Expert Review: Hotel Pucic Palace

Hotel Pucic Palace, Dubrovnik: A Michelin Key Selected Gem in the Heart of the Old Town

Hotel Pucic Palace, a distinguished Michelin Key Selected property, consistently earns high praise for its exceptional location, impeccable service, and unique blend of historic charm with modern luxury. Housed within an 18th-century Baroque aristocrat's mansion, this boutique hotel offers an unforgettable stay in Dubrovnik's enchanting Old Town.

1. Overall Rating & Sentiment

The general consensus for Hotel Pucic Palace is overwhelmingly positive, with guests frequently rating it as "Superb" (9.1 out of 10 based on 243 reviews). Reviewers often describe their experiences using words like "amazing," "delightful," "exceptional," "stunning," and "perfect," reflecting a high level of guest satisfaction.

2. Key Highlights

Guests consistently laud several aspects of The Pucic Palace:

  • Service: The staff receives extensive commendation for being delightful, helpful, exceptional, and going "above and beyond" to ensure a pleasant stay. Many guests felt the staff were like "friends" due to their warm and hospitable nature.
  • Location: Situated directly on Gundulic Square, the hotel boasts an "amazing" and "perfect" location in the heart of Dubrovnik's Old Town. It offers easy access to major attractions within minutes, including the city gates, Stradun, Dubrovnik Cathedral, and the Old Town Harbor.
  • Design: The hotel's design is a significant draw, showcasing a beautifully restored Baroque mansion with ornate stone facades, wooden-beamed ceilings, wrought-iron balustrades, and lustrous green marble. Corridors are adorned with antiquities and artworks, lending a sense of refined historic elegance.
  • Amenities: Complimentary offerings such as a generous and delicious breakfast, free in-room amenities like magnesium water, coffee, and tea, and free WiFi are frequently highlighted. Luxurious touches include freestanding tubs and Bulgari products in the bathrooms.

3. Room Quality

The 19 elegantly furnished rooms and suites at The Pucic Palace are individually named after Croatian writers or artists, offering a unique touch. They are air-conditioned and feature modern comforts such as flat-screen TVs, minibars, and safes. Guests appreciate the "comfortable and clean" rooms, with many noting their spaciousness and soundproofing. Bathrooms are a particular highlight, often featuring marble, separate bathtubs, and showers, along with bathrobes, slippers, and premium toiletries. Some rooms also offer balconies and terraces, and many boast Tempur-Pedic beds and blackout drapes for restful sleep. The decor blends traditional style with contemporary functionality, incorporating elements like exposed stone walls.

4. Dining Experience

Dining at The Pucic Palace is a delightful experience. A "generous and delicious" cooked-to-order à la carte breakfast is served daily, with guests consistently praising its quality and variety. The hotel features two on-site restaurants: Restaurant Lucijan, facing Gundulić Square, offers local and international delicacies for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Restaurant Magdalena provides Mediterranean cuisine on an alfresco terrace, creating a tranquil dining atmosphere. A Parisian-style café and a "swanky" leather-clad wine bar serving highly regarded Croatian wines are also available.

5. Service & Staff

The service at Hotel Pucic Palace is consistently rated as outstanding. Guests frequently commend the staff for being "delightful, helpful, and exceptional," often describing them as going "above and beyond" to assist with requests. The "very nice and hospitable" staff are known for their accommodating nature, making guests feel like friends. The porter service, which helps guests navigate the pedestrian-only Old Town with their luggage, is particularly appreciated as "convenient and appreciated."

6. Location & Accessibility

The Pucic Palace boasts an "unbeatable" location on Gundulic Square, right in the heart of Dubrovnik's Old Town. This prime position places guests just steps away from iconic attractions such as the Stradun, Dubrovnik Cathedral, the Walls of Dubrovnik, and the Old Town Harbor. The hotel is within a few minutes' walk of both main city gates (Pile and Ploce Gates). As the Old Town is pedestrianized, the hotel advises guests arriving by car to contact them in advance for parking instructions and luggage transfer assistance. An airport shuttle service is available for an additional charge.

7. Value & Pricing

While The Pucic Palace is a luxury 5-star property, many guests consider it to offer "good value" for the experience, especially given its prime location. Prices fluctuate seasonally; February is typically the cheapest month with an average 63% price drop, while June is the most expensive with an average 72% price rise. As of late January 2026, a one-night stay for two adults in late February 2026 started from approximately $183.21. Average weeknight prices are around $264, increasing to about $500 for weekend nights. Some reviews acknowledge that rooms might seem expensive for their size, but this is often justified by the unparalleled central location. A city tax is applied per person, per night.

8. Common Complaints

While reviews are overwhelmingly positive, a few minor recurring issues have been noted:

  • Some guests have experienced inconvenience due to a broken lift.
  • One review mentioned that breakfast could benefit from more variety and faster service.
  • Being in the vibrant Old Town, guests might experience some noise from nearby bars, restaurants, and church bells in the evenings, though many found this to be part of the authentic "old town experience" rather than a disturbance.
  • The hotel does not feature spa facilities.
  • Due to its location within the city walls, lower floor rooms may lack sea views.
  • There is no on-site parking, and the closest parking is located outside the car-free city walls, requiring coordination with the hotel for luggage.

Location is great - right in middle of the old town. However, that's it's downside as well - you can't park car near or even get close to it with car, so you need to carry your luggage for 10+ minutes. Hotel is in 'old palace' style - so not modern. It's not really suitable for wheelchair / baby strollers, since it has couple of steps in entrance, before the elevator, in front of restsurant. Bre...

We spent three nights in this beautiful hotel. Excellent service from the very first moment. I especially want to highlight the receptionist Harold for their kindness, helpful attitude, and friendly manner. It truly makes a difference when someone welcomes people with such a willingness to assist.

We stayed at the Pucic Palace for 4-days in September. The location is perfect in the middle of Dubrovnik. The hotel is charming, well maintained, and luxurious. The staff was friendly, funny, and charming. Phillip, who works in the bar and restaurant was outstanding. We had a mix up on dinner reservations and he found a way to get us/make us a table. Great guy.

This is a 3 star hotel. We travel frequently and seeing a 5 star rating leads most to have very high expectations. This hotel was fine. Had it been legitimately rated and priced accordingly. We would give it a 3 maybe 3.5 star and would price it at about $350 per night. We paid over $1000 euro a night. Things that are typical for 5 Star was not present - no pool or spa, flooding showers (extreme),...

This hotel is perfect right in the centre of the old town. It has the beautiful old charm of hotel of its period. The bathroom could do with a bit of tlc in parts. Wonderful toiletries, slippers, robes. Complementary water, coffee, tea and nuts. The staff were wonderful they couldn't do enough for you. We had two very early start day trips and they prepared a lovely breakfast bag. Breakfast was inc...

Wow, what a treat to have stayed at The Pucic Palace! Where do I start - the staff were SO incredibly kind, patient, and knowledgable. We ended up knowing some of the staff by name and would be happy to chat with them during our 3-night stay. They took the time to show us parts of the city on our walk in, provide us with a map, and walk us through the amenities in our room. The hotel itself is...
