The Kimpton Hotel Monaco Denver, a distinguished Michelin Key Selected property, consistently receives high praise for its unique blend of historic charm, stylish design, and exceptional service in the heart of downtown Denver.

1. Overall Rating & Sentiment

The general consensus for Kimpton Hotel Monaco Denver is overwhelmingly positive, often earning excellent ratings from guests. Reviews frequently highlight a delightful and luxurious experience, with one detailed assessment giving it a 7.75 out of 10. The hotel is recommended for a variety of travelers, including singles, couples, out-of-town visitors, and business travelers.

2. Key Highlights

Guests consistently love the hotel's prime downtown location, its distinctive and unique style, and the genuinely friendly and attentive staff. Other significant highlights include:

  • Design & Ambiance: Housed in a historic 1917 Railway Exchange Building, the hotel offers a sleek, sophisticated, and contemporary style with an urban flair, featuring a "living room" lobby that creates a welcoming ambiance. The decor incorporates fun pops of color, stunning wallpaper, and a subtle Western theme.
  • Amenities: The hotel offers a range of complimentary perks, including a nightly wine social hour, complimentary coffee and tea, and loaner bikes for exploring the city. It's also notably pet-friendly, providing pet beds and bowls upon request. A health club is available on-site.
  • Michelin Key Selection: The Michelin Guide recognizes hotels based on five criteria: architecture and interior design, quality and consistency of service, overall personality and character, value for the price, and a significant contribution to the neighborhood or setting. The Kimpton Hotel Monaco Denver's positive guest feedback aligns well with these criteria.

3. Room Quality

The rooms at Kimpton Hotel Monaco Denver are frequently described as stylish, spacious, comfortable, and elegantly decorated. They feature a thoughtful design with bold wallpaper, striking metallic accents, soothing blues and greens, leather details, and whimsical touches, creating an elevated artsy vibe. Many rooms offer large windows that allow for ample natural light. Guests particularly appreciate the comfortable beds with pillowtop mattresses and Frette Italian sheets, ensuring a restful sleep. While generally well-maintained, some older reviews have noted minor cosmetic issues such as peeling wallpaper or loose fixtures in bathrooms. The hotel underwent a $6 million renovation in 2018, updating all 189 guest rooms.

4. Dining Experience

Panzano, the hotel's on-site Northern Italian restaurant, is a major highlight, consistently praised as superb. It's known for its authentic cuisine, handcrafted cocktails, and lively atmosphere, and has received numerous accolades including the AAA Four Diamond Award. The breakfast at Panzano is frequently described as "amazing" and "superb," often exceeding guest expectations. Dinner options are also highly regarded, with dishes like Cozze (mussels) and pasta dishes such as Ragu Di Angello and Ricotta Ravioli receiving positive mentions.

  • Easily accessible by various public transportation options, including bus, light rail, and train, with several stops nearby. Denver International Airport is approximately a 36-minute drive away.

7. Value & Pricing

While offering a luxurious experience, the Kimpton Hotel Monaco Denver presents a reasonable value for its offerings. Average nightly room prices are around $357, which is higher than Denver's average hotel room price of $214, but prices can start as low as $128 in the low season (November). A "Guest Amenities Fee" (previously a "resort fee") of approximately $23-$30 per night is applied, which includes a $10 credit at Panzano, a nightly "nightcap beverage offering," bottled water upon request, and discounts at local businesses. Valet parking is available but comes with a significant additional cost, around $59 per night.

8. Common Complaints

While guest satisfaction is generally high, some recurring issues or criticisms have been noted:

  • Room Condition: Despite renovations, some older reviews mention minor cosmetic wear and tear in rooms, such as peeling wallpaper or loose bathroom fixtures.
  • Fees: The "Guest Amenities Fee" and the high cost of valet parking are occasionally viewed as negatives by guests.
  • Inconsistent Service (Limited instances): One recent review mentioned an "animal smell in the front lobby," an elevator outage, and temperature issues in the room, which the general manager acknowledged and stated were being addressed. An older review also noted that breakfast was not available until after 8 AM on weekends, which could be inconvenient for early risers.

Hotel was okay where room spacious and beds comfortable. Also there was two happy hours per day. Attendants were polite and provided good service. However, I was assigned a room that had a view of a parking garage. I desire sunlight but had to keep them closed to prevent people from looking into my room. ARGH. . Based on another client review management response, you may be placed in a room wi...

Incredible hotel in the heart of downtown Denver! Location is great and tons of things are walkable which I prefer in weekend visits. The breakfast was amazing, super great service and very delicious and well prepared dishes. Having it be complimentary as a diamond IHG member almost feels too good to be true. We didn’t try the restaurant for lunch or dinner but I bet it would be a very nice exp...

This is our 2nd stay at a Kimpton hotel (love their dog-friendliness which is the best I've found anywhere, even on BringFido, which is who I booked through) after a great experience in one of their SoCal properties. The Denver staff were friendly, responsive and helpful throughout our stay, no doubt, and they did their best to accommodate us when we checked in because the elevator had broken down...

We recently booked 2 rooms here for 3 nights, one room for my mom and one for my husband and myself. We got an extremely low rate on the rooms, so that made this place an excellent deal. The number one complaint with this hotel is the price of the parking, which is over $60/night. Two of the valet parkers were great and I felt sorry for them having so few cars to park. One of the valet parkers, ...

The hotel has been beautifully renovated but a few things I noticed about our room: 1. Dimmer switches did not work and electrical seemed outdated and worn. 2. Outdated plumbing—old toilet that barely flushed, shower floor panel was warped, and shower doors wouldn’t stay closed. 3. In-room phone was old, dirty, and did not work. 4. The close-up face mirror on the cantilever in the bathroom was...

I booked this hotel because I love the kimpton brand which I consider high quality and unique. This stay left us disappointed however as the hotel was freezing cold and the elevator wasn't working which required us to take the staff/ utility elevator. Also, we rented a suite and were frustrated to see that the only bathroom was inside the bedroom which kind of negated the benefit of the suite.
