Hotel 50 Bowery, a Michelin Key Selected property in New York City, consistently receives high praise for its unique blend of modern luxury and deep cultural immersion within the vibrant Chinatown neighborhood. Guests frequently highlight its exceptional location, thoughtful design, and dedicated service as standout features.
Overall Rating & Sentiment
Hotel 50 Bowery generally garners a very positive sentiment, with high ratings across booking platforms, often exceeding 8.5 out of 10. Travelers describe it as a clean, updated, and comfortable property, with many expressing a desire to return. The hotel is appreciated for its ability to feel both upscale and accessible, seamlessly blending Eastern and Western influences.
Key Highlights
Guests consistently love several aspects of Hotel 50 Bowery:
- Location: Its prime spot in Chinatown, offering easy access to Little Italy, SoHo, and the Lower East Side, is a major draw.
- Design & Ambiance: The hotel's modern aesthetic, artistic elements, and integration of local Chinese culture are frequently commended. This includes artwork in rooms and a gallery curated by the Museum of Chinese in America on the second floor.
- Rooftop Bar (The Crown): The 21st-floor rooftop bar is a significant highlight, offering creative cocktails and breathtaking panoramic views of the New York City skyline and the Manhattan Bridge.
- Service: The staff's friendly, professional, and helpful demeanor is a recurring theme in positive reviews.
- Amenities: Thoughtful touches like in-room garment steamers, quality bath amenities, and complimentary coffee/tea in the second-floor living room are appreciated.
Room Quality
The 229 rooms and suites at Hotel 50 Bowery are described as sleek, modern, and comfortable. They typically feature light-colored wood floors, crisp white bedding, and original artwork, bringing splashes of color. Many rooms boast floor-to-ceiling windows offering panoramic views of the Lower East Side, Manhattan Bridge, or the city skyline. Standard King rooms are around 260 square feet, which is considered a reasonable size for NYC. Bathrooms often include rainfall showers and designer toiletries by brands like Lefroy Brooks or Jonathan Adler. In-room amenities usually include a flat-screen TV, mini-fridge (often empty for personal use), a safe, comfortable bathrobes, and a clothes steamer. While most find the beds comfortable, a few guests have noted that the beds were not the most comfortable.
Dining Experience
Hotel 50 Bowery features The Crown, a sumptuous indoor/outdoor rooftop bar on the 21st floor, where guests can enjoy classic and creative cocktails alongside seasonally inspired appetizers. However, the hotel does not have a full-service breakfast restaurant on-site. Breakfast is available via room service, sometimes ordered from a local restaurant like Cafe MishMosh, with a daily credit provided for guests with certain benefits. Some guests have reported issues with the breakfast ordering process, including the inability to pre-order, occasional shortages of popular items (like egg platters or overnight oats), and a lack of fruit options on the menu.
Service & Staff
The service at Hotel 50 Bowery is consistently highlighted as outstanding. Staff members are frequently described as professional, polite, helpful, friendly, and accommodating. Many guests report that the team goes the extra mile to ensure a comfortable stay, offering early check-in or late checkout when possible and being quick to address any minor issues.
Location & Accessibility
The hotel's location at 50 Bowery is a significant asset, placing it directly in the heart of Chinatown. This allows for immediate access to diverse shops, markets, and restaurants. It's also just steps from Little Italy and a short walk to popular neighborhoods like SoHo, Nolita, and the Lower East Side. Major attractions like the Brooklyn Bridge and City Hall are within a 15-minute walk. Public transportation is highly accessible, with Grand St. Station (Chrystie St.) and Canal St. Station (Lafayette St.) just a 5-6 minute walk away, making it easy to explore other parts of Manhattan.
Value & Pricing
Hotel 50 Bowery is often considered a reasonable and good value option for a Manhattan hotel, especially given its quality and location. Cash rates can range from approximately $160 to $300 per night. However, a destination or resort fee, typically around $12-$35 plus tax, is often charged per night. This fee covers amenities such as coffee/tea in the living room and gym access, and may be waived for World of Hyatt Globalist members or those booking with points.
Common Complaints
While overwhelmingly positive, some recurring criticisms include:
- Bed Comfort: A few guests have found the beds not as comfortable as expected.
- Street Noise: Due to its central location, some light sleepers have noted street noise as a potential concern.
- Breakfast Experience: The lack of a dedicated breakfast restaurant and the process for ordering room service breakfast, including occasional item shortages or menu limitations (e.g., lack of fruit), have been points of minor dissatisfaction for some.
- Destination Fee: The mandatory nightly destination fee, though common in NYC, can be a point of contention for guests not exempt from it.

Absolute wonderful staff here! I can't say enough about them. First, when we arrived they heard it was my husband's first time and placed us on the 20th floor. Which, was very nice. But did you know their rooftop bar is a BAR that plays loud, thumpy bass music, well past midnight? Lol we didn't. We tried to last in it, only made it two nights. Then, we moved rooms. Second, when we moved rooms, we...

The location of this hotel is amazing! If you want easy access to the best restaurants in Chinatown, this is the place to be! The hotel room itself was quiet and very clean. We had a great view from the 20th floor. I really liked the inside decor as well - It made me forget this was a Hyatt property. I've stayed at different Hyatt's & Hiltons in midtown & upper Manhattan over the years, but this ...

I spent one night at Hotel 50 Bowery and had a really wonderful experience. The hotel is perfectly located right at the famous intersection of Canal Street and Bowery — the very spot immortalized in The Lumineers’ song “Ho Hey” (“I’d be standing on Canal and Bowery…”). It’s also directly across from a bus stop, which made getting around super convenient. It would have been easier if the metro stat...

I cannot say enough positive things about my experience at this hotel. From the moment I walked in, Jordan was absolutely amazing in accommodating me in every way possible. That evening, I spent time in the Rooftop Bar where I was given amazing service and welcomed warmly. The view from my room was absolutely unmatched. As I stepped out for the evening, Sig made sure I had great suggestions on whe...

This is my 3rd or 4th time staying here. My family and I love staying at this hotel. The hotel is very clean, convenient location to check out so many great places to eat, and great staff. The woman, May at the reception desk was very courteous and friendly. We got an earlier than expected check-in and a great view of the Manhattan Bridge from our room. I highly recommend this hotel.

Had a very pleasant stay. We booked a king size bed room. It was very clean with relatively modern finishes. Hotel staff was also very friendly when it comes to supplying extra toiletries, giving out waters and local directions. A very pleasant stay overall. An improvement that the hotel could possibly make is maintaining cleaner corridors. When I first took the elevator up and was walking through...
