Granbell Hotel Akasaka, Tokyo: A Michelin Key Selected Stay

Granbell Hotel Akasaka, a recipient of the prestigious Michelin Key, offers a very special stay experience in Tokyo, lauded for its unique charm and value. This designer hotel consistently earns high praise for its prime location, dedicated staff, and stylish yet comfortable accommodations.

1. Overall Rating & Sentiment

The general consensus among guests is overwhelmingly positive, with an impressive overall rating of 8.5 out of 10. Guests frequently praise the hotel for its excellent value for money, reflected in a rating of 8.2 for this category. Many describe their stays as very pleasant, highlighting the professional and friendly staff.

2. Key Highlights

Guests consistently love the hotel's central location, its cleanliness, and the helpfulness of the staff. The modern and well-equipped facilities also receive high praise. The design aesthetic is noted as high-quality and calm, with graphic elements adding a playful feel. Free in-room WiFi and complimentary amenities like unlimited water bottles, tea, and coffee are appreciated perks.

3. Room Quality

Rooms at Granbell Hotel Akasaka are described as clean, well-equipped, and comfortable, featuring Simmons beds. While some standard rooms can be on the smaller side—a common characteristic of Tokyo hotels—they are designed to feel cozy rather than claustrophobic with thoughtful lighting. Higher-category suites are more substantial and exceedingly comfortable. Guests often commend the excellent water pressure and consistent hot water in the bathrooms. The decor is styled with colors suitable for the city to enhance guest comfort, projecting a sedate and grown-up image with a "chocolate-and-cream luxury" feel. Some older reviews mention issues like poor lighting or a strong mildew smell in certain rooms, and dusty air vents.

4. Dining Experience

The hotel offers a complimentary light breakfast, which typically includes breads and cereals, available for guests to take as much as they like. While the food and dining options within the hotel received a slightly lower rating of 6.6, guests often rave about the abundance of nearby dining options. An on-site British cuisine steakhouse, 銀座のステーキ 赤坂店, is available for lunch, dinner, and happy hour.

5. Service & Staff

The staff at Granbell Hotel Akasaka are consistently highlighted as outstanding: professional, friendly, considerate, and always ready to assist. Many guests specifically thank the front desk for their kindness and helpfulness. The service is often described as quick and unobtrusive, catering efficiently to business needs.

6. Location & Accessibility

The hotel boasts an exceptional and very central location in Akasaka, widely considered one of its strongest assets. It is conveniently situated about a 2-minute walk from Akasaka-Mitsuke Station, providing easy access to major subway lines that can take you anywhere in Tokyo. The neighborhood is lively with many local eateries and convenience stores, yet the rooms remain quiet. Ginza, Shibuya, Shinjuku, and Aoyama are all within easy reach. An airport limousine bus stop is also nearby, offering seamless airport transfers.

7. Value & Pricing

Granbell Hotel Akasaka is praised for offering excellent value for money, with guests consistently finding its amenities and services affordable. The hotel provides good rates, especially for its central location. While specific price ranges were not provided, the "value here is probably in the more affordable end of things" when compared to Tokyo's classic business hotels.

8. Common Complaints

While generally positive, some guests have noted that standard rooms can be small, which is typical for Tokyo hotels. A few older reviews mentioned dimly lit rooms, limited power outlets, a strong mildew smell, and dusty air vents in some rooms, making for a less pleasant environment if spending extended time in the room. The breakfast, while complimentary, is described as simple, mainly consisting of breads and cereals.

Very central and well-connected location surrounded by convenience stores and amazing restaurants. The unlimited water bottles, tea, and coffee were a great service, but the rooms smelled strongly of mildew and were very cramped. The carpet was also old and air vents very dusty. Great if you don’t intend to spend a lot of time chilling in the hotel, but my partner was sick on this trip and it was...

Wonderful hotel. Very central and lots of offerings to guests to make the stay so seamless! Loved the location as well, very central and great lively neighborhood (but rooms were quiet). Don’t sleep on the sushi place right next to the hotel. It’s open until 1 am.

Hotel location is close to convenience store and metro. The staff is friendly as well. But the room is small and the hotel is a bit old as well. Overall speaking, it is still acceptable! It is safe for solo travelers as well

Standard business hotel with deeply mediocre rooms. Very poorly lit with only one single outlet and strangely designed - my room only had a glass wall separating the bathroom from the room and only a curtain separating the shower area. Cannot beat the location though - generally safe, so close to well-connected stations and surrounded with various eateries. But I did appreciate the free water and ...

Decent 4 night stay in this hotel. Room was nicely cleaned everyday as per request. Good sized room for something in tokyo of this price. Breakfast was provided in the morning at the lobby. Simple breads and beverages. Location was also good because it was convenient to go to popular locations like Ginza, Shibuya, Shinjuku, Ueno, Asakusa etc. on the ginza and Marunouchi lines. Short few mins walk ...

We were disappointed with our stay at this hotel. First impression after taking the elevator up to our room, the general area was dark and uninviting. When we got into our room there was a strong moldy-musty odour. The bed sheets were made and new towels were provided, but the overall room was dirty. The carpet was visibly not vacuumed, there was still food crumbs left from the previous person. T...
