It spans 220 oak and olive tree-studded acres, offering a tranquil oasis for relaxation and rejuvenation.
1. Overall Rating & Sentiment
The general consensus for Ojai Valley Inn is overwhelmingly positive, with guests frequently describing it as a "heaven on earth" and a "next-level, beautiful resort" experience. It boasts impressive guest scores, with an 8.8 (Fabulous) on Booking.com and a 19/20 on Tablet Hotels and the Michelin Guide. The atmosphere is often praised as peaceful, luxurious, and wonderfully relaxing, appealing to both families and couples seeking a getaway.
2. Key Highlights
Guests consistently laud the Ojai Valley Inn for several key aspects:
- Stunning Grounds & Design: The property is described as beautifully maintained with a Spanish Colonial revival-style architecture that seamlessly blends Mediterranean-inspired elegance with the natural surroundings. The extensive landscaping, featuring ancient oak trees and fragrant gardens, creates a serene "Zen experience."
- World-Class Amenities: The resort offers a plethora of activities and facilities, including the prestigious Spa Ojai, a championship 18-hole golf course, multiple swimming pools (including an adult-only Indigo Pool and a family-friendly Pixie Pool), and an expansive tennis center. The Artist Cottage & Apothecary provides creative wellness opportunities, and complimentary bike rentals are available for exploring the property.
- Diverse Dining: With numerous on-site restaurants and bars, guests have a wide array of culinary choices, focusing on locally sourced ingredients.
- Family and Couple Friendly: The resort successfully caters to both families with children (offering kids' clubs, specific pools, and activities like s'mores roasting) and couples seeking a romantic or quiet retreat.
3. Room Quality
The rooms at Ojai Valley Inn are designed with comfort and elegance in mind, reflecting a Spanish Colonial style. Recent renovations have updated the guest rooms to blend modern functionality with the vintage 1923 adobe architecture. They are described as luxurious, spacious, and comfortable.
Key features and amenities include:
- Luxurious Frette bedding and linens.
- State-of-the-art entertainment systems, including flat-screen HD televisions and in-room tablets with direct access to resort services.
- Spa Ojai bathroom amenities, featuring Baltic silver marble, dual vanities, separate showers, and soaking tubs.
- Nespresso machines and mini-refrigerators.
- Many rooms boast fireplaces and private balconies or patios offering breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains, golf course, or gardens.
- Specific room types like Fireplace Shangri-la rooms and Mini Suites are noted for their cozy seating areas and generous space.
4. Dining Experience
Ojai Valley Inn is considered a "foodie paradise" with a diverse selection of dining options, emphasizing California Central Coast cuisine and locally sourced ingredients, many from the resort's own gardens.
- Olivella: The signature fine-dining restaurant, Olivella, offers an Italian-influenced California cuisine, showcasing a farm-to-table concept and an award-winning wine list.
- The Oak: A popular choice for daily breakfast, lunch, and dinner, The Oak provides an indoor/outdoor setting with views of oak trees, the golf course, and mountains. The breakfast is frequently praised as excellent.
- Jimmy's Pub: Offers an authentic pub atmosphere with handcrafted cocktails, microbrew beers, and wood-fired pizzas.
- Spa Café: Located in the peaceful Spa Ojai Village, it serves wellness-inspired fare, fresh juices, smoothies, salads, and grain bowls.
- Indigo Pool & Bar: Provides poolside dining with refreshing cocktails, salads, and tapas.
- Wallace Neff Heritage Bar: An ideal spot for enjoying seasonal small plates, an extensive wine collection, and unique cocktails.
While much of the food receives positive feedback, some guests have noted that the dining experience, particularly at dinner, can be "good but not great" and may not always live up to the overall beauty of the resort. Some have also mentioned that restaurant options can be somewhat limited or not all open at certain times.
5. Service & Staff
The service at Ojai Valley Inn is generally highly praised, described as "exceptionally kind and friendly," "gracious," and "efficient." Staff members are often noted for being very accommodating and willing to help. Many guests appreciate the "refreshingly formal and professional" service, even within the casual California atmosphere. Specific individuals, such as the golf pro and hiking guide, have received personal commendations.
However, during peak seasons or high occupancy, some guests have experienced minor service hiccups, such as check-in delays or a feeling that service was "good, not great" due to staff being stretched.
6. Location & Accessibility
The Ojai Valley Inn's location is a significant highlight. It's nestled in a rare coastal valley, surrounded by scenic hills and the majestic Topatopa Mountains, bordering the Los Padres National Forest. This setting contributes to its reputation as a tranquil retreat.
- Accessibility: The resort is approximately a two-hour drive from Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) and about 45 minutes from Santa Barbara, making it an accessible luxury escape for many.
- Neighborhood & Attractions: While the resort itself offers a multitude of activities that might tempt guests to never leave, the charming town of Ojai is just a short distance away, featuring quaint galleries, shops, and restaurants. Nearby attractions include Lake Casitas, hiking trails like the Shelf Road Trail and Pratt Trail, and opportunities for horseback riding or jeep tours.
7. Value & Pricing
As a Michelin Key Selected property, Ojai Valley Inn operates at a premium price point, reflecting its luxury status and extensive amenities. Room prices typically start from around $710 to $733 per night, and can go as high as $3224 depending on the room type, season, and demand.
While many guests feel the experience is worth the cost, some consider the Inn "slightly over-priced" or that the "pricing was a little too high for the value" compared to other luxury hotels. A resort charge of $60 plus 15% tax is also applied.
8. Common Complaints
While generally highly rated, some recurring issues or criticisms have been noted by guests:
- Noise Transfer: Some guests have reported issues with noise from rooms above due to perceived lack of soundproofing, which can disrupt sleep.
- Check-in Delays & Internal Transportation: There have been instances of delayed check-ins and disorganization at reception. Additionally, navigating the sprawling property via golf carts can sometimes be confusing or cumbersome due to site layout and signage.
- Dining Consistency/Options: While generally good, some guests have found the dining options to be somewhat limited or not all restaurants to be open, and a few have felt the food doesn't consistently meet the high standards of the resort.
- Value Perception: A sentiment that the hotel can be overpriced for the value received is occasionally expressed.
- Pet Fees: The pet fee of $300 is considered excessive by some, especially when staying for a single night, with expectations of more inclusive pet services for that cost.

Such a gorgeous resort with so many extremely nice people and great food! Would like to give a special shout out to Keegan, Brian and Derek that made our meal in the Italian restaurant so memorable. Other people already said what is nice and good about this place so let me list a few things that if changed would make it perfect for me. First of all I enjoy watching my streaming services when away from home. Yes there is a big tv and it has a chromecast device that allows streaming. But chromecast doesn’t support Apple TV+ streaming. One of my favorites. Most hotels I have stayed in have the o...

This is a resort that work splendidly for groups, large or small, families and anyone just looking to get away to a beautiful place. It really is charming. It’s big, but doesn’t feel that way. Service is professional without being formal or uncomfortable. They must put a lot of effort into staff training, because there was a polish to how everyone treated guests - pride, hospitality and effici...

Truly incredible getaway. Beds and linens are very comfortable, food is amazing. Pools are all great and views of the mountains from everywhere on property. Great service. Great flexibility to have fancy dinners or casual. Great for families or adults. Food / timing of service could be a little better at the kids pool but only a small thing.
