Andaz Munich Schwabinger Tor: A Michelin One-Key Property Offering Modern Luxury and Exceptional Service

The Andaz Munich Schwabinger Tor stands out as a highly-regarded luxury lifestyle hotel in Munich, consistently praised for its modern design, extensive amenities, and particularly, its exceptional staff. As a Michelin One-Key property, it offers a sophisticated experience designed for both leisure and business travelers seeking a blend of local flair and refined comfort.

1. Overall Rating & Sentiment

The general sentiment for Andaz Munich Schwabinger Tor is overwhelmingly positive, with guests frequently describing it as an "excellent," "wonderful," and "fabulous" hotel. Many consider it a top-tier luxury destination, with some even placing it in their personal top ten of five-star hotels globally.

2. Key Highlights

Guests consistently rave about several aspects of the Andaz Munich Schwabinger Tor:

  • Service & Staff: The staff receives widespread acclaim for being exceedingly kind, friendly, efficient, warm, attentive, and genuinely welcoming.
  • Design & Ambiance: The hotel boasts a cool, modern, and stylish design with sophisticated interior details and inspiring art, including a unique pretzel sculpture in the lobby.
  • Spa & Pool: A significant highlight is the impressive two-floor spa and pool complex, considered among the best in Germany. It features an indoor pool with floor-to-ceiling windows offering Munich skyline views, saunas, and steam baths.
  • Dining Options: The diverse culinary offerings, especially the breakfast, are frequently praised for their quality and variety.
  • Room Comfort: Rooms are consistently noted as spacious, modern, and very comfortable.

3. Room Quality

The rooms at Andaz Munich Schwabinger Tor are described as impressively spacious, modern, and pristine. Key features include:

  • Large floor-to-ceiling windows with ample lounge space.
  • Comfortable king-size beds (though one reviewer found them comparatively small for a king).
  • Open-layout bathrooms with lovely walk-in showers and separate toilets.
  • Modern luxuries such as panel-controlled blinds and motorized curtains.
  • A large 55-inch TV with Google Chromecast.
  • Complimentary mini-bar stocked with soft drinks and snacks, along with an Illy espresso machine.
  • Plenty of power and USB plugs throughout the room and a large, three-section closet. Some minor criticisms include the "environmentally-conscious" shared bottle toiletries, which some found inconvenient and prone to sliding off the shower ledge, and occasional issues with Illy espresso pods not being replenished.

4. Dining Experience

The hotel offers a highly-rated dining experience with several venues:

  • Breakfast: Served in "The Lonely Broccoli" restaurant, breakfast is often described as "exceptional" in both quality and variety, making it one of the best hotel breakfasts many guests have experienced. It includes an elaborate buffet with a vegetable bar, freshly-made nut butter, wheatgrass shots, and specialty coffees, alongside an à la carte menu where eggs can be cooked to order.
  • The Lonely Broccoli: This main restaurant is a "Modern Meat House" specializing in charcoal-grilled and slow-roasted marinated meats, with an emphasis on organic and locally sourced products.
  • M'Uniqo Rooftop Bar: Offers 360-degree views of the city and towards the Alps.
  • Bicicletta: An upscale coffee bar serving light snacks, smoothies, freshly pressed juices, sandwiches, and pastries.
  • Café M: A deli offering additional options. Room service is also available, noted for being quick, delicious, and reasonably priced.

5. Service & Staff

The service at Andaz Munich Schwabinger Tor is a consistent standout. Guests frequently highlight the staff's warmth, helpfulness, efficiency, and genuine care, with many interactions described as thoughtful and welcoming. Specific individuals across reception, breakfast, housekeeping, and the spa have been commended for their outstanding hospitality and pride in their work. While generally excellent, some isolated reports mention slower check-in times due to limited staff and occasional unresponsiveness from guest services. There were also instances where elite benefits weren't proactively offered, and housekeeping policies (especially during the pandemic) were not always clearly communicated, requiring guests to specifically request service.

6. Location & Accessibility

The hotel is situated in the Schwabinger Tor neighborhood, a lively district between the Olympic Stadium and the English Garden, known for its fashionable shops, restaurants, and bars. While not in the immediate city center, it's considered a "cool neighborhood" with excellent accessibility to public transportation. A tram station is located directly outside the hotel, and the Münchner Freiheit subway station is about a 10-minute walk away, providing easy U-Bahn access to central Munich. The hotel is part of a modern complex that includes offices, retail, and other dining options. For accessibility, the hotel is new construction, featuring a street-level lobby, wide doorways, wheelchair-accommodating elevators, and three fully accessible rooms with specific features like lower beds, stability bars, and roll-in showers.

7. Value & Pricing

The Andaz Munich Schwabinger Tor is positioned as a luxury property and is considered one of the more expensive hotels in Munich. Cash rates can typically range from approximately $270 to over $500 per night. However, many guests feel it offers an "incredible price/value ratio" for the premium experience provided. As a Category 5 World of Hyatt property, standard rooms can be booked for 20,000 points per night, with suites going for 40,000 points, making it a good value for points redemptions. The hotel is also part of Amex Fine Hotels + Resorts, which offers additional perks such as upgrades, property credits, complimentary breakfast, and late checkout for eligible cardholders.

8. Common Complaints

While guest feedback is largely positive, some recurring issues include:

  • The use of shared, "environmentally-conscious" toiletries in the rooms and ill-fitting shower ledges.
  • Intermittent issues with the spa's steam bath being out of order or the sauna floor being uncomfortably hot.
  • The gym's equipment selection has been noted as not overly impressive, and a Peloton bike was reported as non-functional during one stay.
  • Illy espresso pods in rooms were not always replenished.
  • Isolated instances of slow check-in processes or guest services being unresponsive by phone.
  • Miscommunication regarding housekeeping services, particularly during periods affected by COVID-19 policies.
  • One review mentioned the absence of a hot tub in the otherwise excellent pool area.
  • Some guests found the "Andaz concept" of service, at times, a bit "too cool" or felt information wasn't always proactively shared.

Exceptional service from house keeping, Lonely Broccoli restaurant, the roof top bar, the reception, and those manning the meeting rooms all around. Everyone was so pleasant and felt genuine in trying to be helpful going above and beyond. The room has an interesting layout with a TV in between the bed and a comfortable lounge area. The curtains were electric and can be controlled with some butt...

I was traveling for business. And this hotel will be my default in the future. Spacious, quiet, and comfy rooms. Nice Spa area. One of the best breakfasts at this price class. Fast public transport/taxi connection to the city center.

Fantastic hotel - excellent service from the very friendly and attentive staff, very modern, well-equipped bedrooms, albeit with a slightly unusual layout and unnecessarily complicated lighting system. We had such a great stay at Andaz Munich over Christmas. The hotel is beautiful and had easy access to the trains to get into the city center. The room was spacious, the pool was relaxing and the free happy hour at 1700 for guests was a welcome surprise. We also enjoyed our charcuterie board and drinks at the rooftop bar. The breakfast was also phenomenal and I apologize for not including pictures...

Have stayed here before and the suite we booked was really lovely, so it pains me to say I will not stay here again based on my recent experience with their very unprofessional and rude spa customer service staff in December. As a globalist I try to give my business to Hyatt properties whenever it is reasonable to do so. I booked a 60 minute massage here for my partner and I, each of us paid 120 e...
