The Periscope Hotel, a distinguished Michelin Key Selected property in Athens, Greece, consistently garners high praise for its unique design, prime location, and exceptional service. It stands out as a stylish, minimalist boutique hotel nestled in the vibrant Kolonaki district.
1. Overall Rating & Sentiment
The general consensus for Periscope Hotel is overwhelmingly positive, with guests frequently rating it highly for cleanliness, location, and staff performance. Review platforms show excellent scores, often above 9.0 out of 10, with some reaching exceptional levels of 9.4 for cleanliness and 9.2 for staff and service. Guests often describe their experience as outstanding and a tranquil retreat.
2. Key Highlights
Guests consistently laud the Periscope Hotel for its modern, chic, and sleek minimalist design, combined with a strong sense of personality. Its location in the upscale Kolonaki neighborhood is a significant draw, offering access to quality restaurants, cafes, shopping, and museums while providing a quiet escape from the city's crowds. The attentive and friendly staff are a recurring highlight, leaving a lasting impression on visitors. Complimentary non-alcoholic beverages and snacks available all day in the chic lounge are also highly appreciated perks. The hotel also offers free Wi-Fi and often includes breakfast in its rates.
3. Room Quality
The hotel's 21 or 22 rooms and suites are characterized by a sleek, minimalist design, featuring soundproofing, wooden floors, and a sophisticated color palette of light and deep grays, accented with touches of blue or orange. Guests praise the comfort of the beds, often highlighting Tempur-Pedic mattresses and premium bedding for an excellent night's sleep. Bathrooms are modern, with rainfall showers, luxurious toiletries (such as O-live brand), bathrobes, and slippers. In-room amenities include flat-screen TVs, minibars, safes, and sometimes a CD and DVD library and pillow menu. A distinctive design element is the ceiling, often adorned with black and white aerial photographs of Athens, mimicking a periscope's view. While standard rooms can be compact (around 23-25 sq m), junior suites and the penthouse offer more space, some with balconies or private jacuzzis with city views.
4. Dining Experience
Breakfast at Periscope Hotel is highly regarded, with a continental buffet often supplemented by à la carte cooked options and excellent espresso. Many guests consider it a delightful start to the day. The hotel's chic lounge is a social hub, serving breakfast and light fare. Additionally, a complimentary 24-hour coffee/tea bar, sparkling waters, sodas, fruits, and snacks are available in the lounge, which guests find incredibly convenient and welcoming. The on-site P Box Restaurant, located on the ground floor, offers fusion cuisine with Mediterranean and Asian flavors, prepared in an open kitchen and providing views of Haritos Street.
5. Service & Staff
The service and staff at Periscope Hotel receive consistent commendation for being exceptionally friendly, accommodating, helpful, and attentive. Guests frequently highlight the personalized and welcoming experience provided by the team, making them feel at home. Staff are noted for their efficiency and willingness to assist with requests, such as late check-outs or luggage storage.
6. Location & Accessibility
Periscope Hotel boasts a highly desirable and strategic location in Kolonaki, Athens' upscale and fashionable neighborhood. It's situated on a quiet side street, providing a peaceful environment while being steps away from exclusive boutiques, cafes, restaurants, art galleries, and cultural points. Key attractions such as Syntagma Square and Ermou Street are within a 15-minute walk. Mount Lycabettus, offering breathtaking city views, is also nearby. The hotel is well-connected to public transportation, with Aristippou and Evangelismos Metro Stations just a 5-6 minute walk away, making it easy to reach other parts of Athens, including the Acropolis (though not within immediate walking distance).
7. Value & Pricing
While considered a luxury boutique hotel, Periscope Hotel is generally seen as offering good value for its location and quality. Rates for standard rooms typically range from approximately $143 to $175 per night. The complimentary snacks and beverages, coupled with the high level of service and design, enhance the perceived value.
8. Common Complaints
Despite the overwhelmingly positive feedback, some recurring criticisms include the compact size of standard rooms, which may lack balconies. A few guests have also mentioned potential noise levels from the street, particularly in rooms on lower floors. While breakfast is generally praised, some reviews indicate that options can be limited.

A pleasant surprise! Located in a quiet neighborhood, this property offers clean, spacious rooms with a simple yet chic interior. We stayed for one night due to a flight cancellation and were impressed by the very friendly staff. The area is a bit hilly, so it may not be ideal for those with walking difficulties. Overall, a great experience—I would definitely stay here again.

Nice hotel with a great central location, walking distance to most of the social attractions. Rooms are quite small but beds are very comfortable. You can even get complimentary treats and drinks at the lobby during the day between breakfast and dinner

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5/5 We stayed at the Periscope Hotel in Athens, part of the Marriott Design Hotels Collection, and it was absolutely unforgettable. We booked the Penthouse Suite, and if you can, do the same — it’s one of the most breathtaking rooms in the city. The suite itself is beautiful — modern, comfortable, quiet, and full of natural light. The bed is incredibly comfortable, the shower is huge,...

Cozy hotel with a good location. Also, the staff was super friendly and helpful, and I love that they put the leftovers from breakfast out for grabs after breakfast was over. Less food waste, and a lifesaver when getting in hungry from the airport!

We only stayed here one night but we enjoyed it. It's quite close to the metro but quite a steep walk up the hill. We loved the neighborhood - very charming and unique. Lots of great restaurants and shops. The rooms were very simple but cute and clean. The free snacks they gave away were very tasty!
