2. Key Highlights

Guests consistently laud several aspects of Sublime Samana:

  • Service & Staff: The warm and welcoming staff receives frequent mentions for their attentiveness and friendly demeanor. Many feel cared for and describe the service as "top-notch."
  • Location: Situated directly on the pristine Playa Coson, the hotel's beach is repeatedly described as "beautiful," "fantastic," and "unpopulated," perfect for long walks and relaxation. The secluded nature of the location is a significant draw for those seeking tranquility.
  • Design & Ambiance: The property's design, with its modern, white-washed suites gleaming against a backdrop of tropical terrain and turquoise skies, creates a chic and serene environment. The interconnected pools with picturesque cabanas are also a visual highlight.
  • Amenities: Guests appreciate the two outdoor pools, fitness center, tennis court, and the "Coconut Whispers Spa" with its beachside treatment pavilions. The availability of non-motorized water sports like snorkeling, paddleboards, and sailboats is also a plus.

3. Room Quality

The accommodations at Sublime Samana are a major draw, primarily consisting of spacious suites and casitas (freestanding villas).

  • Spaciousness & Comfort: Rooms are consistently described as very spacious and comfortable, offering high ceilings and a relaxing atmosphere.
  • Design & Amenities: They feature a contemporary design with plenty of natural light, white fabrics and walls, and occasional pops of Caribbean color. Each suite and casita comes equipped with a fully-equipped kitchen (including dining area, coffee maker, microwave, and refrigerator), separate living areas, private balcony or terrace, flat-screen TV with DVD/CD player, and spa-like marble bathrooms with White Company bath products. Some casitas and two-bedroom suites also include a private jacuzzi or rooftop terrace with panoramic ocean views. The internet connection in the rooms is noted as solid, making it suitable for work.

4. Dining Experience

Sublime Samana offers a highly-regarded culinary experience, moving away from typical all-inclusive buffets.

  • Restaurant Quality: There are two on-site restaurants: The Bistro and La Palapa (Beachside Grill). The cuisine is often described as excellent, with a focus on fresh, locally sourced ingredients, especially seafood caught daily from Las Terrenas. Chef Patricio Mardones emphasizes a fusion of Dominican and Mediterranean flavors, creating sophisticated and innovative dishes like seared mahi-mahi with lemon-thyme sauce or grilled octopus with cassava purée.
  • Breakfast: An à la carte breakfast is included and served beachside at La Palapa, which guests find delightful, though some mention it could be upgraded.
  • Variety & Options: The menus change weekly, ensuring variety. There's also a casual beachside grill for lunch, serving ceviche, burgers, and the catch of the day. Room service is available. Private dining experiences, including romantic candlelit beach dinners or chef's tasting menus in the wine cellar, can be arranged. There's also a children's menu.

5. Service & Staff

Guest feedback consistently highlights the outstanding service and friendly staff as one of Sublime Samana's greatest assets.

  • Concierge Services: The hotel offers concierge services to arrange activities and excursions.

6. Location & Accessibility

Sublime Samana is located on the secluded Playa Coson in Las Terrenas, on the northeast coast of the Samaná Peninsula.

  • Neighborhood & Seclusion: It's praised for its quiet and tranquil ambiance, offering a genuine escape from crowded tourist areas. The resort feels like a small boutique hotel on the beach, surrounded by lush tropical greenery.
  • Attractions & Excursions: While secluded, it's a good base for exploring the natural beauty of the Samaná Peninsula. The hotel can arrange excursions such as horse rides to the El Limón waterfall, snorkeling or sailing trips along the Cabo Samana cliffs, and visits to Los Haitises National Park. Whale watching is a popular activity from January to March. Downtown Las Terrenas, with more dining and shopping options, is a short 5-minute drive away.
  • Transport: The closest airport is El Catey International (Samana - AZS), approximately 20-25 minutes away. Transfers can be arranged. While free private parking is available, a car is advisable for exploring the surrounding natural areas and the village of Las Terrenas. Taxis can be expensive, and nearby supermarkets are not within walking distance, making a car or scooter beneficial for off-property dining and groceries.

7. Value & Pricing

Sublime Samana is considered a luxury property.

  • Pricing: Prices can vary, with some sources indicating rates from around $204-$655, and an average of $351. The cheapest deals are generally found in August and July, with Mondays and Saturdays often being more affordable than Wednesdays.
  • Value: Guests generally find the experience to be worth the cost, particularly appreciating the quality of the facilities, food, and service. While some acknowledge it's not the most budget-friendly, the unique and intimate luxury experience justifies the pricing.

8. Common Complaints

While overwhelmingly positive, some minor recurring issues have been noted:

  • Elevator Service: One guest mentioned the elevator being out of service for the duration of their stay, which was difficult for an elderly family member.
  • Breakfast Upgrade: A few guests suggested that breakfast, while good, could be upgraded further.
  • Dining Cost & Accessibility: The on-site restaurant food, while excellent, can be expensive, and without a car or scooter, finding other dinner options can be challenging due to expensive taxis and non-walkable supermarkets.
  • Beach Amenities: One guest noted that beach towels/mattresses for sunbeds were "closed" around 5-6 PM.
  • Staff Consistency (Minor): A very limited number of reviews indicated some inconsistency in staff greeting or willingness to help with certain requests.
  • Gym: The gym is noted as not being air-conditioned.

Wonderful and beautiful resort with amazing staff. The breakfast is amazing. We were here for their Mother’s Day. The grilled buffet included seafood, ribs, fruit and vegetables. Delicious pastries available also. The staff makes sure your stay is everything you could ask for. Restaurant is lacking in taste and options for lunch and dinner.

My boyfriend and I stayed for two nights. I overall wish I could get a refund. I would definitely explore other options if we ever return to Las Terrenas. We had such high expectations and excitement for this place after seeing the great reviews and stunning photos. Our stay was fine because the rooms were big and clean and the location was lovely, but every other aspect was lacking and there were...
