Expert Review: A Room at the Beach
A Room at the Beach: A Michelin-Key Selected Hamptons Retreat
A Room at the Beach, a Michelin Key Selected property in Bridgehampton, offers guests a unique blend of relaxed elegance and five-star luxury, transforming a classic roadside motel into a thoughtfully curated boutique experience. The general consensus among guests is overwhelmingly positive, highlighting the property's charming design, exceptional amenities, and personalized service.
1. Overall Rating & Sentiment
"A Room at the Beach" consistently receives high praise, often described as an "effortlessly cool boutique retreat" that provides a tranquil and luxurious escape in the Hamptons. Guests frequently laud its ability to blend the simplicity of a motel with the indulgences of a high-end stay, creating an atmosphere that feels more like a private home. The property is noted for its "barefoot luxury" and "perfectly considered" details.
2. Key Highlights
Guests consistently rave about several key aspects:
- Design & Ambiance: The property's beautifully renovated grounds, complete with towering Redwoods and a country house garden, create an "Instagram-perfect" setting. The interiors are described as thoughtfully designed, unique, and cozy, avoiding an overdone aesthetic.
- Amenities: The hotel boasts an array of luxurious amenities, including an outdoor pool, a cedar-lined sauna, a fire pit for evening s'mores, and lawn games like croquet. Complimentary bicycle rentals and beach passes with full setups (chairs, umbrellas, games) further enhance the guest experience. An "Airstream Spa" with visiting facialists is also a unique offering.
- Attention to Detail: Comfort is found in the details, from Frette linens and robes to Serena & Lily touches, full-sized D.S. & Durga toiletries, and personal Nespresso machines. Minibars are thoughtfully curated with selections from the upscale L&W Market, which shares ownership with the hotel, and include complimentary drinks and locally sourced snacks.
3. Room Quality
The ten rooms at "A Room at the Beach" are meticulously designed for a sense of ease and comfort. While some reviews mention that "most rooms are very small," the clever floor plan, utilizing slat walls to separate the bathroom area and flush-mounted TVs, maximizes space and creates a circular flow. Standard features include air conditioning, in-room safes, hairdryers, and Smart TVs with cable channels. Eight rooms feature rainfall showers with Ann Sacks tile, while the two suites offer additional luxuries like spa tubs, heated floors, and marble finishes. Select suites also boast Hästens beds and a Hästens pillow menu for optimized sleep. Each room typically opens onto a garden-facing terrace with seating.
4. Dining Experience
"A Room at the Beach" does not feature a full-service restaurant on-site. However, it provides a complimentary breakfast that includes coffee, pastries, and fruit, with the option for in-room service. Guests can also utilize several BBQ facilities located in the garden for evening cook-ups. The gourmet minibars, stocked with selections from the upscale L&W Market, and complimentary drinks and snacks offer convenient and high-quality in-room dining options. Numerous excellent dining establishments are also available just a few blocks away in Bridgehampton's village center.
5. Service & Staff
The hospitality at "A Room at the Beach" is consistently highlighted as exceptional, with staff members receiving high praise for their attentiveness, friendliness, and accommodating nature. Guests have reported receiving "bar none the best hospitality" and commend the staff for going above and beyond, even assisting with last-minute travel conflicts. A text concierge service is also available for guest convenience.
6. Location & Accessibility
The hotel is centrally located in Bridgehampton, on Montauk Highway (Route 27), placing it conveniently between East Hampton and Southampton. It is just a few blocks, approximately 0.3 miles, from Bridgehampton's charming town center, which offers a variety of restaurants and shops. While the name might suggest direct beach access, the property is about 2.5 to 2.9 miles (a 5 to 6-minute drive) from the Hamptons' beaches, including Ocean Road Beach and Sagg Main Beach. The hotel provides parking passes for Sagg Main Beach on a first-come, first-served basis, as well as complimentary bicycles for getting to the beach. The Bridgehampton LIRR Station is less than a 20-minute walk away, and the Jitney stop is a ten-minute walk, with the train station a fifteen-minute walk. East Hampton Airport (HTO) is approximately a 7-minute drive.
7. Value & Pricing
As a Michelin Key Selected property in the Hamptons, "A Room at the Beach" is considered a luxurious destination, and its pricing reflects this. While specific daily rates can vary, average prices for a night have been found to range from $376 to $389, with some rates going higher. The high season in August typically sees an increase in price. Despite the high cost, guests generally feel that the elevated experience, luxurious amenities, and exceptional service justify the expense.
8. Common Complaints
While reviews are largely positive, a few recurring observations have been noted:
- Room Size: Some guests have mentioned that "most rooms are very small."
- Traffic Noise: As the property is located on Montauk Highway, some guests have reported being able to hear traffic from the front porch areas and front grounds, particularly from rooms facing the highway. This is a common consideration for properties situated on busy arteries in the Hamptons.

I’ve been staying at A Room at the Beach since it opened and it’s been a joy watching it constantly improve in quality and elegance. Each room is stocked with the comfiest robes and softest slippers. Each room has its own back garden, intentionally planted to look natural while also providing privacy. And each room has seating in the front, where you can sit and enjoy the property’s majestic redw...

A spontaneous, last-minute girls’ trip turned into something truly unforgettable. From the moment we arrived, I felt a sense of awe—and by the time we left, I felt completely restored. This stay gave me exactly what I didn’t even realize I needed. A room by the beach—there is only one word to describe it: magical. Every detail, from arrival to departure, was flawless. I’ve been traveling my entire adult life. From hostels to high rises and everything in between. My experience at ARATB was bar none the best hospitality I’ve ever received. They accommodated some last minute travel conflicts and helped me make it to my friend wedding in the nick of time! The rooms are perfectly decorated to feel unique and cozy but not overdone. The floor plan is extremely clever ...

This place is an outright gouge. Also that review below is definitely fake. Overall, it has the level of comfort of an airplane bathroom. It's loud (the place is right on montauk highway) and the photos do not really give you an idea of how its laid out and how far the rooms are from the street. They have windows in the doors to the rooms which have outdoor lights pouring in which do not shut ...

I would give this hotel 1 million stars if I could. Me and my family just stayed here for 5 days and we had the most amazing time. Not only is the property absolutely stunning… the staff is so friendly+kind. They offer free coffee+L&W pastries in the morning. The location is fantastic. We would go to The Golden Pear for breakfast and Almond for dinner. My son had so much fun playing under the red...
