The Southernmost Beach Resort & Guesthouses in Key West, Florida, a Michelin Key Selected property, offers guests a captivating blend of historic charm and modern luxury, celebrated for its prime oceanfront location and a diverse range of accommodations. The resort, which underwent a $25 million renovation in recent years, provides a tranquil escape while being just steps from the vibrant energy of Duval Street.

1. Overall Rating & Sentiment

The property is generally well-maintained and clean, with an emphasis on relaxation and a warm, welcoming atmosphere.

2. Key Highlights

  • Design & Ambiance: The refreshed decor blends midcentury modern with breezy tropical elements, utilizing an oceanic color palette of white, cobalt blue, aquamarine, and coral. The property's lush grounds, featuring palm-fringed pathways and gardens, contribute to a secluded and intimate feel.

3. Room Quality

The Southernmost Beach Resort offers nearly 300 guest rooms spread across eight buildings, along with a collection of adults-only guesthouses (La Mer, Dewey, Avalon, and Duval Gardens) housed in restored Victorian homes.

  • Resort Rooms: Family-friendly rooms in the main buildings are described as simple yet sophisticated, with modern comforts, air conditioning, safes, and complimentary bottled water. Many rooms feature private balconies, some offering spectacular ocean or partial ocean views. Pillowtop beds with premium bedding ensure comfort.
  • Guesthouses: The guesthouses provide a more old-world character and a bed-and-breakfast style experience, often including daily breakfast. These accommodations blend historic and modern touches, with unique features like pastel-hued bathrooms, vintage-inspired wallpaper, romantic four-poster beds, and private furnished patios overlooking the beach.

4. Dining Experience

It's open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, offering beachfront and poolside dining with ocean views. Cooked-to-order breakfasts are available for a fee.

Review Title: Incredible staff and views, but needs some TLC for the price Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ I had a great time during my recent stay! There was a lot to love, but also a few areas where the property could improve to truly match its price point. The Best Parts: The Staff: Absolutely amazing. The restaurant staff, in particular, were the best part of the trip—attentive, friendly, and professional. ...

Great Service & Unbeatable Views! We had a bit of a bumpy start at the Southernmost Beach Resort, but the staff really went above and beyond to make it right. When we first arrived at the Avalon rooms, the first three we looked at had a peculiar, musty smell. However, the management was excellent—they didn't hesitate to accommodate us and upgraded us to one of the oceanfront buildings. This room ...

Overall a great place to enjoy sun and beach, yet at a premium price. As other reviews have stated there are some updates needed to amenities such as loud AC and water pressure being non-existent. Saving grace is the location, activities, and friendly staff. If you can find a good deal then it would be worth the stay.

We recently spent 2 nights at this resort (Jan 2026). It is a nice looking resort with upscale rooms and corresponding upscale room rates. At check-in, the resort clipped us for 2 additional Gotcha fees, a $50 a night parking fee and a $65 a night "resort" fee. Our room in the Avalon building was modern and comfortable, but not well insulated apparently, we could clearly hear the neighbors talk...

Southernmost Beach Resort is a great choice if you’re looking for a beautiful beach setting in Key West. The resort is family-friendly but also has adults-only areas, which is a nice balance. The onsite café and coffee shop are super convenient. If you want a quieter stay, request an oceanfront sunset view farther from the pool—it makes a difference. I’ve stayed in both oceanfront and interior ro...

Deeply Disappointing Stay at Southernmost Hotel My experience at the Southernmost Hotel was far from what I expected, and unfortunately, I can’t recommend it. The service was consistently unhelpful and at times flat out rude. It was as if guests were an inconvenience rather than a priority. Basic requests took ages, and staff rarely followed through. The amenities were another major letdown. Th...
