Expert Review: Andaz Vienna Am Belvedere

The Andaz Vienna Am Belvedere, a Michelin Key One-Keys property, consistently receives high praise for its modern design, exceptional service, and unique amenities, making it a highly regarded choice for travelers to Vienna.

1. Overall Rating & Sentiment

The general consensus for Andaz Vienna Am Belvedere is overwhelmingly positive, with guests frequently describing their stays as "excellent" or "great". The hotel is lauded for its blend of contemporary style and Austrian hospitality. Despite some minor criticisms, the overall sentiment is that it offers a memorable and high-quality experience.

2. Key Highlights

Guests particularly appreciate the genuinely friendly and attentive staff, the fun and sophisticated contemporary design in both public areas and rooms, and the significant recognition offered to elite members, especially Hyatt Globalists. The hotel's breakfast receives high marks, and the Aurora rooftop bar is often cited as an "epic" spot with panoramic city views. Complimentary non-alcoholic minibar items and a happy hour for guests are also frequently highlighted as delightful extras.

3. Room Quality

The rooms at Andaz Vienna Am Belvedere are noted for being spacious, modern, and beautifully designed with wooden floors and contemporary art pieces. Standard amenities include 55-inch flat-screen TVs, Illy coffee machines, electric kettles, plush robes, slippers, and effective blackout curtains. The complimentary minibar, a brand standard, typically includes water, Austrian Almdudler soda, and Manner chocolate wafer cookies. While many find the rooms comfortable, some guests have commented on mattresses being firmer than preferred and pillows being flat. A recurring criticism concerns the bathroom layout, with some finding the transparent shower doors and obscure glass toilet doors to compromise privacy. Inconsistent housekeeping has also been mentioned by some reviewers.

4. Dining Experience

The hotel's main restaurant, Eugen21, serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner, offering modern Austrian cuisine inspired by Prince Eugen's travels. Breakfast, available as a buffet with à la carte options, is frequently described as "outstanding" or "solid," featuring a wide variety of traditional staples, cured meats, cheeses, and an impressive pastry selection. However, some guests find the hot buffet items to be less impressive than the cold selections, and self-serve coffee is available rather than barista-made. Eugen21 also hosts a complimentary happy hour for guests from 4-6 PM, offering wine, beer, and snacks. The Aurora Rooftop Bar, located on the 16th floor, is a chic Nordic-designed space offering breathtaking panoramic city views, expertly crafted cocktails, and a selection of food. A notable point for planning is that Eugen21 is closed for dinner on Sundays.

5. Service & Staff

The service and staff at Andaz Vienna Am Belvedere consistently receive high praise. Guests frequently describe the team as "genuinely friendly," "attentive," "helpful," and "perfect." Many reviewers highlight staff members going out of their way to ensure a pleasant stay, from warm greetings at check-in to providing local tips and accommodating special requests.

6. Location & Accessibility

The hotel is situated in the newly developed Quartier Belvedere, adjacent to the iconic Belvedere Palace and overlooking its park. Its proximity to Vienna Main Station (Hauptbahnhof) makes it extremely convenient for arrivals from the airport and for accessing public transport. The U1 metro line (Südtiroler Platz/Hauptbahnhof station) and tram lines D and O (Quartier Belvedere station) provide easy connections to major attractions and the city center, typically taking 15-20 minutes. While the location is excellent for transport and exploring the Belvedere area, it is outside Vienna's historic core, meaning the immediate surroundings are quieter, especially in the evenings, and require a short commute to the city's main tourist sights.

7. Value & Pricing

Andaz Vienna Am Belvedere is often considered to offer "excellent value," particularly for those utilizing World of Hyatt points. As a Category 3 Hyatt property, standard rooms can be booked for 9,000-15,000 points per night, with suites requiring more. Cash rates can also be quite reasonable, with prices found starting from approximately $170.51 for a one-night stay for two adults. This value, combined with the hotel's amenities and service, makes it an attractive option.

8. Common Complaints

While generally highly rated, some recurring issues are mentioned by guests. The primary complaint is the hotel's location being a bit removed from the very center of Vienna's historic attractions, which might not suit all tourists. Other criticisms include the firmness of the mattresses and flatness of pillows, inconsistent housekeeping, and some guests finding in-room amenities like toilet paper to be of poor quality. The "complimentary minibar" contents have sometimes been perceived as limited by some guests. Additionally, the design of some bathrooms with transparent or obscure glass doors for the shower and toilet has been a point of contention regarding privacy. Finally, the main restaurant, Eugen21, being closed for dinner on Sundays, can be an unexpected inconvenience for some.

Amazing location, it is about 4 min walk to the main train station. The staff were great and the rooms are modern and clean. Breakfast was very good as well. We have connecting rooms because we have younger children, plenty of space. We were welcomed with some macarons I believed it was due to my Hyatt status and booking with American Express. It was quite tasty. Definitely recommend it.

The Andaz Vienna is a beautiful hotel and a great place to stay. It’s conveniently located just a 3 minute walk from the train station, making getting around incredibly easy. While it’s not directly in the city center, the city is only about two stops away, so it’s a quick and hassle free trip. An ideal spot if you want convenience without the crowds. The rooms are very clean and well maintained, ...

Could not have asked for a better stay in Vienna. Our room was clean, spacious, and beautifully designed, with artwork throughout and complimentary Austrian snacks like Manner wafers and Almdudler soda provided after housekeeping. The staff was friendly and helpful, and delivered a hair straighter to the room after I asked for one. Breakfast was so delicious that I looked forward to it every day! ...

To my surprise, there was still a lot of room for improvement in the service provided by the front desk and housekeeping staff. We arrived very early in the morning. As globalist members, we were allowed to check in at noon, but we arrived later than everyone else. We returned around 5 p.m., more than two hours past the normal check-in time, and the hotel still hadn't arranged a room for us, telli...
