Expert Review: The Flushing Meadows Hotel
The Flushing Meadows Hotel in Munich, Germany, a Michelin Key Selected property, is highly regarded for its distinctive design, vibrant atmosphere, and prime location. It consistently receives positive feedback from guests, making it a popular choice for travelers seeking a unique boutique hotel experience.
1. Overall Rating & Sentiment
The hotel generally receives a "Good" to "Very Good" overall rating, with scores around 7.8 out of 10 on platforms like Booking.com, based on over 500 reviews, and 7.6 out of 10 from verified reviews on Agoda. Guests often describe it as a "boutique hotel with a very funky vibe," "modern and clean," and a "cool, calm hotel." The general sentiment is highly positive, with many appreciating its unique character and lively ambiance.
2. Key Highlights
Guests consistently laud several aspects of The Flushing Meadows. The popular rooftop bar with its impressive city views is a significant draw, often described as a vibrant social hub. The unique design of each of the 16 individually decorated rooms, often inspired by artists and designers, is another major highlight. Its super convenient and excellent location in Munich's vibrant Glockenbach district is frequently praised. Finally, the friendly, helpful, and accommodating staff are often mentioned as a key factor contributing to a great stay.
3. Room Quality
The Flushing Meadows Hotel offers 16 individually designed studios and lofts, each with a distinct personality. Rooms often feature reinforced concrete ceilings over four meters high, oversized floor-to-ceiling windows, and natural mattresses by Coco-Mat for comfort. Amenities include air conditioning, flat-screen TVs, Nespresso coffee machines with Dallmayr Capsa, and complimentary mineral water. Bathrooms are well-designed with high-end Vola fixtures, heated floors, separate toilets, showers, hairdryers, bath sheets, and organic care products from Walachei. Some rooms, particularly the Penthouses, boast spacious terraces with lovely views over the neighborhood and sometimes even the Alps.
4. Dining Experience
The hotel offers a "business breakfast" served daily in its 4th-floor rooftop bar, featuring fresh croissants, homemade marmalade, various juices, and Dallmayr coffee. While some guests note it as a "small breakfast" or a "little 'breakfast' offer," the quality of the croissants is often appreciated. The rooftop bar also functions as a lounge, serving classic and selected cocktail creations in the evenings, with a fireplace for colder days. Numerous restaurants, bars, and shops are within a 5-minute walk of the hotel, providing ample dining alternatives.
5. Service & Staff
The service at The Flushing Meadows Hotel is consistently highlighted as "above and beyond," with staff described as "super friendly and helpful," "quick and personable," and "accommodating." Guests appreciate the warm welcome, sometimes including a local beer upon check-in, and the staff's willingness to assist with requests like early check-ins and local recommendations. While the main front office operates until 5 pm, the bar team takes over check-ins and guest inquiries until midnight, maintaining a casual yet efficient approach.
6. Location & Accessibility
The hotel boasts an "excellent" and "super convenient" location in Munich's vibrant Glockenbach district. It's just 400 meters (about 1312 feet) from Viktualienmarkt and the Old Town, and approximately a 10-minute walk to Marienplatz. Public transport is incredibly accessible, with Fraunhoferstraße Underground Station directly outside the hotel, offering easy connections throughout the city and to the Messe München trade fair. The central location also means guests are within a few hundred meters of various shops, cafes, and bars.
7. Value & Pricing
The Flushing Meadows Hotel is considered a 4-star property. While "Value for money" ratings vary slightly (7.5 on Booking.com, 6.2 on Agoda), guests often feel the unique experience and prime location justify the cost. Room prices start around €190 per night, and it's suggested that booking in advance or during the off-season can secure better deals. A €100 deposit is pre-authorized on credit cards upon check-in.
8. Common Complaints
While generally well-received, some recurring issues noted by guests include the relatively "small breakfast" or the limited "breakfast" offering, which is clearly communicated as croissants, coffee, and juices. Additionally, due to the popularity of the rooftop bar, some guests have mentioned potential noise in the evenings and mornings, particularly for rooms located near the bar or attracting a "younger crowd." While pets are allowed, there is an additional charge for them. Parking is available but limited and incurs an additional charge.

Great spot in the heart of Munich. Easily walk able with many restaurants and pubs nearby. The bar on the top floor was great and all the staff were friendly and helpful as well. Would definitely stay again.

This would have been a great place to stay. However there was no hot water for the whole of the time I was there, 3 nights. I was refunded for part of the stay and given a late check out but it definitely has made me think twice before staying again. Online communication before the stay was almost non existent. When you arrive there is no clear signage for the hotel, its several floors up and no c...

No hot water and constant sounds from the toilet. They promised a compensation, but does not answer my email. I’ve asked Amex GBT to remove this as a recommended hotel for businesses.

Rooftop bar overlooking an Innenhof of Munich apartments. Overpriced drinks, tight seating, and the worst of Munich bar staff. Booked here for 40 people for drinks. Staff were overwhelmed, rude, arrogant, and unpleasant. Was so bad we left for a different venue hours before we planned to. Don’t give these people your money. I cannot believe this place has 4.3 stars currently. It’s either Munich f...

To start with room I had to climb ladder to climb into bed, with wobbly handrail on one side. Middle of the room hammock random. Bathroom shower not the best set up. Overall room was just not comfortable. Bar first morning opened on time with no breakfast served and second morning didn’t open fill 8:20 and was late setting it up. Cleaners start with 7-8 am which is very loud in the room if tryin...

I stayed here a few years ago and was arriving in the evening. Was trying to arrange getting into hotel all day and was told if arriving after a certain time there was a key safe box to get in as they have no reception. When at the airport my ...
