Expert Review: The Lodhi

The Lodhi, New Delhi, a distinguished One Michelin Key property, consistently earns high praise as a luxurious urban retreat, offering a serene escape amidst the bustling Indian capital. Its unique blend of contemporary design, exceptional amenities, and personalized service contributes to its strong reputation.

1. Overall Rating & Sentiment

The general consensus for The Lodhi is overwhelmingly positive, with guests frequently describing it as a "fabulous hotel" and an "oasis in a chaotic city." It holds a "Superb" rating based on numerous reviews, with high scores for cleanliness, facilities, comfort, and staff. The recent award of One Michelin Key further solidifies its standing for exceptional character, comfort, and service.

2. Key Highlights

Guests consistently laud several aspects of The Lodhi:

  • Exceptional Architecture & Design: The hotel is noted for its striking, serious, and polished architecture, featuring sharply drawn sandstone blocks and an unapologetically contemporary feel, which is then softened by calm interior tones and textures. The design creates an elegant haven of sophisticated calm.
  • Spacious Rooms with Private Plunge Pools: A standout feature is the generously sized rooms and suites, many of which include private plunge pools and expansive balconies. This is a rare luxury for a city hotel and is highly appreciated by guests.
  • World-Class Dining: The presence of Indian Accent, a globally acclaimed restaurant known for its inventive Indian cuisine, is a significant draw. The hotel has also been recognized for its food and drinks.
  • Extensive Wellness and Recreational Facilities: The Lodhi boasts an impressive array of facilities including a 50-meter outdoor lap pool, a state-of-the-art gym, Pilates and spinning studios, squash courts, tennis courts, and a luxurious spa with a traditional Hammam.
  • Tranquil Ambiance: Despite its central location, the hotel is often described as a tranquil retreat, offering a sense of peace and seclusion.

3. Room Quality

The rooms and suites at The Lodhi are celebrated for their immense size, making them some of the most spacious in New Delhi, and possibly among the largest city hotel rooms globally. They are described as smooth, cool, and featuring a 21st-century design with floor-to-ceiling windows offering views of gardens and the cityscape. Interiors incorporate calm tones, light, neutral fabrics, tasteful and understated furniture, shiny carpeted floors, and creamy monochrome stone bathrooms. Many rooms, particularly the original Aman rooms and higher categories, come with large outdoor terraces and private plunge pools, which are meticulously maintained. Lead-in rooms start at around 1350 sq ft. Guests have praised the comfort of the beds, the spacious walk-in dressing rooms, and the inclusion of amenities like air purifiers.

4. Dining Experience

The Lodhi is a renowned culinary destination, housing several excellent restaurants:

  • Indian Accent: This is the hotel's gastronomic highlight, offering inventive Indian cuisine that has received global recognition and awards, including being on the world's 100 best restaurants list since 2015.
  • Elan Restaurant: Serving as the all-day international dining venue, Elan offers regional Indian, Mediterranean, and Southeast Asian cuisine with alfresco seating. Breakfast, which is à la carte rather than a buffet, is served here and is noted as plentiful, catering to dietary restrictions with an emphasis on Indian breakfast.
  • Perbacco: This restaurant specializes in refined contemporary Italian dishes, mentored by Michelin Star Chef Adriano Baldassarre.
  • Safari Lounge: This bar offers cigars and craft cocktails in a wildlife-inspired setting, though one review noted its theme felt out of sync with the rest of the hotel.
  • Pool Cafe: Overlooking the 50-meter pool, this serene bistro-style space offers light lunches, refreshing juices, smoothies, and healthy fare.

The hotel was recognized as the "Number 1 International Hotel for Food and Drinks" by Food & Wine 2024 Global Taste Makers.

5. Service & Staff

Feedback on service and staff is generally positive, with guests frequently describing the staff as professional, helpful, friendly, attentive, and excellent. Guests have highlighted the seamless in-room check-in process and prompt responses to requests. However, some older reviews from 2019 and earlier suggest that while good and friendly, the service might not always reach the "excellent" level expected at a hotel of this caliber, occasionally lacking the warmth and polish found in other top Delhi hotels like the Oberoi or Taj. There were instances of "uneven service levels" and confusion regarding staff roles at breakfast. Despite this, the hotel has shown effective service recovery, such as offering a refund for an air conditioning issue.

6. Location & Accessibility

The Lodhi enjoys a central and advantageous location in New Delhi, situated in the leafy Lutyens' residential area. It is an "oasis" in the city, surrounded by green spaces.

  • Proximity to Attractions: The hotel is minutes away and within walking distance of several iconic sites, including the peaceful Lodhi Gardens (adjacent), Humayun's Tomb (a UNESCO World Heritage Site), and the upscale Khan Market. Other nearby attractions include Rashtrapati Bhavan, India Gate, and the Nizamuddin Dargah complex.
  • Transport: Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport is approximately 15 km away, with a drive taking at least 30-35 minutes, and the hotel offers airport pick-up services. Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway is just 1 km away. The hotel offers valet parking, but given Delhi's chaotic traffic, private car services or taxis are often recommended.

7. Value & Pricing

While The Lodhi is a luxury hotel, many guests consider it to offer good value for money, especially considering the spacious rooms and private plunge pools. Room rates can start from around $237 USD (approx. ₹21,932), though this is an approximate rate and can vary significantly. More recent data from February 2026 indicates regular room prices around ₹1,53,400 per night with taxes, and suites like the Sultan Suite going for ₹14,97,000 plus taxes, especially during peak demand periods or major events. The hotel's comprehensive amenities, including extensive recreational facilities and a world-class spa, contribute to its perceived value.

8. Common Complaints

While reviews are overwhelmingly positive, a few minor recurring issues or criticisms have been noted:

  • Service Inconsistencies: As mentioned earlier, some guests have experienced occasional "uneven service levels" or a lack of the polished warmth found in other top luxury hotels in the city.
  • City Noise and Dust: Due to its urban location, there can be some city noise, and dust can settle on guest terraces and private pools, particularly in hotter months, though housekeeping is generally effective at managing this.
  • Breakfast Atmosphere: While the breakfast quality is high, one review mentioned the Elan restaurant occasionally lacking atmosphere during breakfast, with air conditioning sometimes being too strong.
  • Safari Lounge Theme: The Safari Lounge's decor has been described by one guest as a "bizarrely themed pastiche" that felt out of sync with the rest of the hotel's design.
  • Private Member's Club Impact: The fact that the hotel's facilities are also open to a private member's club can lead to the pool, gym, and spa becoming busy in the evenings, which some guests find undesirable as it can detract from the ambiance.
  • Hotel Layout for Mobility Issues: The hotel grounds are spread across multiple levels, which might be challenging for guests with mobility issues.

Hands down the best 5-star hotel I’ve stayed at. From the moment you enter, everything feels special — the location, the rooms, the amenities, and especially the staff. We were celebrating our anniversary, and the hotel surprised us with a beautifully decorated room and a special cake, which made the stay even more memorable. The rooms are stunning, and the private plunge pool is an absolute high...

I had high expectations for The Lodhi given its reputation and price point, but my stay was overwhelmingly disappointing due to a pattern of broken promises and poor coordination. Noise — A Nonstop Problem When I arrived after a long journey, a wedding reception was underway. I asked the staff member checking me in whether it would be loud, and she assured me I wouldn’t hear a thing. She was wron...
