The Lince Ecorkhotel Évora, nestled just outside the historic city of Évora in the Alentejo region of Portugal, is recognized as a Michelin Key Selected property, signifying an establishment that offers a truly exceptional travel experience, including excellence in design, quality of service, unique character, and value. This eco-resort, known for its sustainable and energy-efficient design featuring cork-coated buildings, generally garners positive feedback for its tranquil setting and attentive staff, though some recent reviews indicate areas needing refurbishment.
1. Overall Rating & Sentiment
The general consensus for The Lince Ecorkhotel Évora is largely positive, with overall ratings often falling into the "Very Good" to "Excellent" range across various platforms. Booking.com rates it 8.4 out of 10 with a staff score of 9.2, while Hotels.com shows an 8.8 out of 10. Guests frequently highlight the hotel's beautiful grounds, serene atmosphere, and the professionalism of the staff. However, some more recent reviews suggest a decline in maintenance and cleanliness, hinting at a need for renovation in certain areas.
2. Key Highlights
Guests consistently praise several aspects of The Lince Ecorkhotel Évora:
- Design & Ambiance: The unique, modernist, cube-like villas and cork-coated main building are frequently admired, providing a distinctive and organic aesthetic that blends with the Alentejo countryside. The quiet, natural surroundings are a major draw for a relaxing stay.
- Amenities: The hotel boasts excellent facilities, including indoor and outdoor swimming pools (with a fantastic outdoor infinity pool), a well-equipped spa with a sauna, Turkish bath, and various treatments, and a gym.
- Service: The staff consistently receives high marks for being exceptional, helpful, kind, and professional, particularly in the restaurant and at reception.
- Tranquility: The secluded location offers a perfect retreat from the city, ideal for those seeking peace and quiet.
3. Room Quality
The Lince Ecorkhotel Évora offers spacious suites, with the smallest spanning approximately 70 square meters (753 sq ft). These air-conditioned suites feature living areas with sofas, flat-screen cable TVs, free WiFi, minibars, and private bathrooms with complimentary toiletries. A key feature is the private terraces or patios overlooking the Alentejo countryside. While many guests find the beds comfortable and the rooms generally neat and tidy, some recent feedback points to issues with dampness, dusty spots, spider webs, and a general need for better maintenance and cleaning, suggesting that the reality of the rooms might not always align with expectations set by website photos. Family suites also include kitchenettes.
4. Dining Experience
The hotel's Cardo Restaurant specializes in local and seasonal Alentejo-inspired dishes, offering both characteristic Portuguese and international flavors. The breakfast is frequently highlighted as "excellent," "super," and "tasty," often complimentary. There is also a lobby bar and a poolside bar serving drinks and light fare, as well as an on-site snack bar for Portuguese snacks. While the food quality is generally praised, some guests have noted that the restaurant can be pricey for local standards.
5. Service & Staff
The service and staff at The Lince Ecorkhotel Évora are consistently among its strongest assets. Guests frequently describe the staff as "exceptional," "super polite," "very friendly," "helpful," and "kind." From accommodating requests to assisting with travel issues, the hospitality receives high praise, contributing significantly to a positive guest experience.
6. Location & Accessibility
The hotel is situated in a secluded location in the midst of nature, offering a quiet and relaxing escape outside of Évora city center. While not directly in the city, it's considered a great location for exploring the areas around Évora with a car, being approximately a 14-minute drive from the city center and its national landmarks like the Roman Temple and Évora Cathedral. Free private parking is available on site, and the hotel offers a free area shuttle and a shuttle service to the airport (for a surcharge). However, for an eco-friendly hotel, some guests find it strange that arriving by car is almost a necessity due to a lack of public transport options.
7. Value & Pricing
While specific price ranges vary depending on the season and booking platform, guest feedback on "Value for money" generally hovers around 8.1 out of 10. Some reviews mention that while the food is great, it can be pricey for local standards. The Michelin Key selection implies an experience that justifies its price point, and many guests feel the overall experience aligns with the cost, particularly appreciating the unique concept and amenities. Deals for rooms can be found, with prices varying by day of the week and season, with October and July sometimes offering cheaper rates.

Overall impression was okay, with a warm welcome from the staff upon arrival. However, the rooms are in need of serious maintenance and improved cleanliness. There was visible mold and cracks on the walls, the ceiling was full of insects, and the bathroom tiles were both dirty and damaged. The pool area was also disappointing, with dated furniture, some of which needs repairs, and the indoor pool...

Here I am sitting 25 minutes waiting around for a massage appointment to start and there is no regard for schedule. I have a packed day and exert great effort to be on time only for this.

Nice calm and mid nature location, staff is friendly and polite. The breakfast was good, restaurant also very good with great food (40-50€ per person). Very good for a get away and you also have the city to explore. It was a good experience and I would recommend.

Echoing the comments - this is not a 4 star hotel experience. The surroundings are lovely, and there is potential for this hotel to be great - however the rooms were quite basic with definite renovations needed. The shared spaces were good (lounge) and nice buffet breakfast. Spa not ideal with timers on sauna and steam room. Extra to pay for head caps. Overall lots of little errors making the stay...

On a trip where we just wanted to relax, we had an unpleasant surprise and had to leave the hotel halfway through our stay. Everything seemed excellent, but what they sold us in the photos was not at all the real appearance of the rooms. Starting with the positives, the space and common areas are very good, and the ingredients they use for breakfast are of immense quality. Following this is the f...
