. 6. Location & Accessibility
Eagles Nest is situated on the Tapeka tip of the Russell Peninsula in the beautiful Bay of Islands. It offers easy access to the historic town of Russell (Kororāreka), which is just a five-minute drive away. Nearby attractions include Tapeka Point Beach, Flagstaff Hill, and Russell Museum. The property is approximately a 45-minute drive from Kerikeri Airport, which includes a short 5-minute car ferry trip to the Russell peninsula. Bush walking and mountain biking are also popular land-based activities.
7. Value & Pricing
Eagles Nest is positioned as an exclusive and indulgent luxury experience. While no exact current Michelin Key pricing is available from the search results, it has been historically noted as some of the most expensive rental accommodation in New Zealand, with a single night potentially costing a five-figure sum in NZD. One source indicated an average room price of $1053, significantly higher than the average hotel room in the Bay of Islands. Despite the high cost, guests often express that the unparalleled service, amenities, and overall experience make it worth the expense, with many highlighting the "excellent value for money" received given the luxury provided.
8. Common Complaints
No recurring issues or significant criticisms were explicitly highlighted in the extensive guest reviews and property descriptions. The overwhelming sentiment is one of extreme satisfaction and praise, indicating that any minor issues are either swiftly resolved or do not detract from the overall luxury experience. One anecdotal comment mentioned the pool being "a little chillier than anticipated" before quickly moving to the Jacuzzi, suggesting minor, easily remedied preferences rather than significant complaints. The property's design as individual villas means there are no shared public spaces, which might be a consideration for some, but is framed as a benefit for privacy.

Incredible place with the most beautiful views! Stayed in the first light villa which had everything you could need and more. Truly sad to leave. The chef was amazing and the massage I had was the most relaxing I’ve ever had. The bbq was brilliant and especially loved all of the extra treats that filled the cupboards and fridge! Thank you for a wonderful stay

We stayed in the First Light Villa, it was stunning and very private (even with all the glass) Effective communication throughout our stay, staff are extremely accommodating. The views from bed are unbeatable! The food provisions, dinner arrangement transport and special touches were very much appreciated.

Fabulous rooms, well configured and the breakfast provisions were enough for a light dinner as well. I was particularly impressed with the fact that they provided a selection of 5 different coffee pods with 6 of each as well as grounds for plunger both caffeinated and decaffeinated so plenty of coffee for a coffee head like me.

Five (million) stars... And that's just when you look up. The accommodation is outstanding, the staff are amazing and the location is stunning. We stayed in the First Light Villa, with great views across the bay from your hot tub during the day and no light pollution for stargazing at night. We are very sad to leave this little piece of paradise behind...

Eagles Nest has very exotic homes with amazing construction, design, and location; and you can RENT THEM! If travelling to New Zealand, or if you live there, we recommend to take a few days at Eagle’s Nest and you’ll have memories to last a lifetime. We had a meal cooked in-house for us. The chef was content to cook and not engage us, but we felt chatty and had a great conversation with a fascina...
