7. Value & Pricing
The Mandarin Oriental Wangfujing is positioned as a luxury property, and its pricing reflects the exceptional experience it offers. Room rates typically exceed $500 per night, ranging from approximately $530 to $925. This is significantly higher than the average hotel room in Beijing, which usually falls between $76 and $100.
Many guests consider the hotel pricey but ultimately "worth it," citing the unparalleled level of luxury, exquisite amenities, and world-class service as justification for the premium cost. For travelers who prioritize comfort, exclusivity, and exceptional experiences, the Mandarin Oriental Wangfujing is seen as a distinguished and opulent retreat well worth the investment. However, continental breakfast and in-room wireless internet incur additional fees.
8. Common Complaints
While overwhelmingly positive, some minor criticisms have been noted:
- Minor Room Issues: Isolated incidents included a slight odor from a bathroom, a powder room without AC and a slamming door, and an overly sensitive smart toilet.
- Hotel Size/Common Areas: Some guests found the overall footprint of the hotel, particularly common areas and the lobby, to be smaller or more cramped than expected for a full-scale luxury hotel, feeling more akin to a boutique property due to its location within a mall.
- Views: One reviewer found the Forbidden City view from the outdoor terrace to be underwhelming and not high enough for a true "bird's-eye view."
- Dining Perceptions: As mentioned, some felt the breakfast buffet variety was lacking, and MO Bar drinks were overpriced and uninspiring.
- Service Nuances: A guest reported being called on their personal phone despite a "do not disturb" request. Another noted a "new hotel smell" and a minor check-in hiccup where a wrong greeting card was placed in their room. One specific complaint mentioned hard beds and the hotel's reluctance to provide extra toiletries due to "saving costs," which was seen as inconsistent with the hotel's price point.
- Additional Costs: Both continental breakfast and in-room wireless internet come with an extra fee.
Despite these minor points, the Mandarin Oriental Wangfujing consistently delivers a highly praised and memorable luxury experience in Beijing.

The best property I have stayed in and my new favorite Mandarin Oriental globally. Highlights: The View: An uninterrupted, breathtaking view of the Forbidden City from the terrace and our bedroom. The Bar: Bar Manager Quantin has created an atmospheric, quirky space. The Mongolian yurts on the terrace for shisha (Black Russian tobacco) and cigars are a stroke of genius. The Service: Marvin and...

This hotel provides a great experience and exceptional services. All the staff, from the doorman and reception to the cleaners, have performed their duties very well, offering professional service and great hospitality, as expected from a hotel of this caliber. In particular, Ms. Shao and her team, who decorated the room, did an excellent job. The room is lovely, with partial views of the Forbidde...

Mo bar (rooftop) is a total fail. Service is super slow, we waited 45min for our cocktails and on the end the cocktail was full of ice, maybe 80ml in total, looked like a cheap mixed drink from a normal bar. Not worth the price nor the time.

Overpriced for the service. We had a really bad smell in the room, eventually they changed the room when the smell happened again. They apologised with an afternoon tea for two when we were three… Most of the staff were nice apart from one person from the restaurant that was decently painful, the manager eventually sorted it out. Regarding the staff, it was very surprising to see how many people c...

Excellent hotel in an excellent location. Walking distance from The Forbidden City and Tiananmen Square. The food was great and the staff very accommodating. Osgood, the Chief Concierge, was particularly helpful with arranging transportation and giving all around good advice. Spa had good services as well. I hope to return.
