Expert Review: Miramar La Cigale Hotel Thalasso & Spa
Miramar La Cigale Hotel Thalasso & Spa in Arzon, France, a Michelin Key Selected property, generally garners positive feedback for its unique design, stunning location, and comfortable accommodations, though some recurring issues regarding spa facilities and service consistency are noted by guests.
1. Overall Rating & Sentiment
The general consensus for Miramar La Cigale Hotel Thalasso & Spa is largely positive, with guests frequently describing it as a "magnificent place" and an "excellent hotel". It boasts an overall rating of 8.8 ("Very good") based on 1324 verified ratings, with a significant portion of guests rating it "Wonderful" (910 reviews). While many guests have exceptional experiences, some express disappointment with aspects like spa maintenance and occasional service lapses.
2. Key Highlights
Guests consistently praise several key aspects of Miramar La Cigale:
- Location & Design: The hotel's "fantastic location" is frequently highlighted, situated facing the Atlantic Ocean and surrounded by a marine lake, offering great views. Its distinctive architecture, resembling a moored cruise ship with decks and "sea view" cabins, is also a significant draw.
- Comfortable Rooms: The spacious and comfortable rooms with great views are highly appreciated.
- Thalasso & Spa Facilities: While some issues exist, the thalassotherapy center and its "parcours marin" are often mentioned as appealing features for relaxation and well-being.
- Breakfast Quality: The breakfast, particularly the buffet, receives high marks for its quality and variety.
3. Room Quality
Miramar La Cigale offers 113 air-conditioned rooms and suites, designed to evoke a captain's cabin on a cruise ship. Rooms are described as bright, spacious, and very comfortable, often featuring private, furnished balconies overlooking the ocean or a salted lake. Key features include memory foam mattresses and a pillow menu, ensuring a good night's sleep. Each room is equipped with laptop-compatible safes, complimentary bottled water, 55-inch flat-screen televisions with satellite channels, desks, and complimentary wireless internet access. Bathrooms come with bathtubs or showers, bathrobes, slippers, and hair dryers. Daily housekeeping and a nightly turndown service are provided. However, some guests have noted minor issues like worn wallpaper or less-than-immaculate carpeting in older reviews, and concerns about poor room security with non-locking balcony panels and unlocked adjoining doors. Issues with room temperature control, particularly during transitional seasons when air conditioning or heating might be turned off, have also been reported.
4. Dining Experience
The hotel features a restaurant, Le Safran, which offers French cuisine with ocean and pool views, and a buffet breakfast. Guests frequently praise the "excellent buffet at restaurant" and the high quality of breakfast with a wide choice. The restaurant personnel are often described as professional, welcoming, and smiling. The "Buffet du Pêcheur," an all-you-can-eat seafood buffet served on Thursday and Sunday evenings, is a notable culinary experience. Lunch options, such as the "Safran Découverte" formula, also receive positive mentions. The bar, Le Goëland, located on the top floor, offers cocktails and boasts magnificent views.
5. Service & Staff
Service is generally praised, with many guests finding the staff "fabulous," "friendly," "accommodating," and "very professional". Specific mentions include staff being efficient, attentive, and doing "everything to correct a little hurdle". The conciergerie service, led by a Chief Concierge who is a Golden Keys member, aims to meet guests' desires with discretion and attention. However, some reviews mention inconsistencies, such as a lack of welcoming staff at times, a single concierge acting as doorman and valet only during the day, and occasional inexperience among restaurant teams or reception staff. Issues with late luggage assistance upon departure and difficulty in getting room service for basic requests like extra tea bags have also been reported.
6. Location & Accessibility
Miramar La Cigale boasts a prime location in Arzon, "facing the Atlantic Ocean" and situated on the Rhuys Peninsula. It is "very close to the beach and marina", just a short 5-minute walk to the harbor with its array of restaurants and shops. The surrounding area offers numerous hiking paths and opportunities for discovery. The hotel provides free private parking, with covered parking available for an additional charge. The property is also wheelchair accessible with an elevator and stair-free paths to the entrance.
7. Value & Pricing
Rates for Miramar La Cigale Hotel Thalasso & Spa start from approximately $204 per night for a standard room, with double rooms and classic rooms being slightly more expensive. Prices can vary significantly based on the season, with August being the most expensive month (average 43% rise) and October being the cheapest (average 28% drop). Average weeknight prices are around $233, while weekend nights average $402. A city tax of EUR 3.30 per person per night is applied. Some guests feel that the spa facilities being an extra cost, even when paying a high nightly rate, is disappointing. There are also opinions that the overall experience, particularly regarding spa maintenance and some service aspects, does not always justify a 5-star pricing or the "value for money" for the restaurant.
8. Common Complaints
Several recurring issues appear in guest feedback:
- Spa Facilities: This is the most consistent area of complaint. Guests frequently report the spa and pool water, including the "Oceanique Spa," being too cold, despite advertised temperatures. Cleanliness issues, such as black mold in the hammam, and a general lack of care in some spa areas have also been noted. Some guests found the aquatic parcours to be small and not well-designed, and the indoor pool minuscule. The absence of lifeguards in certain spa areas, even when accessible to external clients, raised safety concerns.
- Room Temperature Control: As mentioned, issues with the air conditioning and heating system being turned off in bedrooms, leading to uncomfortable temperatures, have been reported, with guests being advised to open windows even during storms, which created noise and security concerns.
- Service Inconsistencies: While staff are generally praised, some guests experienced a lack of proactivity from reception, insufficient staff at certain times (e.g., for luggage assistance), and a perception of some restaurant staff lacking experience or speaking limited French.
- Maintenance: Beyond the spa, some general maintenance issues have been cited, such as the need for exterior paint refreshment, unkempt outdoor areas around the hotel and parking, and broken gates leading to the beach.
- Security: Concerns about room security were raised due to non-locking balcony panels and unlocked adjoining room doors.

Great location with spa hotel. The buffet breakfast exceeded my expectations, offering a variety of high-quality options. Unfortunately, we didn’t dine at the hotel for supper, so I can’t comment on the evening cuisine. We did use the spa facilities, but found the water temperature too cool for a truly relaxing experience. Additionally, the room was uncomfortably warm, and the air conditioning str...

Great design and huge rooms with all you could need. The shower and bathrooms are really 5 star. The A/C, however, is not great, and the upper temp is limited, and you can't turn it off. For the English visitors, you will need to ask for milk or drink black coffee. Meals in their restaurant are nothing special. Breakfast offers more than you can imagine and dependant on which waiter you get spoken...

We visited here just for drinks, service was excellent and the views too. I would definitely look to stay here as the rooms looked very nice and the location was perfect for a few days. The spa and swimming pool looked very inviting.

Negatives first: the front desk check-in was a bit on the slow side as quite a few guests cued to get their room keys around 3PM on Sunday (low season) Staff just looking around not doing anything at this time is not a great image . Food ok, eggplant in my opinion undercooked (could not be cut with a fish knife) Rooms big, balcony with view , bathroom well equipped, however very warm even with t...

After a nice walk by the seashore, do dare push the doors of luxurious Miramar hôtel and head 4 floors up to the panoramic bar Le Goéland (seagull). Breathtaking views and a very friendly and professional staff will welcome you. Amazing pastries and home made hot cocoa.

Treatments are efficient. But the bad surprise was the food! Up and down! An excellent day and the next day very average, with regulars so disappointed and angry! Too bad because this inconsistency makes u...
