Expert Review: InterContinental Rome Ambasciatori Palace
InterContinental Rome Ambasciatori Palace: A Michelin Key Selected Blend of Historic Glamour and Modern Luxury
The InterContinental Rome Ambasciatori Palace, a Michelin Key Selected property, consistently earns high praise for its impeccable service, luxurious design, and prime location, offering guests a refined "La Dolce Vita" experience in the heart of Rome.
1. Overall Rating & Sentiment
The general consensus among guests is overwhelmingly positive, with many describing their stay as "exceptional" and "wonderful." The hotel is often lauded as one of the best in Rome, noted for its cleanliness, comfort, and outstanding staff. Guests appreciate the blend of modern amenities with the historic charm of the early 20th-century building.
2. Key Highlights
Guests consistently praise several aspects of the InterContinental Rome Ambasciatori Palace:
- Service & Staff: The staff is frequently highlighted as "exceptionally helpful and friendly," "professional," and "attentive." Many guests note the concierge team as outstanding in assisting with reservations and tours.
- Location: Situated on the chic Via Veneto, the hotel's location is a significant draw, offering easy walking access to major attractions like the Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain, and Villa Borghese. It's considered central yet slightly removed from the busiest tourist areas, providing a more peaceful atmosphere.
- Design & Ambiance: The hotel, set in a neo-Renaissance palace, blends original architectural details with fresh, modern interiors. The lobby, with its custom chandeliers and red marble, exudes classic refinement.
- Amenities: Highlights include Charlie's Rooftop Bar, offering panoramic city views and evening cocktails, and a spa with body treatments, facials, and massages, alongside a 24-hour fitness center. The hotel also offers 24-hour room service and complimentary Wi-Fi.
3. Room Quality
Rooms and suites are described as luxurious, elegant, and comfortable, featuring precious fabrics and parquet floors. Many rooms boast a soothing color palette of creams with pops of blue, leather-crafted headboards, and Italian-mod furniture. Bathrooms are a standout feature, often spacious with marble and gold inlay, oversized robes, and enormous walk-in waterfall showers, some with bidets and Byredo amenities. Some premium rooms also offer private balconies overlooking the city's rooftops. Guests frequently comment on the cleanliness and comfort of the beds, with twice-daily housekeeping being the norm.
4. Dining Experience
The hotel features several dining options:
- VICI Bistrot & Ristorante / Scarpetta NYC: This restaurant serves Italian cuisine, with some descriptions noting it as an "Italian and New York City food and wine traditions mingle" concept. Dinner service is praised for excellent food, including the signature Scarpetta pasta, and sophisticated service.
- Breakfast: The buffet breakfast, available for a fee, includes homemade cakes, pastries, Italian coffee, fresh-squeezed juices, a salad bar, and hot food options like eggs, bacon, and sausage, often considered a solid value. However, some guests have found the buffet hot food to be disappointing and service inconsistent in the mornings.
- Anita Lounge & Bar: An inviting and elegant space for drinks and snacks.
- Charlie's Rooftop Bar: Offers evening cocktails with city views and a lively atmosphere with a DJ.
5. Service & Staff
The service is consistently praised as professional, friendly, and highly attentive without being overbearing. Guests highlight the helpfulness of the front desk, concierge, housekeeping, and doormen. Many instances of staff going above and beyond, such as offering upgrades for special occasions, are mentioned.
6. Location & Accessibility
The hotel's location on Via Veneto is highly advantageous. It's approximately a 10-minute walk from the Trevi Fountain and Spanish Steps. The Barberini-Fontana di Trevi Metro station is only 5 minutes away, providing direct links to attractions like the Vatican Museums and Termini Station. Villa Borghese park is also a 5-minute walk away. While central, its position on Via Veneto offers a sense of elegance and a slightly less chaotic experience than areas directly in the city center.
7. Value & Pricing
The InterContinental Rome Ambasciatori Palace is considered a luxury option, and room rates are accordingly premium, often starting from around €700 per night. However, some guests perceive it as a more affordable luxury option compared to other nearby high-end hotels, especially if booking through loyalty programs or taking advantage of benefits like upgrades and complimentary breakfast for IHG status holders. Prices can fluctuate seasonally, with March often being the cheapest month and October the most expensive.
8. Common Complaints
While overwhelmingly positive, some minor recurring issues have been noted:
- Breakfast Quality/Service: A few guests have expressed disappointment with the hot buffet food and occasional slow service during breakfast.
- Room Amenities: Some rooms may not include bathtubs due to structural limitations in the historic building. A lack of a full-length mirror in some rooms has also been mentioned.
- Noise: One review noted a room on the first floor being noisy.
- Tech Glitches: A few minor tech glitches in rooms have been reported.
- Authenticity: One review suggested the guest profile skews heavily American, which might make the atmosphere feel less authentically local to some travelers.

A very new property on the iconic Via Veneto. The design is elegant, modern, and clean—a nice departure from the more "heavy" traditional luxury found elsewhere in Rome. Service & The "Tip" Policy: Service was above average for Europe. At checkout, the hotel requested a general tip for the staff. While I haven’t seen this specific approach before, I’d rather be asked honestly for a tip than deal ...

Highly recommend! I travel often for work and stay in many hotels. This hotel stands out in every way. The service was excellent, all the staff were wonderful, always friendly and helpful. Beautiful, thoughtfully designed and impeccably clean room. Easy access to public transportation. Many shops and restaurants within easy walking distance. Our stay at InterContinental Rome Ambasciatori Palace from December 28 to December 31 was, without question, the standout experience of our entire 31-day journey through Europe. We stayed at several InterContinental properties along the way, and while each had its strengths, IC Rome truly set the gold standard for service, care, and genuine hospitality. The way this team treats every guest is unm...

Valerio at the front who helped us with our bags, getting taxi's for us was incredibly helpful with service but also recommendations! Location is incredibly safe, but for me next time I'll probably stay in somewhere closer to all the museums and attractions. Everything is entirely walkable but always seems to be a solid 20 mins from anywhere I want to be. The rooftop hotel "Charlie's" is amazing...
