The attentive and professional service provided by the dedicated staff is a recurring highlight, often making guests feel recognized and appreciated. The property's cleanliness and exceptional facilities, including both indoor and outdoor pools, also receive strong positive remarks. The design and architecture, preserving the 13th-century heritage while offering modern comfort, contribute to the hotel's charm.
3. Room Quality

Many rooms, particularly Prestige rooms and suites, offer outstanding views of the Chianti valley or the hotel's vineyards. Bathrooms are generally described as having a traditional style with luxurious amenities and plush towels, with many rooms having walk-in showers.
4. Dining Experience
The dining experience at Hotel Le Fontanelle is highly praised. The hotel's main restaurant, La Colonna, named for an original stone column, serves delicious Tuscan cuisine with seasonal menus crafted by Executive Chef Daniele Canella. Dining on the Belvedere Terrace offers spectacular views of the rolling Chianti valleys. Breakfast is a highlight, often described as one of the best experiences, served à la carte with varied sweet and savory options, fresh breads, cakes, high-quality coffee, and fresh juices. Guests can also enjoy light lunches at the covered gazebo by the pool. The estate also boasts its own Chianti Classico label wine. Additionally, the nearby Club House, part of the Fontanelle Estate, features Il Visibilio, a Michelin-starred restaurant offering a blind tasting menu, and Osteria Il Tuscanico for authentic classic cuisine.

While feeling like "the middle of nowhere," it is conveniently located about 20 minutes from the picturesque city of Siena. Florence is approximately an hour's drive away. The hotel is a perfect hub for exploring Tuscany, with activities like wine tasting, horseback riding, and visiting nearby towns readily available or organizable by the concierge. 7. Value & Pricing
Hotel Le Fontanelle is considered a luxury property, with average weeknight prices around $1,024 and weekend nights around $1,174. While the prices are at a luxury level, many guests feel it offers excellent value for money given the exceptional service, facilities, and overall experience, making it one of the best in the area. April is noted as the cheapest month to stay, with September being the most expensive.
8. Common Complaints
While overwhelmingly positive, some minor criticisms have been noted by guests. These include occasional minor issues with pool temperature and certain bathroom amenities. One review mentioned that main courses at La Colonna sometimes lacked a classic side dish, which felt unusual given the price point, though the portions were not small. Another reviewer felt that some starters at La Colonna, while tasty, didn't evoke a strong "Tuscan" feeling.

Unfortunately, this hotel was a miss, especially for the price. Rooms are very small and basic, even when upgraded. The pool loses sun early in the day due to the hills. Ducho, the driver, is a bright spot - he was incredibly helpful and a great conversationalist! Restaurant was great as well. The sister property (Club House) is MUCH better and a gem (we stayed at both).
