2. Key Highlights
Guests frequently highlight the hotel's captivating design, exceptional staff, and prime location as its strongest assets. The elegant library with its jewel-toned sofas and vintage cocktail carts, the grand spiral staircase, and the picturesque open-air courtyard featuring a plunge pool are particularly admired. The presence of a Michelin-starred restaurant, ROUGE, and a lively bistro, Gigi, further elevates the guest experience. The intimate atmosphere of this boutique hotel, a historic monument, is often noted as a significant draw.
3. Room Quality
The rooms and suites at Margaret Hotel Chouleur are consistently praised for their elegance, spaciousness, and sophisticated design. Ranging from 22m² to an expansive 166m² for the largest suite, they are meticulously furnished with hardwood floors, leather accents, and boldly tiled bathrooms. Comfort is paramount, with king-size bedding, air conditioning, flat-screen TVs, and minibars as standard amenities. Many rooms offer charming city views, and some even include private terraces. Bathrooms are well-appointed, often featuring both a bathtub and shower, and come with luxurious toiletries, such as those from Dyptique.
4. Dining Experience
The hotel offers an exceptional dining experience with two on-site restaurants. ROUGE, a 1-Michelin-starred gastronomic restaurant led by Chef Luka-Tao Debenath, presents a journey through French cuisine, emphasizing local Gard and Languedoc products with international influences. There's also Gigi, described as a "sunny bistro with a Mediterranean flair". Breakfast is "beyond excellent", "generous and varied", featuring local specialties, fresh pastries, cheese, and fruits, with options for buffet, continental, or gluten-free, and available for in-room dining.

The 24-hour front desk, concierge services, and multilingual staff contribute to a welcoming and supportive environment.
6. Location & Accessibility
Margaret Hotel Chouleur boasts an "unbeatable" central location in Nîmes' UNESCO-protected historic center, placing guests just a few blocks from iconic landmarks like the Roman amphitheater, Maison Carrée, and Nîmes Cathedral. The surrounding neighborhood is characterized by quaint streets, bustling shops, and various eateries. While the hotel is in a car-free area, it is conveniently located near public parking options like Parking Indigo Maison Carrée, and the staff assists with luggage transportation. Nîmes train station is within a 15-minute walk, and Nimes-Ales-Camargue-Cevennes Airport is approximately 5.6 miles away, with paid airport shuttle services available.
7. Value & Pricing
While precise pricing fluctuates based on dates and room types, the hotel is generally considered to offer good value for its 5-star experience. Rates typically start from around $176-$181 USD or €220 per night for a double room. Guests feel the cost is justified by the luxurious accommodations, excellent service, and prime location.
8. Common Complaints
While overall feedback is highly positive, some recurring minor issues have been noted by guests. These include occasional poor lighting in some junior suites, low water pressure in bathtubs which can extend filling time, and a lack of complementary bath salts or slippers. Some guests have also reported issues with safes not working or limited heating in certain areas like the breakfast room. The absence of an elevator can be a factor for guests on higher floors, with up to 60 steps to navigate. A few guests have also expressed a preference for male staff assistance with heavy luggage, especially given the walk to parking.

This is very nice up market hotel, located right in the city center where everything is just a short walk away. I stayed in room 5 on the top floor, which was very large and comfortable - see photos. The walk in closet alone was huge! There is no lift, but they help you carry your bags up so it is not a hardship. The room was clean and very comfortable. There was very slight noise from the street...

Hôtel Margaret is truly one of the most luxurious hotels I’ve ever stayed in. The moment you step inside, you can feel the soul and character of the place. It has a timeless charm that makes you feel as if you’ve slipped into another era, in the best possible way. We stayed in the family suite, which was incredibly spacious and beautifully designed. Every detail felt thoughtful and elegant. The hi...

The service was top notch, especially the breakfast service provided by Nathalie and the check-in and check-out with Lou. The hotel location is perfect for exploring the city and museums. We were given a choice of a room on the top floor which turned out to be very quiet, but was dark due to dark wall paint and did not have adequate lighting. Several of the blinds didn't work and some curtain rods...

Disappointing Service – Not up to 5-Star Standards While this property carries a 5-star rating, the service unfortunately does not. The staff lacked the warmth and professional courtesy expected at this level. Even a simple €4 espresso was served without the standard accompaniments (like a small sweet), which felt like an oversight. The team appears significantly understaffed, and it shows in the ...

Stayed in room 5 for 6 nights, the hotel location is right in the center of Nimes & close to everything you want. The room is so big and beautiful, extremely clean, beautiful amenities from Fragonard which is a french perfumery. Very quiet for a peaceful stay. Staff were all polite and very helpful. Definitely worth staying here if you are visiting Nimes.
