The general consensus highlights a peaceful, luxurious, and comfortable experience.

Guests consistently laud The Stavrand for its intuitive and authentic service, its idyllic location surrounded by redwoods and close to the Russian River, and its beautifully curated design. Complimentary offerings such as a hot plated breakfast, an evening aperitif, and s'mores kits for firepit gatherings are particularly cherished. The property also provides excellent amenities like an outdoor swimming pool, a hot tub, free bicycles, kayaks, and various lawn games, fostering a relaxed and engaging atmosphere. Its pet-friendly policy is another appreciated feature.

3. Room Quality

The 21 unique guest rooms at The Stavrand are fully renovated, blending historic elements with chic, modern styling. Each room offers 5-star comfort and contemporary amenities, including air conditioning, bathrobes, a minibar, and complimentary high-speed WiFi. Many rooms feature private patios or balconies, fireplaces (some gas-powered), and luxurious freestanding tubs or outdoor cedar hot tubs, providing an elevated sense of privacy and indulgence. The emphasis on comfort is evident with Tempur-Pedic beds and premium bedding. Design elements include custom artwork, warm-hued wood furnishings, and rich accent colors, creating an inviting and stylish ambiance.

4. Dining Experience

The dining experience at The Stavrand is a significant highlight, with a focus on locally sourced, seasonal Californian cuisine. A gourmet hot plated breakfast is included with the stay, offering a choice of three complimentary entrees alongside local Black Oak coffee. While some premium breakfast options may incur an additional charge, the quality and presentation are consistently praised. The modern, romantic restaurant also serves intimate dinners with wine pairings on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays, exclusively for hotel guests. An evening aperitif from 5-6 PM offers a selection of local wines and garden-inspired cocktails. S'mores kits for the fire pits further enhance the culinary and social experience.

6. Location & Accessibility

The Stavrand is beautifully situated in Guerneville, within the picturesque Russian River Valley of Sonoma County. Its location amidst majestic redwoods provides a tranquil and romantic setting. While a "path to town" exists, allowing for a 10-20 minute walk to downtown Guerneville, some guests advise caution due to a lack of shoulder on the road. The hotel offers free on-site parking and complimentary bicycles, making it easy to explore the surrounding area. It's conveniently close to attractions like Armstrong Redwoods State Park, numerous wineries, and the rugged Sonoma Coast.

7. Value & Pricing

Rates for The Stavrand typically start around $349-$400 per night. Guests generally perceive the value to be good to excellent, particularly considering the included gourmet breakfast, evening aperitif, and access to a range of amenities and activities such as the pool, hot tub, and complimentary bikes and kayaks. While some reviews acknowledge the price point is high, they often conclude that the overall experience, luxurious comfort, and attentive service make it worthwhile.

8. Common Complaints

While overwhelmingly positive, a few recurring criticisms have been noted. Some guests expressed disappointment or confusion regarding the breakfast, with a few expecting a fully included gourmet meal and finding certain enticing options were priced extra or that the overall offering was not as gourmet as anticipated. Isolated instances of less enthusiastic greetings or a lack of assistance with luggage upon arrival have also been mentioned. The use of styrofoam cups for hot drinks in common areas was a minor point of critique for one guest. Furthermore, the dinner service is not available daily, only on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays, which can be a disappointment for guests planning to dine at the hotel on other evenings. Lastly, the walk to downtown Guerneville has been described as potentially unsafe due to the lack of a shoulder on the road.

My wife and I (plus our 2 large dogs) stay here for New Years. It was an outstanding experience. The location is conveniently located near the town of Guerneville. Our larger than normal room included a hot tub. The hotel is quiet, clean, and the service was wonderful. We had new years eve dinner here too. The dinner was a 5 star experience. We plan to come back when the weather is sunny.

After a long day of travel it was such a pleasure to be warmly greeted by such a gracious staff. The fire was going, wine was offered and our heavy bags were lifted from our car and carried to our room. Every moment at this charming hotel felt like a combination of being a guest in a fabulous home and a restful Four Seasons retreat. The meals were delicious, the shower, hot tub, bed and closet spa...

The food, service, and atmosphere were all phenomenal. We walked to downtown for dinner, visited shops and antique stores, made a day trip to the coast, and read books by the outdoor fire pits. Special thanks for Carter & ...
