- Views: All rooms boast large windows and a private terrace or balcony, ensuring breathtaking views of the Engadine Valley or mountains.
- Materials: Natural Swiss spruce wood, Italian stone, and suede are extensively used, contributing to a warm and luxurious feel.
- Amenities: Rooms come equipped with fine linens, high-tech TVs, USB charging hubs, and in larger rooms and suites, bathtubs in addition to rain showers. Junior suites offer nearly double the living space.
4. Dining Experience
Nira Alpina offers diverse culinary experiences with three on-site restaurants and a bakery.
- Stars Restaurant: This main restaurant, located on the 5th floor, provides panoramic views of the lakes and mountains. It serves breakfast and dinner, with an evening menu featuring international cuisine, often with an alpine twist, using seasonal and locally sourced ingredients. Guests can enjoy dishes with global flavors inspired by the chef's experiences, including international classics.
- Trattoria: Known for its Italian dishes and authentic "stubli" surroundings.
- Pichalain Après-Ski Hut: A popular spot for après-ski, described as a "cute-as-anything" tiny wooden hut with wood shavings on the floor, serving hot wine.
- Breakfast: A complimentary buffet breakfast is served in the Stars Restaurant, offering a wide variety of breads, cereals, nuts, dried fruit, yogurt, cold cuts, salmon, cheese, sausages, and made-to-order omelets. Service during breakfast is noted as friendly and efficient.

5. Service & Staff
The service and staff at Nira Alpina consistently receive glowing reviews. Guests frequently describe the team as "outstanding," "super nice, supportive and always smiling," "friendly," "helpful," and "accommodating." The general manager, Claudia Pronk, is particularly noted for her warm approach and for checking on the well-being of guests. The professional yet informal atmosphere fostered by the management and staff contributes to a welcoming and comfortable stay.
6. Location & Accessibility
Nira Alpina is situated in Surlej, a village nestled in the Engadine Valley, about 5 to 8 kilometers (10-20 minutes' drive by car or bus) outside the main town of St. Moritz.
- Ski-in/Ski-out: Its most significant locational advantage is the direct connection via a private covered walkway to the Corvatsch cable car, providing immediate ski access.
- Views: The location offers spectacular views of the Engadine Valley, Lake Silvaplana, and the surrounding mountains.
- Transport: The hotel provides a free pick-up and drop-off service to St. Moritz train station (subject to availability). There's also a public bus every 20 minutes to Silvaplana and St. Moritz, which is free for guests. While convenient for skiing, guests wishing to frequently visit St. Moritz Dorf (downtown) might find a car advantageous, as it's too far to walk.
- Activities: Beyond skiing, the location is excellent for summer activities like hiking, mountain biking, and watersports on Lake Silvaplana.
7. Value & Pricing
While Nira Alpina is a luxury hotel in a prime location, many guests consider it to offer "amazing quality and value for money" for Switzerland. Prices can vary, with rooms starting from around CHF 200 to CHF 610, and suites from CHF 370 to CHF 760. A 1-night stay for two adults can start from approximately AU$694 (around CHF 400-450) including taxes and fees, as seen in early 2026. The inclusion of a comprehensive breakfast, use of the spa, fitness room, Wi-Fi, and a free parking garage (for some bookings) adds to the perceived value.
8. Common Complaints
While overall sentiment is very positive, some minor points of criticism occasionally arise:
- Room Views: Some guests note that the smaller "Mountain View" rooms primarily face the Corvatsch cable car, and the valley views are generally considered superior.
- Maintenance: A few reviews mention that the hotel could use "more attention to detail regarding maintenance" or a "re-fresh" in some areas.
- Distance to St. Moritz Center: While the hotel offers excellent ski access, its location in Surlej means a commute to St. Moritz town center, which might be a slight inconvenience for those wanting to be "in the thick of things" or who prefer walking to attractions.
- Atmosphere at Breakfast: One reviewer found the breakfast atmosphere in the Stars restaurant less "exquisite" than in the Trattoria, despite the better view and friendly service.
