  • Service & Staff: The hotel's staff receives exceptional commendation for their friendliness, helpfulness, and proactive approach to guest satisfaction, often going above and beyond.

  • Amenities: Free WiFi, a wellness center, and complimentary coffee and tea in the reception are appreciated.

3. Room Quality

The 39 individually designed rooms and suites at Marktgasse Hotel are described as clean, modern, and exceedingly comfortable. They are well-equipped and functional, featuring "super comfy" Schramm mattresses, air conditioning, flat-screen TVs with cable channels, and private bathrooms. Many rooms beautifully incorporate the building's history, showcasing original period details such as stucco, exposed columns, playful frescoes, or tiled stoves. Bathrooms are smart, well-appointed, and often include indulgent Aesop products. Some guests have noted that due to the historic nature of the building, rooms may have unique quirks like slightly slanted floors.

4. Dining Experience

The Marktgasse Hotel offers a notable dining experience with two on-site restaurants. IGNIV Zürich by Andreas Caminada is a highlight, holding two Michelin stars and providing a "Fine Dining Sharing Experience." For more casual dining, Delish (also known as La Pinseria) serves as the breakfast venue. Guests describe the buffet breakfast at Delish as "superb" and "fantastic," offering a variety of options including yogurt with granola, poached eggs with smoked salmon, and fresh pastries. 6. Location & Accessibility

The Marktgasse Hotel boasts an "excellent" and "perfect" central location in Zurich's historic Old Town (Niederdorf district). It is situated in the heart of the city, close to the magnificent Limmat River, making it ideal for exploring attractions, shopping, and numerous restaurants and bars within a few steps. Key attractions like the Grossmünster (200 meters), Lake Zurich (500 meters), Bahnhofstrasse (400 meters), and Kunsthaus Zurich (400 meters) are easily accessible on foot. Zurich Main Station is about a 10-minute walk away, and the closest tram stop is a mere 50 meters from the hotel. Zurich Airport is 9 km away, with an airport shuttle service available for an extra charge. While central, the hotel's Old Town location means GPS coordinates for car arrivals may not be entirely accurate, and guests are advised to contact the property in advance for parking information. The hotel is also noted as being fully accessible for various needs, including active wheelchairs, e-wheelchairs, strollers, and guests with visual, hearing, or other impairments.

7. Value & Pricing

As a luxury accommodation in Zurich, the Marktgasse Hotel's room prices reflect its premium offerings and central location. Average room prices can start around $500, with typical weeknight rates averaging about $312 and weekend nights around $526. However, rates can start from CHF 234 for a double room, with breakfast at Delish Café costing CHF 19 per person. Despite the higher price point compared to average Zurich hotels, many guests perceive it as a good value due to its exquisite design, personalized service, and central location.

8. Common Complaints

While overwhelmingly positive, some minor points of criticism or common observations include:

  • Historic Quirks: Due to the building's 600-year history, some rooms may have low ceilings or slightly slanted floors, which, while adding character, might be unexpected for some guests.
  • Bathroom Amenities: A few guests have expressed a wish for more comprehensive bathroom amenities, such as vanity kits or shower caps, despite the provision of Aesop products.
  • Room Size: Smaller single rooms have been noted to have limited space for luggage.
  • Extra Beds: There is no capacity for extra beds in the rooms.

I spent 3 days at this hotel. If I have to summarize my experience in one word, it would be “magnificent”. The personnel, location, breakfast, and services are on point. My stay was phenomenal. Do not doubt for a minute to book your stay here.

We stayed at the hotel for a short 6-day vacation and really enjoyed ourselves. The hotel is located in the charming alleys of Zurich’s old town — a central and convenient location. The rooms are spacious and beautifully designed in a modern minimalist style. The heating is excellent, the rooms are clean, the bed is comfortable, and the staff is welcoming. A special thanks to the lovely Paula, who...

Very happy with our stay in this hotel! Rooms were clean, well heated and nicely furnished. Friendly and efficient staff. Excellent location for walking around the old town and right next to a good variety of restaurants.

Excellent hotel with very friendly staff. You typically can't drive here since it is located inside Old Town, but the staff contacted me well ahead of my stay to help us understand how to get an exception so we could drop our bags at the door. They also gave us advice on the best places to park nearby. Beds are amazingly soft and comfortable. I slept so well here. There are not refrigerators i...

Very disappointing hotel. The main issue is the terrible mattresses — extremely soft and sagging. We couldn’t sleep at night, and in the morning our whole bodies were aching. Right after check-in, we contacted the front desk. We were promised that the mattresses would be replaced with firmer ones. The next morning, we were told that all mattresses are the same. We were clearly misled just to make...

Had a lovely experience at this hotel. The location is fantastic and the beds were comfortable. The front desk staff was incredibly friendly and accommodating - we want to give a special shout out to Flanistore for going above and beyond during our stay. The only negative thing is the rooms are a touch on the small side but still workable.
