Expert Review: Longueville Manor

Longueville Manor in Jersey, United Kingdom, stands as a testament to exquisite hospitality and luxurious comfort, consistently earning high praise from guests. As a Michelin Key One-Key property, it is recognized for offering a very special stay with a distinct character, notable service, and a memorable experience.

Overall Rating & Sentiment

Longueville Manor enjoys an overwhelmingly positive reputation, frequently described as a "home-from-home luxury" and a "classy, sumptuous, addictive and incredibly relaxing" retreat. The hotel holds prestigious accolades, including an AA 5 Red Star rating and 3 Rosettes for its culinary excellence. Guests consistently rate it highly, with a 5/5 rating on TripAdvisor being common. The overall sentiment is one of a serene, indulgent, and exceptionally well-managed establishment.

Key Highlights

Guests are particularly charmed by the hotel's seamless blend of historic grandeur and relaxed ambience.

  • Service: The genuinely warm, attentive, and discreetly upbeat staff are a recurring highlight, contributing significantly to the "home-from-home" feeling.
  • Location & Design: The 14th-century manor house is nestled within 18 acres of peaceful private woodland, featuring beautiful gardens and a tranquil lake, creating a fairytale-like setting. The architecture showcases its rich past with features like a 14th-century dining room and ancient panelling.
  • Amenities: Longueville Manor offers a comprehensive array of facilities, including a heated outdoor swimming pool, a mini-spa with two treatment rooms and a spa pool, a gym, tennis court, croquet lawn, and jogging trails. It also boasts a spectacular 5,000-bottle wine cellar and even a private yacht for charter.

Room Quality

The 29 individually decorated rooms and suites exude an English country house charm, featuring tranquil neutral colors, lightly patterned wallpaper, and a thoughtful mix of traditional and contemporary furnishings. Guests appreciate the comfort, with amenities such as oversized bathtubs, spacious walk-in showers, comfortable armchairs, fresh fruit, flowers, mineral water, and luxurious toiletries (including Gaia natural skincare and British REN products). Rooms are noted for being exceptionally quiet, offering a peaceful escape from any urban bustle. While generally luxurious and spacious, some older reviews have noted rooms to be "a little old-fashioned in some ways" but still well-appointed.

Dining Experience

The dining experience at Longueville Manor is a significant draw, holding 3 AA Rosettes for its exceptional cuisine. Executive Head Chef Andrew Baird's philosophy centers on simplicity and flavor, showcasing the finest local Jersey produce and ingredients harvested from the manor's own Victorian kitchen garden.

  • Restaurants: There are two distinct dining rooms: the charming 15th-century Oak Room with historic oak panelling, and the brighter, more contemporary Garden Room. Alfresco dining on the poolside terrace is available during summer.
  • Menu Highlights: Dishes are creative and boast wonderful textures, with examples including a quail Scotch egg with tarragon, black fig, and Pata Negra, and line-caught red mullet with grilled sardines and cuttlefish risotto. The cheese trolley is of "legendary proportions" with over 30 offerings.
  • Wine Cellar: The hotel is home to an impressive, state-of-the-art wine cellar housing over 5,000 bottles, including rare selections, complemented by knowledgeable sommeliers.
  • Breakfast & Afternoon Tea: A substantial buffet breakfast featuring fresh in-house bakery products, Jersey milk, butter, and yogurt, alongside traditional hot options, is a highlight. Indulgent afternoon teas with homemade cakes and fresh sandwiches are also highly recommended. Children's menus are readily available.

Service & Staff

The service at Longueville Manor is consistently praised as exceptional. Staff are described as attentive, friendly, and genuinely warm, creating a welcoming and personal atmosphere. A remarkable aspect is the long tenure of many team members, including a head chef for 35 years, a head housekeeper for 40 years, and a manager for 15 years, which contributes to the consistent quality and "family" feel of the establishment.

Location & Accessibility

Longueville Manor is situated just outside St Helier, Jersey's capital, set amidst 18 acres of private woodland. While not within immediate walking distance of St Helier's main area (approximately a 25-minute walk), it's a short 7-minute drive or a 10-minute bus ride, with a bus stop just 3 minutes away. The hotel's secluded setting provides a sense of being transported to another world. Local attractions such as Howard Davis Park and St Helier Beach are nearby, approximately 1 mile to 1.4 km away. Jersey Airport is about 11 km away.

Value & Pricing

As a luxury 5-star property with Michelin Key recognition and AA 5 Red Stars, Longueville Manor operates at a premium price point. While specific price ranges vary, reviews often acknowledge that it is "not cheap." However, the overwhelming sentiment from guests is that the exceptional experience, quality of service, exquisite dining, and luxurious amenities justify the cost, making it a worthwhile indulgence.

Common Complaints

While Longueville Manor consistently receives extremely high praise, common complaints are notably scarce. Minor criticisms, such as some rooms being described as "a little old-fashioned in some ways" by an older review, occasionally surface. Another older review briefly mentioned a minor "luggage handling thing." However, there are no recurring or significant issues reported, reflecting the hotel's commitment to delivering an outstanding guest experience. In general, common luxury hotel complaints can include pricing, rude staff, and noise, but these are not specifically attributed to Longueville Manor in the provided information.

We enjoyed a wonderful market menu lunch today - currently enjoying tea in the garden for as long as we like before heading to the airport. Loved the very old cat sunning himself quietly in the garden. Lovely staff, lovely food, lovely location. I’d definitely return and would consider staying here.

Our family recently stayed in both the cottage and rooms here, and it was incredible. The service was exceptionally attentive - staff were always on hand to ensure we had everything we needed. Breakfast and lunch were also amazing. The hotel and its grounds are lovely and peaceful, making it the perfect place to unwind. Highly recommended for families or anyone seeking a relaxing break.

A charming and very special hotel. The service is exceptionally good. All the staff are attentive but Luca the head of F and B is extra ordinary. He manages by seeing everything and wanders around spreading his magic positiveness. Somehow Luca makes everyone feel extra special. We witnessed an 18th birthday dinner that actually made us emotional as it was handled so brilliantly. His talent ne...

NOTE THIS IS A REVIEW OF THE LUNCH ONLY. THIS REVIEW DOES NOT CONCERN THE LODGINGS AT THE ESTABLISHMENT, NOR THE AMENITIES I was kindly invited to attend lunch for the celebration of a cousins wedding. We were sat poolside in the lush green surroundings of Loungeville manor. Battling the wasps and other creepy crawler that come with the outdoor dining experience, the waiters kept us well hydrate...

For me, Longueville Manor feels a bit like coming home❣️ I’ve travelled a lot, but this place is truly magical — it always has that something extra. An amazing experience, as always. The food is excellent. Luca & Chef Andrew, together with their teams, create such a warm and welcoming atmosphere — you truly feel cared for, and when you leave… you already can’t wait to come back. The bar staff, res...
