Expert Review: Rosewood London
Rosewood London, a distinguished Michelin Two-Key property, stands as a beacon of Edwardian grandeur and contemporary sophistication in the heart of London. It consistently garners praise for its exceptional service, exquisite design, and an array of luxurious amenities, making it a highly recommended choice for discerning travelers.
Overall Rating & Sentiment
Rosewood London is consistently lauded as an exceptional, ultra-luxurious hotel, often described as one of the finest five-star establishments in the UK capital. Its Michelin Two-Key designation signifies an "exceptional stay," reflecting a consensus of overwhelmingly positive guest experiences. Review scores frequently rank high, with categories like cleanliness, comfort, and staff receiving excellent ratings (e.g., 9.5 and 9.6 on Booking.com).
Key Highlights
Guests consistently adore the hotel's blend of historic elegance and modern luxury. Key highlights include the stunning interior design, which sensitively renovates a 1914 neoclassical building while adding contemporary flair. The tranquil inner courtyard provides a serene escape from the city's hustle. The hotel's acclaimed restaurants and bars, particularly Scarfes Bar, are frequently mentioned as standout features. The exceptional and attentive service from all staff members is a recurring point of praise. Even the staff uniforms, described as "sexy tweed outfits," add to the hotel's unique charm.
Room Quality
The rooms at Rosewood London are generally described as chic, comfortable, and remarkably spacious for a central London property. Many rooms boast high ceilings, bespoke furnishings, and luxurious Italian marble bathrooms. Standard amenities include Nespresso machines, 46-inch or 55-inch flat-screen TVs, cordless telephones, minibars, and complimentary Wi-Fi. Suites often feature deep soaking tubs and walk-in showers. Thoughtful touches like monogrammed pillows are also noted. However, one recent critique described some rooms as "ugly and poorly designed," lacking sufficient storage for unpacking, and featuring an awkward shower/tub combination. There have also been isolated complaints regarding poor soundproofing and air conditioning noise.
Dining Experience
Rosewood London offers diverse and acclaimed dining experiences. The Holborn Dining Room is a bustling modern British brasserie, particularly noted for its famous pies and extensive gin collection. The Mirror Room provides an intimate setting for breakfast, afternoon tea, and dinner. Scarfes Bar is an award-winning hotspot known for its creative cocktails, live music, and art-lined walls. Breakfast, served in both the Mirror Room and Holborn Dining Room, is generally well-regarded, with room service also receiving positive feedback for food quality. However, one reviewer expressed significant disappointment with a dinner experience at the main restaurant, deeming it "the worst meal I've had in London," though they found breakfast decent.
Service & Staff
The service at Rosewood London is consistently highlighted as a pinnacle of the guest experience, described as outstanding, faultless, attentive, professional, warm, and genuinely hospitable. Staff members are praised for their exceptional attention to detail, responsiveness to requests, and efforts to personalize stays. Guests appreciate the seamless check-in process, often conducted while seated, and the friendly, efficient doormen who assist with arrivals and departures. Butlers also provide proactive and flexible service, such as scheduling room cleaning around guest needs.
Location & Accessibility
Situated in Holborn on High Holborn, the hotel benefits from a central "midtown" location, perfectly positioned between the City of London and the West End. Its accessibility is a major advantage, with Holborn tube station just a short walk away (350-500 feet). This prime location offers easy walking access to major attractions such as the British Museum, Covent Garden, the Royal Opera House, and various West End theatres. The hotel's unique carriageway and courtyard create a sense of tranquility removed from the bustling city streets.
Value & Pricing
As a luxury five-star property and a Michelin Two-Key hotel, Rosewood London commands a premium price. Standard rates typically start around $750 or €510 per night and can increase significantly during peak seasons. Despite the high cost, many guests feel the exceptional quality of service, design, and amenities justifies the expense, often describing it as offering good value for the overall experience. Rosewood is not affiliated with a major hotel loyalty program; however, booking through specific luxury travel agents or channels can unlock valuable perks such as upgrades, daily breakfast, and hotel credits.
Common Complaints
While overwhelmingly positive, some recurring criticisms exist. The most notable recent complaint concerns certain room types being perceived as "ugly and poorly designed," with inadequate storage and an inconvenient shower/tub combination. Other room-specific issues mentioned include poor soundproofing and loud air conditioning in isolated instances. One reviewer had a significantly negative dinner experience at the main restaurant, despite finding breakfast decent. Earlier reviews noted a lack of an iPhone dock, though this may now be outdated. Another older review mentioned pre-cooked eggs and difficulty getting staff attention during breakfast in the Mirror Room, contrasting with more recent positive feedback on breakfast service. The absence of a major hotel loyalty program is also a point for consideration for some travelers.

My wife and I chose to stay at Rosewood London for a long weekend, and we had an amazing experience. The rooms and service are top notch, and the hotel is conveniently located right next to the Holborn Underground station, which connects to two lines that can get you to almost everything in the city (including Kings Cross and Heathrow). Another huge benefit is the hotel has a guest-only entrance t...

Lovely afternoon tea at the Rosewood hotel. The staff is attentive and welcoming and the menu is well thought and accurately presented. We enjoyed the selection of savoury and sweet treats. A perfect way to spend a few hours in a relaxed ambiance. The hotel was nicely decorated for Christmas too!

I stayed at the Rosewood for six nights, at nearly £1,000 per night. The room itself was luxurious and very comfortable, the lobby was beautiful, and housekeeping was meticulous. However, my overall experience was mediocre for a five-star hotel, with nothing truly exceptional to mention. I did not receive a warm welcome from the staff at the entrance or at reception. There was no small talk, no s...

I celebrated my 50th birthday here over the weekend. Stayed in family room with two kids. As always, it´s about the people. The kids were made comfortable and entertained, excellent advice from the concierge and a slight misunderstanding regarding payment for breakfast was solved without hesitation by the front desk. A true five star experience.
