Expert Review: Langshott Manor Hotel
Langshott Manor Hotel, a Michelin Key Selected property in Surrey, United Kingdom, consistently receives high praise for its enchanting historic ambiance, exceptional service, and culinary excellence.
Overall Rating & Sentiment
Langshott Manor Hotel is largely considered a "hidden gem" or an "absolute gem," with guests frequently describing their stays as wonderful and perfect. It boasts high guest scores, including 8.4 overall, with specific ratings of 9.2 for staff, 9.0 for comfort, and 8.8 for cleanliness. The general sentiment is overwhelmingly positive, with many guests expressing a desire to return.
Key Highlights
Guests consistently rave about the hotel's characterful Elizabethan manor house, set within three acres of beautifully manicured gardens, complete with an ancient moat. The "absolutely fantastic staff" and their warm, welcoming, and attentive nature are frequently highlighted as a major asset. Other beloved aspects include the comfortable beds, the peaceful and tranquil atmosphere, and the award-winning dining experience. Its convenient proximity to Gatwick Airport, without being under the flight path, makes it a popular choice for pre- or post-flight stays.
Room Quality
The 22 individually styled bedrooms and suites are spread across the main Manor House and various mews buildings (Garden Mews, Racing Mews, Moat Mews, and the Royal Lodge). Rooms are noted for their luxe touches, featuring comfortable, often king-sized beds with crisp Egyptian cotton linen and plush pillows, along with fluffy towels and TempleSpa toiletries in the bathrooms. While all rooms offer amenities like flat-screen TVs and free Wi-Fi, those in the main house are particularly sought after for their character, including original features like beamed ceilings, mullioned windows, and deep freestanding bathtubs in Historic Named Suites. Some rooms also offer four-poster beds or private patios.
Dining Experience
Langshott Manor's Mulberry Restaurant is a significant draw, holding a prestigious 2 AA Rosettes for culinary excellence. The restaurant specializes in modern European cuisine, emphasizing the finest locally sourced ingredients. Guests commend the high quality of dinner, with options like a seven-course tasting menu and a focus on beautiful, tasty dishes. Breakfast, including full English and vegetarian options, is also well-regarded. Additionally, the hotel offers a popular afternoon tea served in the lounges or on the terraces, and a traditional Sunday roast. A more casual lounge menu is also available.
Service & Staff
The service at Langshott Manor is consistently lauded as outstanding. Guests frequently use terms such as "exceptional," "absolutely fantastic," "warm and welcoming," "amazing," "helpful," "polite and attentive" to describe the staff. Individual staff members, like Emma at reception and Dan, the General Manager, have received personal commendations for their excellent service. The staff's accommodating nature, even for late arrivals or special occasions like anniversaries, contributes significantly to guest satisfaction.
Location & Accessibility
Tucked away down a quiet country lane just outside Horley, Langshott Manor offers a glorious oasis of calm and tranquility despite its initial proximity to suburbia. It is exceptionally convenient for travelers, being only an 8-10 minute drive from Gatwick Airport, crucially not under the flight path. For those looking to explore further, central London is accessible within 30 minutes by train or less than an hour's drive. The hotel provides complimentary private parking and free Wi-Fi in all areas.
Value & Pricing
Guests generally perceive Langshott Manor as offering good value for its luxurious experience and high level of service. Room rates typically start from around £169. Special packages like the "Lovely Langshott Escape," which includes dinner, bed, breakfast, welcome fizz, and high tea, start from £249. "Park and stay" options for those flying from Gatwick are available from £210 for a cozy room.
Common Complaints
While overwhelmingly positive, some minor criticisms have been noted. One guest mentioned that a "luxury room" in a newer outbuilding lacked the character of rooms found in the main manor house, suggesting a preference for requesting a room in the historic main building for a more authentic experience. Another past review noted the dining room being chilly during a tasting menu, which slightly impacted the experience.

Great experience at this hotel. Stayed here for the first time for an overnight stay. Check in was fine, and we got showed personally to our room which was a garden suite. The room and features were explained and it was a good start. We didn't eat in the restaurant which was a two AA rosette but had food from the bar. The food was very good along with the drinks all priced at an average price for ...

We were fortunate enough to have our Christmas Party at the Hotel. I was organising the event and the Events team made everything easy for me. From start to finish the event was faultless. The food was yummy! The venue was stunning and very festive. The staff were so warm, friendly, accommodating and professional. It was so good all our staff would like to return next year. Thank you to the whol...

We booked your room for my mother's 90th birthday celebrations on Sunday 28th Dec. There were 25 of us and the staff did a wonderful job of catering to all our needs and especially went out of their way to make sure this was a memorable occasion, from the food, to the ambience not to mention the wonderful house. I was especially impressed that the essence and history have been sympathetically p...

The staff are the nicest people I have ever met. Absolutely lovely five stars all the way. The end is adorable and charming, and so refreshing compared to all of these basic boring modern hotels. I would simply recommend some written instructions on Wi-Fi & how to turn down the heat in the room. And some soft pillows for sleeping. But a wonderful place.

Booked Sunday lunch for 2 people on 15th February. I'm not usually critical, but our experience was way below what we expected. Service was very poor, the waitress clearly didn't want to be there. There were only 2 other couples in the dining room. Water was offered and brought to the table, but not poured. We had to ask for alcoholic drinks (no drinks menu was shown to us). No offer of bread with...

Due to a delay of an hour in paying the room fee, I missed my flight and had to spend over £ 500 to reschedule. This resulted in significant financial losses for me. The hotel was supposed to deduct the deposit directly from my credit card when I checked out, but it took me over an hour to do so. How should I be held responsible for my financial losses. This journey should have been easy, but it c...
